Phoenix never said that Edgeworth committed suicide! In case 3 I think, Phoenix said that after P1C4, that Edgeworth got sick and died. But in P2C4 Phoenix said that Edgeworth was dead to him because he thought he ran away after P1C4 (Gyakuten Saiban 1, case 5 didn't exist) and he never wanted to see Edgey again. Therefore he told everyone that Edgeworth was dead.

darknight550, it's because we are looking at him from the other end of the court than what we're used to. Phoenix has always been on the defense side of the court. If you have played Phoenix Wright, you would have already noticed this.
