  • Hi can you use a brush on a horses face because some people do but some people say you cant

  • umm your not meant to use the dandy or "stiff bristle" brush on the legs ...

  • yeah i heard that if the horseis expirienced enough with being groomed, then you should be able to just walk behind it if it knows your there. and our horse shouldnt kick out when yur grooming it unless you did something to it , but hey i do think it is safer to walk around

  • the stiff brush isn't for the legs

  • your not really spost to use the stiff brush on the legs thats what the soft brush is for...

  • I was kicked in the face by a horse, and it was NOT fun, I choose to either walk way around as she does here, or very close behind with my hand on my horses rump.

  • she is a beautiful horse!

  • lol you have to wonder how many times she's been kicked to be that cautious xD My horse doesnt give a shit if you do a friggin flip off his ass.

  • wat a orible main init!

  • shes obsessed with horses startleing!!!

    every film she says it!!

  • @stargirlamy well what if someone was watching that vuideo for the first time! and its a good thing she mentions it because anything can scare a horse. And if you dont know how to properly be safe around a horse you could get seriously injured or even die in the horse kicks you in the head!

  • Why don't you sack your horse out? That way you don't have to walk 20 feet away from their butt

  • cool

  • cool

  • Come on Kelli be real....you just like your hand on her rump! We all know it!

  • why don't you use some of these brushes on your own hair ... now that would be an idea ; are you a wrestler part time or what ??? gentle and common sense is not really part of this course isn't it ??? what about confidence ??? I do not see any .... if you are so scare of horses I think you should consider Tennis

  • that horse has a beautiful coat! Its so shiny! it looks like it gets groomed 24/7 :P I love that horse!

  • Wow, thats kind of ridiculous, you shouldnt walk that far behind. I have a yearling, and he spooks at everything and i still walk behind him, closely and put my hand on his butt, and thats the safest way to do it, plus you talk to them. And you dont just pat a horse when youre walking up behind them, you talk to them, if you pat them and they dont see its you, theyre more likely to spook at that...

Plus you use a body brush on their legs and face.

  • @Horses4Life132 She is exagerating for the newbies. And if you already know how to do it, why are you watching this? To critisize.

  • I agree with most of these people ever scince I was about 3 my mom told me to never brush the horses legs with hard stif brushes, You need to use a soft brush for the legs. I have a mare that has 3 white socks and they do get muddy but to get the mud off I use a RUBBER curry comb, and GENTLY rubb of the dirt and mud, then go over the socks witha soft brush.

  • @ShineBells It's called a dandy brush and you use it for the body and legs, not head. Although I do agree with what you're saying here.

  • oh, and she can see and hear you...you don't need to "give her a pat". she knows you're there

  • how stupid r u??? u want to walk AS CLOSE as u can to their butt, so if they do decide to kick, they don't have enough momentum to actully make it hurt...

  • That is another way to do it but walking around you WON'T get kicked at all.

  • Yes...

Because horses legs are about 20 metres long, and can kick you sooo far away.....

And you dont use hard brushes on legs...

  • Theyre called dandy brushes but i guessppl call them stiff brushes too..... and we were taught to only use a body brush (soft bristled) on theyre legs and face

  • I was taught that you should only use a soft brosh like a body brush on a horse's legs as they are sensitive. Is this true?

  • If my horse has dried mud on her legs i use a plastic curry to gently get it off,

  • xD whats with the HUGE circle around the horses but!? its actually better to be closer should the horse kick because the closer you are the less powerful it is. Unless your horse is a kicker (in which case 20m circle may be necessary =p) just make sure they know you're there. and whats with using a stiff brush on a horses legs? you should never use a hard brush on a horses legs! even the pony club know that one!

  • NEVER EVER use a stiff brush on your horse's legs.

  • why? the horse didnt show any pain ^-^

  • These expert village people are more like village idiots, try how to groom a horse by pleatec13 , much better video , and no twenty metre circles round the horses back-side !

  • Actually , horses have a coat , not hair or fur.

  • Comment removed

  • OK posters, just want all of you to know that horses have HAIR not fur. Did she really say FUR?? I will have to go apologize to my horse tomorrow for walking around her too close and maybe startling her..I will remember to walk at least 20 feet away from now on. They spend more time on how to muck a stall then how to ride in these videos DUH!?! Posting satire is SO much fun--Ya'll should try it. LOL

  • y does she walk that far away from the horse she looks so stupid i meen does she not trust the horse

  • i absolutly loathe the way she walks so far away from her horse. if anything that is worse than walking directly behind your horse. if you walk far away from your horse, they don't know where you are, and if you just suddenly appear on the other side they could get startled. but if you walk behind the horse with one hand on them to let them know where you are they will be less spooked and less likely to kick you or freak out.

  • i know! That what i have done for a long time and i've been around horse's my whole life, and i've NEVER gotten kicked!

  • if you to mysocksskilletrocks yeah if you been training horses for about 8 years why r u watchin this i mean wouldnt you be an expert

  • You dont walk behind a horse at any second! You walk in front of them because they and rear and break free from their knot and trample you!

  • um yeah you do walk behind a horse, you either walk really close so that if they do get scared and kick then you are not going to get the full force of it, or you walk really far behind the horse so that it cant kick you.

  • Actually....you dont....no horse is safe to walk behind....

  • um yeah they are, i have been training horses for roughly 8 years, and sometimes when they are tied up then there is no way to walk in front of them.

