This video shows difficulty with some allies...some on the Left would totally marginalize Dreamers with their revolutionary BS games. Dreamers are already Americans; they simply lack legal status...they don't want to fight America; this is their home. They are us!
I like this. The actor in the middle probably represents some opinions from viewers. But I like how they emphasis when the guy in the blue shirt talks about how great Mexico is...and then they ask "then you're back right?". Mexico is a 3rd world monopoly country, that understanding should not go unmentioned. I also like how they mentioned incarceration. I personally think that to get incarcerated will not solve anything, it just adds more business revenue to jails and prisons. Great video.
While privilege of white activists and white savior mentality are real issues we have to deal with in the movement I think this video is also a bit reactionary in the misrepresentation of revolutionary politics. And there is a real point on the Dream act. Do we really want to get papers in exchange of destroying the dreams of our brothers and sisters in other places? whatever happened to solidarity? oh and for the record I'm a recent undocumented person so I don't even quality for AB540
@Fuerzatriplea ,You say you're undoc. so I take you're word on what options you would take from the Dream Act. However, for ppl of privilege to be telling someone "do this, not that" is wrong...."But if it were up to me..." but it aint up to me since i aint that position - and allies shouldnt shut ppl's opportunities to change their circumstances. do we need more minorities dyin @ war? hell naw! but as a citizen, these "allies" dont help with their talk of "revolutionary politics". paz.
@blacksheep185 i dont think he cares whether some bullshit allies help or not help with revolutionary talk , we as undocumented people, a direct result of Imperialism and Capitalism demand a revolutionary response to this problem. we as undocumented people are not here to "help" sweep things under the rug but instead bring to the limelight that the only viable way forward in order to bring freedom to the undocumented of now and of the future is through an engagement with revolutionary politics .
@blacksheep185 Also people who view the dream act as reactionary imperialist response to the immigration issue arent simply against the military component because "minorities need to stop dying in a war" but because we understand that the genocidal wars the U.S has ignited in the Middle East/Africa are inhumane, illegal and immoral. and as individuals who are subject to human rights violations we stand in solidarity with the those who's human rights are also being violated in foreign nations
@blacksheep185 that is why I think the video perhaps was trying to tackle a very real and important issue, which is privilege in the movement, but unfortunately did it in a very negative way, by dismissing revolutionary politics along with it. A lot of our own people in latin-america have died because of their revolutionary politics just fyi.
To be honest, I consider myself a very intelligent person. However, I do not understand the concept of this video, especally the guy in the middle and your, "[s]ome times, the're allies. Sometime, ther're DREAMers as well" (dreamersadrift). Would you care to explain?
@crepusculardreamer how can someone get "privilegecheck" when the views of the actor are so deeply treasured by undocumented youth. they didnt make the guy in the middle an undocumented because they simply didnt want to have a dialogue with their viewers
Wow! Y'all got my respect now, total. If you are able to have a cool -yet deep- conversation about the Dreamer issues just like this... then You are modeling real gentleman dialogue. Imagine the Minutemen actually thinking? Uhm, well that's a stretch; but regular folk indeed would. By the way, this episode's issue of army recruiters going after our youth really hit home. It has been a huge concern. Episode8 shows that Dreamers are fully conscious. My total admiration 4 intelligentsia
