Think about it, if a ware house covered 8 million square feet of earth, a skyscraper only has about 100,000 touching the ground you have you build individual walls floors and ceilings for each of those homes versus having one houses floor be anothers ceiling like in highrise skyscrapers. transportation also becomes more efficient because you don't need a car.

@gmkr2 the only reason the U.S isn't putting up a hundred skyscrapers a years is because they happen to be losing 850 billion $ a year because of the recesion. i bet it kills them to know that they're second best. i'm from toronto canada, home to the world's second :( tallest building the CN tower. trust me the second the u.s gets out of their recesion, which probably won't be anytime soon they'll be making tons of skyscrapers (and get themselves in another recesion).

We designed them, and we invented them, idiot. The first 'sky scraper' in the world was built in west Asia, more specifically Babylon ( Iraq ), in 2500 BC ! The tower's height was 757 meters, that's almost as tall is Burj Dubai. Google "Tower of Babel", "מגדל בבל" or "برج بابل" if you don't believe me.

Most Asian Skyscrapers were made by Asians, even Burj Khalifa was designed by a South Korean company, Samsung. So you can't call that western either, moron.
