sorry to say the race issue had a lot to do with the fall of Detroit. race riots in Detroit started in the 40s and continued off and on into the 80s. the black population liked to burn down blocks of houses and violence was widespread. this caused most of the white population to move out of Detroit and with them they took most of the money and left abandoned buildings. the first black mayor who was extremely corrupt, squandering resources, didn't help. with the loss of jobs, crippled the city.

The term "white flight" is what is used to describe the migration of whites out of inner-cities. And "white flight" is not unique to Detroit, it happened all over the United States. Now we are seeing gentrification in most inner cities, which is almost reverse "white flight."
