  • what do i need to do to play ps3 in 3d on my hlt6187s THANKS!

  • Can these TVs be used to watch espn 3d and can you play xbox games in 3d?

  • My problem with LED TV's is the cartoonish quality of colors, DLP is superior on that, the video is right about the speed of the video prossesing of the DLP's, even with the frame interpolation now popular on LED/ lCD still the alising created by the pixel mismatch during the decoding is very noticeable and kills the filmic sense of movies.

  • lol/ ridiculous. Basically what he's saying is the equivalent of saying, "if you want superior picture quality buy Beta instead of VHS. It might be discontinued but if you can find someone who makes it (which you can't) you'll have the better system. lol. sounds like a lot of wasted time to me, especially with TVs like the Pioneer Kuro and the Panasonic VT30 out there. Best TVs ever.

  • @bandit7498 Discontinued at Samsung. DLP (and laser DLP) technology continues on at Mitsubishi - which Samsung passed the torch to via Texas Instruments. Sorry, but DLP blows away any plasma, LCD, or ANY flat-panel back-lit or glass-cell technology attempted to date. Kuro and TV30 are plasma - disgustingly bad. Plasma is GARBAGE. It's the same as a picture tube, without the electron gun. Each cell is fired independently, but it's still glowing gas. It will never reach theatrical brightness.

  • @rightsideofhistory I'm not going to go the same route as you and bash the DLPs because they are great looking TVs. Nothing can match the black levels of a DLP. But to call the Panasonic VT30 or Pioneer Kuro"disgustingly bad" is just dumb. As far as brightness goes, not real hard for TVs today to duplicate brightness. Problem with people is they think bright is always better and it's not. People's skin isn't meant to freakin' glow ya know.

  • @rightsideofhistory If you prefer the look of DLPs I can respect that. But the sharpness of a plasma or even the LEDs can't be matched by a projector of any kind. There is something to be said for being too sharp too and I personally don't prefer the LEDs over plasma. All I'm saying is why would I continue to invest in a discontinued technology? I'll never have to stop changing bulbs. The color wheel is gonna break. And oh, I have to search for a discontinued blu ray player?

  • @rightsideofhistory I still have my old Mitsubihi 55" projector. Not DLP, but a great TV for it's time. Knowing what I know now about DLPs I would have gotten one of those back then. But my projector is still working great and nothing has been replaced. I also have a 65" GT30. I've seen the GT30 beside one of Mitsubishi's DLPs, and not in a store setting. To me there's no comparison. Technology has proven the DLP to be obsolete. Only a matter of time b4 Mitsubishi drops them.

  • Will this work on my Samsung HL87A750A1F DLP TV? I'm not so sure if it is a 3D ready TV. It was one of the first TV's with LED's I believe.

  • After submitting this, I realized i type the wrong number in. I have a Samsung HL67A750A1F 67" DLP TV.

  • I know someone who has a led samung that is the same size and brand new, but the Samsung dlp led tv I have blows it away for picture quality.

  • I have a samsung pn50b450. i read that the 3d is only enable at the tv's native resolution which is 1360x728... how can i get 3d blu rays to work? i know i read that the panasonic makes a bluray player that does checkerboard, but does it work at 720 P???? i would really like to get this all figured out. and by the way nice video!!!

  • Thanks!!!! Someone asked about HDMI cables: So the newer 3D technology rides across HDMI 1.4(A)... These Samsung models ONLY SUPPORT HDMI 1.3 - which means it doesn't really matter which type of HDMI cable you use, as 1.3. Yes, there are conversion solutions out there, but its pretty frustrating that Samsung hasn't released firmware for my BD-P3600 to output to checkerboard....

  • Newest Samsung 3D BluRay BD-D6500 BluRay3D player Does NOT work with Samsung DLP HTL6187SX/XAA TV! It doesn't support DLP 3D checkerboard pattern! There is nothing in the setup menu even after upgrading firmware!! Info at 10:48 on Checkerboard 3d shows that ONLY PANASONIC DMP-BDT300 and DMP-BDT350 will will with a DLP TV.

  • hey man, seeing if you could give me your quick opinion. i am thinking of buying a used floor model, (in supposedly, perfect condition with a brand new bulb) of the HL61A650 for 450 with delivery. A) is this a good deal? and B) is it still good compared to the last two models with LED? thanks!

