The 312s were great and should have lasted a lot longer than they did. The newest ones were younger than a lot of the 313s and Mk3 coaches still running, and the HSTs. None of them even made 30 years, some barely made 25. It was just the slam doors that let them down, had they been fitted with sliding doors they would likely still be in service.
What bloody berk retired these great trains? I've never caught anything on camera older than a Class 313. But still, you've done so. Good for you! 5.1/5!
used to love bashing these in the 80s and 90s on my visits to london (with my one day travelcard in my hand :) )

312s and 309s were the best EMUs. Shame they weren't around longer really.
Fortunately a pair of 309s have now been preserved and one is expected to run again, so we may once again see a 309 at LST! :-)