  • It doesnt matter....and I dont care if you are Beezie Madden....NO horse, and I mean absolutely NO horse is safe enough at any time to walk behind. If they are tied up, you walk around the post of which they are tied up on....

  • um yeah when i take my lessons, my trainer even tells me just walk behind the horse, i understand that if it is a very wild untamed horse but most would be fine, they are trained to be used to things walking behind them/

  • I dont care what your trainer tells you...not even the best trained horse in the entire universe would be safe enough to walk behind. All horses are unpredictable!!!

  • there are ways to tell if and what a horse may do, anyway what do you care if i get hurt grooming a horse?

  • I care about most everyone whom deals with a horse. I mean, no one DESERVES to get hurt by a horse, or anything for that matter. Besides...I believe I've been riding for quite longer than you, check out my videos with Rocky in them. I watched yours and I can say that you are on your way to being a good rider...^^

  • yeah those are my sister riding, they used to say that horse was mine but we sold him to the stable we ride at, so that is why i am much better you can ask her.

  • That is really overgeneralizing horses. True, it's safer for most horses to walk in front of them, but a lot of horses are perfectly content with you walking behind them. And also, who are you to dictate (and so rudely, may I add) what other people do? If they get hurt, it's their fault and you don't need to butt in.

  • Did anyone ask you? I am sure you don't know how bad it hurts to be fully kicked by a horse, do you?

  • Oh you are? OMG ARE YOU PSYCHIC? Actually, I do. And stepped on. But nice guess. That's besides the point anyways. I'm not gonna get in a fight with a 13 year old via youtube comments.

  • And how old are you? I am not 13. I am 14....thank you very much.

  • Haha OHHHH sorry. Such a difference. And I'm 24, fyi. Besides, what does our age and expertise (which i have MUCH more of, obviously) have to do with the matter at hand? Your infantile comments are off topic, at best.

  • @mysocksskilletrocks Or you could hold on hand on the horse when you walk behind it, so it knows you'r there. Thats what I do :)

  • Wow you use a soft brush for thier legs ...Expert village yeah right the other lady is so much better and she's awesome for teaching

  • no, a stiff brush can be used on the legs. it is very helpful to get off dried mud before putting boots on.

  • wow and she calls herself an "expert" she should know to NEVER use a stiff brush to brush horses legs! you always use a soft brush!

  • acctually you can! y wouldn't you!?

  • this is stupid

    she sucks

  • actually, i was taught that you should stick close to the horse's rump because then if the horse DOES happen to kick, then you wont be injured or hurt. Walking further away from the horse isn't too great and if the horse kicks, then you're more likely to be struck by her hooves therefore more injuries may occur..

But, this is quite helpful to green riders :D

  • this woman is fucked up and a total crack head. dont listen to her! watch the other video with the same woman "cantering". it is soooo funny cause she cant. when she trots she doesnt even posts, just bounces around. lol.

  • maybe cuz shes western but i agree lol! i post in a western saddle anyway(one i like posting 2 im trainin a western horse to do english n they an all western barn n i dont have a saddle)

  • When Horses like move there tall a lot, does it mean anything?

  • usually they're just trying to get the flys away fro them, but sometimes horses flick their tails when they are annoyed.

  • If I recall, you're not supposed to use a hard brush all the way down the legs. I'll have to ask my instructor about that.

And going around a horse, I was taught to go around the front whenever possible. And if not possible, stay as close as possible behind him/her keeping a hand on his/her rump and talk to him/her.

  • ya ur supposed to brush a horse w/ a stiff brush...THATS WHY THEY INVENTED THEM!!!

  • ur not supposed to brush a horses legs with a hard/stiff brush! only a soft brush can do that

  • Yes you are.... leave her alone!

  • Ummm.. You arent supposed to brush a horse with a "Stiff brush" or what most people call a hard brush...

  • Ermm brush their legs!!!

    Left that out!! WHOOPSS

  • you dont brush horses legs with a stiff brush.. you always use a soft brush

  • Yee I know.. Thats what I meant but I like messed up my typing.

  • Yer but even if you own a horse it can still kick if they dont see you thats why she keeps patting her so that the horse can feel were she is when she cant see her going around her bum

  • shes doing a good job! even if she is scared you always need to be prepared, what if something happened that made a loud noise to start the horse. she may not be scared but u need to be prepared, even if you and the horse trust each other, this is a 700lb+ animals. safety first!

  • What a gorgeous horse!

  • yea.. i think she's setting an example for new riders monkiesruleearth.. i bet anything shes not scared of her horse

  • lol every vid i see you in... what are you afraid of your horse. god your afraid of a horse lol im laughing at you. god your horse KNOWS your there stupid. if your horse likes you and your grooming you don't have much to worry about, but then the way your grooming my horse would kick you too, acting like your scared hell if i was a horse i'd kick you just for the hell of it

  • why would you say she's scared of her horse?

  • notice how she stands off from the horse, and how her movements are cautious at best. also she spends at least half the video talking about how not to get kicked. but mostly its her body language

  • well probably 'cause this is a vid demonstrating on how to properly care for your horse, so she is just saying make sure to walk at a distance so if the horse kicks you won't get hurt. but i don't think she's scared.

  • *you'RE like, you are.

when you're criticizing something you know nothing about..you should at least spell correctly.

  • Colby is Stunning!!