  • I am so Happy I found this video. I have a friend with a Samsung hl56a650 DLP 3D ready tv and he thinks he can hook it up to were he can see everything 3D including regular tv broadcasting on 3D- pay-per-view movies.. I am so sick of explaining that he just cant. He can either do it how you explained it or hooking it up to a pc.... WOW I will make him watch this video

  • @TeresaMac Be careful. Your friend is kinda right. As long as the source is CHECKERBOARD 3D format, his Sammy will work fine. If the source isn't checkerboard, there is the cracked Mitsubishi converter box combo kit available at dubya dubya dubya dawt tru3d dawt com for $279.00. It will convert side-by-side (or top-bottom) broadcast 3D into checkerboard 3D format. I bought the kit - works for Xbox (Black Ops, etc), sat TV channels, anything side-by-side.

  • @rightsideofhistory I figured that.. I just have to do the research for him and call his provider and find out... I have seen the cracked Converter.. Thanks this helps me help him moree... You are awesome..

  • I have samsung ps50b451 50 inch plasma. i have all the kit required in the post. what my question is. will the mitsubishi 3da-1 and gefen hdmi plus work with sky 3d so i can watch their 3d channel.

  • Will these Samsung 3d ready tv's work with my PS3 in playing 3D Movies and Games?

  • @MrStunner43 let me know if you figure it out!! i have been searching with no luck. If i come up with something i'll let u know!!

  • i went to the tru3d website and hlt5075s isnt compatible do you know for sure if the panasonic work for my tv or am i just out of luck

  • @snookiie2001 Your problem is you needed the 5076 - which is true 1080p HD. The 5075 only does 720p. The barrier is you need 1080p to do checkerboard 3D off the Panasonic BluRay player(s). Your TV is capable of doing 3D - but only in 720p, which only works with the old 2008 PC-based setups (which flopped).

  • You can now connect a Mitsubishi 3DA-1 adapter to a source (like a PS3, BluRay Player not mentioned in the vid, or Comcast cable) to convert their format to checkerboard. It is made for Mit set so you also need an HDmi Detective kit to work on a Samsung. Both of these are available on Amazon for about $100 each. You can skip the HDmi Detective if you know how to flash your Sammy's EDID to a Mitsubishi EDID - check avsforum for details.

  • That was very wrong for Samung not to release a Bluray player to support their 3D DLP sets. I wonder if there's a class action lawsuit pending!

  • I went over my friends house and plugged it in to his DLP Mitsubishi TV and followed the the instructions for it to capture & save the info from the TV

  • Is there a way to get 3d from comcast to work on these tvs?

  • @gniknayek If the 3D format being output by your Comcast receiver is "checkerboard" format - then yes. Otherwise, no.

  • @gniknayek Yes there is. You need to buy mitsi 3dc-1000 plus a little extra work. either mail me and when I am at my comp I can send you links. or jus google that . and you should be able to find the answers you are looking for

  • ***ADDENDUM / UPDATE December 2010 ***

My video is still accurate, but additional info: **TV SETTINGS: important, and not in the video - - you must name your HDMI3 input to "PC" in your TV menu settings. Otherwise, 3D screen redraw timing will be off and will slightly ghost. **PLAYER: Panasonic now has a BDT100 model that equally supports checkerboard 3D, at a much cheaper price point than the BDT300 and BDT350. **GLASSES: best glasses are XpanD X102, and don't require an emmitter

  • WHAT - IS - DLP?!?!

  • @MagnusRulerHardt Digital Light Projection. I suggest Wikipedia to explain the rest. Much better than I can in 500 characters or less.

  • @rightsideofhistory

I read about it. I also read some really short articles on DLP 3D with lack of information. I wanted to find a 3D solution that doesn't require active shutters (I want polarized light).

  • @rightsideofhistory whats up Will it work on the samsung HL-T5076S

  • @ratedrg1 According to the Illustrated Guide to 3D TV's web page, confirmed yes. See the link in the pulldown menu under the video. Scroll down to the 2007 Samsung models and you will see.

  • also. From what I've read the Panasonic dmp-bdt100 Blu-ray also supports checkerboard. Its doesnt have all the bells and whistles as the 300-350 series but its a far less price, for the person just wanting to get into 3d.

