Loved this show. On every Monday night, Laramie on Tuesday, Wagon train Wednesday. Can't begin to tell you the memories this brings back as a 9-10 year old at the time. You'll never see shows or hear music like this ever again.
Clint Walker was the man. Warners had so many great themes. I think my favorite was "Lawman," which I no longer see posted on youtube. Thanks for posting this wonderful memory from the Golden Age of TV theme songs.
@speedy45rpm I believe that the television programs in the Warner Brothers boilerplate were among the most melodic. Most of them were co-written by Mack David, whose brother is part of a famous songwriting ampersand.
@Juliaflo Wow, I never would have known that about Mack David, whose brother of course had a few hits of his own. I looked up Mack and found that other WB themes he co-wrote were "77 Sunset Strip," "Hawaiian Eye," "Surfside SIx" and "Bourbon Street Beat." Not to mention the themes to "Casper the Friendly Ghost" and the "Bugs Bunny Show" and the Shirelles hit "Baby It's You." Thanks for the information!
I was just a kid back in the 50's and 60's but I remember loving these shows and wishing that I had lived out west! I grew up just south of Detroit , in northern Ohio. Today I live in Denver, Colorado and I love this beautiful country. Can't help but think Mr. Walker had an influence on me and where I wanted to live!!
Great Theme Song and Spectacular Show. The reruns have been on cable TV recently and it brings back many happy memories. Clint Walker was perfect for the role of Cheyenne.
By the time I came along westerens was a thing of the past but last year I spent alot of time with my parents and they introduced me to western tv and I have to say that Cheyenne is my favorite, his theme song constantly plays in my head and his sexiness is beyon what most actors brings you today. Although I am a 80's baby and Cheyenne was totally not in my era I really love this show.
Does anyone remember an episode where Clint was sitting on a horse singing a song that went something like Ringo Rango Jingy dong dango....Spurs on my boots cause I dont give a hoot cause I got me a pretty womens love ??? I think it was cheyenne someone out there help me ...
@randymemphis I do believe that that may have actually been Fess Parker, in an old Disney movie. The song was "Ringle Rangle". It was one of their attempts at a "kid friendly" western, something along the lines of "Westward Ho! The Wagons", although I don't believe that was the movie it was in. Hope it helps.
@elc1960 The movie you're talking about is Westward Ho! released by Disney and yes Fess Parker did the song wringle wrangle. you can find a copy of the soundtrack album on ebay
@fatjud1 Wow! I got one right! Actually, I remember seeing that movie, but at the time I was very young and got bored with it. I remember some of the Mousketeers were in it, as was George Reeves (aka "Superman"). I saw it on Disney's "Wonderful World of Color" when I was about 4 or 5 (and I just showed myself to be a very oooollllldddd man for remembering the name of that TV show - LOL). Thanks for jogging my memory, which was better than I thought.
@elc1960 lol well i am only 32 but i love all these old shows especially the westerns. I don't know why their aren't any westerns on primetime tv anymore because people like a well made western.
@fatjud1 If you have the Encore package, you can occasionally see episodes of "Cheyenne" and "Maverick" there. And of course, TVLand has "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke" as part of their daily lineup. I agree, they should try a Western or two in prime time . . . gets a little bit monotonous with all the "CSI" spinoffs, bogus "talent competitions" and alleged "reality" shows glutting the TV landscape nowadays.
@elc1960 I have a lot of the old western shows on dvd including the complete series of cheyenne, maverick, the rifleman, lawman, trackdown, bronco, sugarfoot, law of the plainsman, johnny ringo, stories of the century, and have lots of almost complete series. I WISH I WISH I WISH they would give us at least one great western show on tv today.

Wow.....this was one of my top three as a kid. Bronco, Sugarfoot, Maverick, Bonanza, Rifleman were all up there. My parents never needed a TV Guide, just ask Mike what was on next. lol
Now I'm twice as old as these dudes were then....ugh. I'd rather be little watching Clint Walker again. :D
@mikefmich Great comment. My name happens to Mike as well, and I could have written this comment myself. There were some great western theme songs. This, Bronco, Paladin, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Tombstone Territory and Maverick.

Thanks so much for this posting. The Encore cable station has recently begun showing this series, but most of the time has only music and no lyrics. Thanks again for a great memory.
Immortal. One of the best theme songs ever. I just watched (on DVD) the first episode (from 1955). Besides Clint Walker, the episode has two of the greatest western character actors (John Doucette and Bob Wilke) , AND features James Garner's very first film appearance.
I wonder if anyone under the age of 40 who has no living memory of how good the music was on some of these old TV shows ever misses that element. as a young lad we didn`t have a telly in the late 50`s so i used to go and watch this at an old couples house that lived next door but 2 , so it always brings back happy memories . thanks
"I don't like to be pushed" Clint Walker's famous line from the Dirty Dozen. Lee Marvin say's " ah, go ahead Posey, just stick the knife in right here, it won't hurt much" Great scene. CW had it all, looks, talent, ability. I don't think he ever shot anyone on his TV series. Thanks for posting his theme. Hasn't America turned into a bunch of crap since 1956? Gere.
As an ageing baby boomer this theme reminds me of watching the great Clint Walker with my parents. What a man...what a great tv show...how I miss those days!
This episode originally aired on December 18, 1956, as part of an alternate week "package" that also featured a Warner Bros. anthology series, "CONFLICT", every other Tuesday night [7:30pm(et)] on ABC during the 1956-'57 season. In the fall of 1957, "CHEYENNE" became a weekly series.
I simply love this theme, thank you so much. This Western used to be the high light of my week on a Saturday night at 7PM on my small Black and White TV.
Man, does this song ever bring tears to my eyes. It makes me think back when I was little, and played cowboys and Indians on my grandpa's farm.
The lyrics sure paint a picture of a lonely man, and, the mention of "restless clouds up above" remind me of the big, white, puffy clouds against the open blue sky, along with the line "next pasture's always so green", which makes me think back on the summer days out in the country. To have that, and programs like this back again...
