  • "You have to wonder whether Joe had a part in the orchestration here…" That's possible, but I would guess Joe might have composed the melody and Spud did the orchestrating and arranging. 

  • A standout piece of "art deco" or "premodern" jazz writing recorded Oct. 2, 1934. That's the one and only Bud Freeman on tenor, Paul Mitchell on piano (who'd been with Haymes since the band began in 1930).

    You have to wonder whether Joe had a part in the orchestration here, as some of the ideas definitely have his stamp on them. He and Murphy worked together very closely, and in fact the ARC 78 label credits "Murphy-Haymes"...