  • I've had my Sammy DLP for about 6 months now. I purchased the 61" 3d ready set. My main question is, Which glasses are better? I've seen glasses that you actually plug an emmitter up to the tv to "sync" the picture with the glasses and I've seen the glasses that "sync" automatically with the picture and don't require a emmitter. Logic would tell me the emmitter glasses would be more precise since its a wired connection. Do you have any specific recommendations on Glasses both IR and other.

  • @rightsideofhistory The newer 103 Xpands may be the better choice for glasses, besides being universal, they have the quickest response time.

  • I disagree with some of the responses re long winded. Your commentary was very helpful, regarding your research and the fact the DLP is a good option visually and so on. I did not even realize my TV as 3D capable, now I am on my way to having the equipment and set up necessary to view 3D. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to create this video.

PS I was hoping my PS3 would work, apparently does not?

  • @geprosestreet The PS3 thing is unknown unless somebody can testify to it. If the PS3 puts out checkerboard 3D format, you're all set.

  • Hi i have the HL72A650 and i love it. Im confused about wut i need. I have also a samsung blu ray player and when i rented the movie Bloody Valentine and Coraline, the 3d worked great. My question is do i jus need the emitter n shutter glasses or will the mitsubishi 3d kit be compatible with my Samsung to view Tv and Xbox games in 3d.

Do i need to get this "stereoscopic player" off the internet?

  • @toro727 Bloody Valentine and Coraline aren't "real" 3D. They use paper glasses with red/blue lenses. Garbage. If you were impressed, then you're REALLY going to like real 3D. :)

The emmitter/glasses setup is Samsung's system, but I added a new comment relating to updated results in my experience...

  • Exactly what I was looking for. Great video bro.

  • Here is what you need either the Mitsubishi 3DC-1000 3d Kit (which comes with 2 pairs of glasses) price is $400,

or just get The Mitsubishi 3DA-1, cost is $100 and a Gefen HDMi Defective Plus, cost $100, you would just need to buy the glasses separately.

  • @eddieadyr how do you program your Gefen Detective to Mits. specs?????

  • I have the Samsung 67" HL67A750 DLP TV and I use the Mitsubishi 3DC-1000 3d kit and use my PS3 to watch Blueray and play games in 3d. I use all my existing HDMI cables.

  • I was told that my samsung pn50b450 can't do 3d unless I hook a CPU to it.I really want to play my PS3 on it using 3D.

  • @BMT8920 Not true. No computer CPU needed ! That *used to be* the only source of checkerboard 3D. So the advice was somewhat correct. But now, the BluRay players I show in the video REPLACE the entire computer. I don't even mention computers in the video because they are not worth confusing people over.

  • Can you use the BDT100? Also, do you need an HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 cable?

  • do nvidia geforce 3d vision work whit the tv.where can i get the emitter glasses to buy

  • @damion2430 I have no idea about the nvidia glasses. If they have an IR emitter that fits the plug on the TV, I would say yes. Otherwise, cannot confirm. Links for glasses are in the pulldown description...

  • So will this work for the 3D programing that they show on TV, like on Directv 3d channels and better yet will PS3 have a 3d option to show checkerboard 3d?

  • @skrotm I really don't know what they will be using for format....the PS3 console and DirectTV receiver will *have to* be using checkerboard format output....or we're dead in the water. That I DO know.

  • Great video and very informative too. I also have the HL67A750, which I love. I have to ask though, are PS3s are compatible with checkerboard 3D output? In a quick google search I saw that most people said no, but a couple people said yes.

  • @RunaboutETL I don't know about the PS3 yet. Hasn't been confirmed I don't think. Not from my research anyway.

  • Accurate but long-winded. ;-) This nugget of information should help many legacy Samsung DLP 3DTV owners!

  • @awoods3d Yes, I talked about way too much detail. For those reading this, if you want to bypass the preamble and get right to the FOUR STEPS... click at 5:01 on the timebar and watch from there.

  • A wonderful job! (a little long winded, but better than vague and confusing!!!) All those millions who bought Samsung "3D ready" sets should see this. I think it would also work with Mitsubishi 3D ready DLP's (120hz models). Mitsubishi did make a box for BluRay 3D, but they DELIBERATELY built it so that it COULDN'T WORK with Samsung! Priced at about $100, that means they didn't want the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS they could have made IF THEY HAD MADE A UNIVERSAL BOX! Hope they go broke.
