ok thanks a few missing-what about dick bulldog brower -brower power--dominic dunnicie-brute bernard,,art nelson,spiros arion-thanks for posting-oh tiger singh
Bob Backlund(no brainer), Thunderbolt patterson, Mr. Wrestling II, Ric Flair, Antonio Inoki, Ole Anderson, Gene Anderson, Mad Dog Vachon.
Some names I would not have included:
Killer Karl Kox, Mark Lewin, Jackie Fargo, Ox Baker, Stan Stasiak, Ivan Koloff.
I think a lot of WWWF wrestlers from that era get way more credit than they should as far as star power due to the fact they are the only company from that era that still exists in a credible form.
The NWA champions were the biggest stars in wrestling at that time. While I agree with Andre being high in the rankings, I believe that Harley Race, Jack Brisco, Terry and Dory Funk and Dusty Rhodes were bigger stars than Andre.
nothing against harley race who i thought was great, but bruno sammartino dominated race when they wrestled against each other in their few rare matches.
Shame on you for leaving out Tor Kamata . . . who dedicated his life to wrestling and held many championships from the 60's to the 80's!! Who loved the business and NEVER sold out . . .
Well, I woulda put Mad Dog Vachon on this list (unless I missed him on here somehow) and definitly woulda had Bockwinkel higher. Prolly higher than Verne!!! Otherwise, good list!!!
Those girls posed on Andre's shoulders at the end are (L-R) Donna Christanello, Toni Rose, Debbie Johnson and Vicki Williams. I don't disagree with your list, but I might change the order of some of them. Purely my opinion though, as is your list your opinion. Today's modern wrestling fans have never even heard of some of the people on the list. Nice job!
pretty good...would trade Stasiak for Backlund though. And since it was a :Top 40 you should had include Ric Flair. He accomplished a lot in the 70s and was a top draw.
Actually alot of these guys were in their prime in the 60's. Where's Larry Zabhysco or Bob Backlund? Where's Rocky Johnson or Tony Atlas? How about Big John Studd or Ivan Putski? Seriously, no Ken Patera? I think you might have your decades a little mixes up. Verne Gagne? Killer Kowalski? Like I said, alot of these guys were big in the 60's.
@jjevans2009 All the guys you named were bigger stars in the 80's than they were the 70's (cept maybe Putski). Verne held the AWA title for the entire first half of the decade in the 70's. Kowalski I would agree with though, although he did feud with Bruno alot in the 70's main eventing MSG quite a bit!!!
@Rayla840 They were more well known in the 80's because TV exposure was greater, but they were in the prime of their careers much earlier. Watching Verne Gagne wrestle in the 80's was nostalgic, but he wasn't in the shape he was 15 or 20 years earlier. Kowalski was wrestling Sammartino in the 60's and perhaps the very early 70's. Bruno was feuding with guys like Billy Graham and Ken Patera in the 70s.
The two greatest wrestlers from this era are missing....Freddie Blassie and John Tolos. I know this is your list but these omissions are near unforgivable....That being said, an awesome collection of many wrestlers I completely forgot about....
abby deserves to be top 10...(the briscos never saw what was so good) giant baba top 10 and NOT superstar..#1 spot...you NAILED IT...again my opinions
@lambert581 hogan first appeared in 77 and calling him a great wrestler of the 70s is complete shit he was an 80s man he was a low key wrestlers in 70s he was still not imortal thats like saying greay wrestlers of 1995 hhh even though he was a lowcard player

Hey moron maybe you were not alive during the 70s but Bruno Samartino should be number one of not only the 70s but of all time.

Wow, very accurate list. Of course Andre had to be #1. Race is a good choice for 2 but I would have put Bockwinkel at 3. Nicely done list though.
