@skiido well the joy of having critical fans is the fact that they will never be satisfied with new music. They could make a new thrash metal only album and people still would still say it sucks and thats a fact.
@skiiddo Unfortunately, due to modern technology, that's not going to happen. Tone wise, I fucking love the playing and tones (guitar, drum, bass) on Kill 'Em All and Death Magnetic, Metallica is Metallica, be them heavy or melodic, it's just plain great fucking music.
Why does everyone dis death magnetic? It has some great songs for people who aren't ignorant. All nightmare long, the unforgiven 3, the day that never comes. I love those songs
@deceasemortician I don't care if you don't like the album, it IS a return to this form of music. It has thrashy songs, heavy songs, and in between songs, just like RTL and MOP
Metallica died somewhere between ajfa and the black album, I blame Bob Rock and hate him for it. But I like thinking about it that way, I only consider their first 4 albums to be Metallica albums, that way they can never release a bad album. The real Metallica were gods.
@rickbelmont i'm not sure what you mean by that...there are several 5-6 min songs on lightning...I'm talking mid to high 6s too...and call of the ktulu is well over 8 minutes. if you really like the songs it don't matter if they're 12 minutes honestly...like when I listen to puppets I'm not like damn this song is long...i'm like damn this song FUCKING ROCKS lol. you don't even notice it's long...because if their genious song-writing...most metallica fans will agree puppets is best...even them
@midnight347 Yes you right for master of puppets, but it was more for the songs from St Anger and Death Magnetic, too long and useless (my opinion). But i can easily listen to their longest song many time (the Mercyful Fate medley in Garage Inc). Their Best album since the Black Album^^
@rickbelmont It's always hard to decide for me man, Ride The Lightning is just flat out fucking AMAZING, but I'll prefer their much lengthy songs like Disposable Heroes on Master as well. So it's a tie. lmao!
@CliffBurtonEmAll. For me i feel like Puppets is their greatest albumjust because the composition of the songs is just amazing and the album brings out all of the greatest qualities of all four members. Although i feel Puppets is their greatest, I still feel that Lightning was their strongest and most solid album. That albums is just great all the way through and that is why it is my favorite album.
if you really listen to Death Magnetic (for those of you who don't like it because it's "new metallica") and sit back and close your eyes and picture them playing the songs with their long hair back in about 88-93 with james old voice (which you can actually hear some on the new album) you will appreciate the greatness of the album so much more...if it would have came out when the black album did with their hair like it was and james voice the way it was it would have been pickin up from justice
@ohgoditsjames94 I mean I agree with you on his 84-88 voice being good but to me 88-89 is basically the exact same as far as how it sounds....88 is when he got the gritty type voice he has on ...and justice for all and the black album...cuz 88 is when justice was recorded...you can tell quite a bit of difference between his voice on puppets and 2 to 2 1/2 yrs later when they recorded justice. I've seen shows from 87 and he still had the lightning/puppets voice...88-91 was pretty similar...
@ohgoditsjames94 for example watch the video of them doing harvester of sorrow one of the first times they played it in the summer of 88...sounds awesome...look it up on youtube...it's harvester of sorrow live east rutherford 1988....you'll see it...it's the one that's taped from the audience and doesn't have good visual or really that good of audio honestly...hetfield has an all-out beard for the first time before he trimmed it up...looks like he hadn't shaved in 1 to 2 weeks at least lol
I loved this lineup...the first 3 albums are awesome...puppets is definately the best though...I do like justice, I do like the black album and I do like death magnetic...don't like st. anger at all really and load and reload only have like 8 songs between both albums that are worth listening to and are far below stuff like this obviously. death magnetic is the most amazing album they've made since puppets/justice/black album...it's more like justice as far as the songs being long n their sound
We need to stop being so sorrowful for cliff. If he was here he'd want us to be saying "Metal up your ass!" Not R.I.P. There is a interview when cliff says "Fuck you." So every time i listen to (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth I say, "Fuck you too Cliff"
Cliff is my inspiration. 09.27.86 the world lost one of the greatest bassists, greatest headbangers, the greatest musicans and certainly one of the greatest metallica member. ever.
@tbonius95 dude Jason was and is an awesome bassist and so is Rob...if Cliff was here he'd say it too. Cliff was more "unique" and the first to do the "bass solos" the way he did them...nobody had ever seen shit like that before. that's what got that started so we gotta give cliff the credit and I think he was head and shoulders above them musically (as far as writing) but talent wise he wasn't far far above them...just a lil....and I'm the biggest old school metallica fan you'll ever know....
Every metallica fan must read Enter Night - new book by Mick Wall. Once you do you will understand just how fucking brilliant, loved, looked up to, and respected Cliff was to that band. You were a gentle giant who loved weed, classical music, and fans. God bless you Cliff.
at the 9:00 .... hetfield talking about selling out because they're on a major label. imagine people saying they'd sold out for MASTER OF FUCKING PUPPETS!!! god these people must have died when they heard RELOAD 12 years later!!!!!
@MatsM1 If that works, we should do it Mayan/Aztec style; rip out the still beating heart, throw it in the fire, decapitate him, and then toss him down the pyramid steps.into the cannibalistic crowd. That's fuckin' metal!
Rise up, you metal fucks! Get off your asses and make some goddamned metal to take back the music scene for GOOD MUSIC instead of the crap our children are FORCED to listen to.
@maxpower789z Me and a friend are working on it. I'm playing since last year but rarely because I don't have a drum, maybe once a week, and my friend is playing guitar.
The 6 people who dislike this vid are probably spotty 13 year olds who can't play guitar but can play guitar hero on expert and think their cool cause they can.
@pike755 I don't agree, ...And Justice For All was an awesome album. The black album wasn't their best but still good. If Cliff was alive, Metallica would be different but still fucking epic. And Load and Reload were good albums, just different.

