mm, I do not think that if the project succeeded it would show intelligence. It just shows that humans understand some aspects of knowledge of things we use in intelligence. For example causal relations.Intelligence i believe however is much more than understanding causal relations, or accidental relations, or any relation at all. I think there's something more fundamental to intelligence than that,but i would not know what. (And even a causal relationship is ambigious,why? f.e. could mean a lot

CYC is nice, But to make it work it needs to have accumulated years of human experience, something that would take billions of terabits of storage. You would have to give it the ability to think in space\time as well. All these are years down the road and not anyone person is going to make it work.

To save the symbolic AI now Lenat wants CYC to have networking capabilities and parts of CYC to run on multiple machines and to exchange the results of their processing.

I say this is a correct direction. However if CYC ever to become autonomous then I propose to feed facts to parts of CYC in the form of direct inputs from sensors (as it is with humans) and use CYC's knowledge about types of relations between facts to create hierarchical structures of meaning out of basic signal-like facts.

Lenat is so GREAT but mislead by Minsky.

Minsky is so outdated. He highlights some relevant issues but approaches the solution in a completely outdated/wrong ways.

How long "priming the pump" on CYC will take? The world moves on and new words and knowledge are created every day. If people 5000 years ago are to be considered intelligent then why not equip CYC only with what they knew and let him learn the rest.

CYC gave us inside into common sense but it has to change.