They are way better live, thats for sure!
I suppose "Gunnbullet46" could be referring to the technical aspect(or lack of)of the lick Kirk does here in this classic from Diamonhead;however, despite the fact that I could play this in my sleep(been playing for years!)it's cool 2listen to&that's primarily what matters to me:how I connect to a song on an EMOTIONAL level.Y'know what I mean?! When Diamondhead wrote this tune it was quite original (still is!).Not to mention,Metallica wouldn't be the same w/out the simple riffs of NWOBHM bands!
everyone has opinions on who the best bassist was and its always 2nd vs 3rd vs 4th...also noone seems to know or care about the 1st bassist, who they treated like the 3rd if his story is to be believed -sounds true enough to me...i just wonder how Cliff liked to have the action set up on his bass man, what kind of distortion did he use? was it a morely wah/distiortion like the one i left at my mates place? doh!...stuff like that, i miss his loss but enjoy his legacy for what it is -Greatness!
Uhm you are an idiot because it was Lars and James that started the band with Ron. Then Mustaine. Then Ron left. Cliff made them relocate to San Fransico. They went to New York. Fired Dave. Then Kirk came in.
Cliff was a great, great bassist, but I think he always looked a bit insecure on stage. Like Jason always exploded on stage, ran around and moshed. Cliff mostly just stood there and moshed : )
wrong. he used a pick and wut wuz up w his hair? Robert Trujillo was a worthy substitue for cliff. If you watch some kind of monster, you see that jason is a jerk and robert is cool.

everyone has opinions on who the best bassist was and its always 2nd vs 3rd vs 4th...also noone seems to know or care about the 1st bassist, who they treated like the 3rd if his story is to be believed -sounds true enough to me...i just wonder how Cliff liked to have the action set up on his bass man, what kind of distortion did he use? was it a morely wah/distiortion like the one i left at my mates place? doh!...stuff like that, i miss his loss but enjoy his legacy for what it is -Greatness!

Dicks back then Cliff Was Metallica and he brought everyone else into the band to make Metallica1
sau333 2 years ago
Uhm you are an idiot because it was Lars and James that started the band with Ron. Then Mustaine. Then Ron left. Cliff made them relocate to San Fransico. They went to New York. Fired Dave. Then Kirk came in.

Cliff was a great, great bassist, but I think he always looked a bit insecure on stage. Like Jason always exploded on stage, ran around and moshed. Cliff mostly just stood there and moshed : )
Vmt16 2 years ago
You're right but Jason was fucking insane and his backing vocals were great. He was a worthy substitute for Cliff.

@Snesboy09
I totally agree man, Jason had amazing stage presence!

I will agree that Jason's stage presence was definitely powerful

his headbanging on the Seattle gig is amazing, you could see his passion or the music he was playing.

HAWKO122323 2 years ago
wrong. he used a pick and wut wuz up w his hair? Robert Trujillo was a worthy substitue for cliff. If you watch some kind of monster, you see that jason is a jerk and robert is cool.
