Both are nice cars. I got myself an FD RX-7 recently and absolutely love it. Even stock it's plenty fast for the small roads in Ireland. I think I might quietly save for a single turbo conversion though and as much as I loved the Viper as a kid I don't think I'll ever get 1, just too American (no offense) but too big an engine for a sports car.

great ride. rotary if moded right way with 3 rotors (20b) or 4 rotors (26b) can become a rockets I seen videos of rx7 or 8 beating all kind a cars . is a engine that you need to know or learn but if you go to RX8CLUB.COM is a free site were you are going to learn how to take care of your rotary & see how every owner will die for the car. lol. check my rx8 is for weekend with wife & kid that' why I got it auto. still great ride. 2nd generation in late 80's same engine & 3r generation with turbo option that was stronger than rx8. & from 04 rx8 is the same 13b renovared called renesis ,

I had an rx7 94 turbo lol I was single. & know own 06 rx8 . RX8 is known for fantastic handlin & extra suiside door & room for 4. is not only my opinion if you check "MOTOR TREND" & "CAR & DRIVER RX8 $30,000  car beating in handling vette gt-r $80,000cars. thanks to 50/50 balanced weight couse of rotary engine nice smooth &

I don't want to offend anyone just to those curios asking about what cars use rotary engines. mazda is the only company that use rotarys for more than 40 years. & keep trying to inprove the rotary function. In 1960 they have 3 models with rotary,in 70,s mazad have the rotary in 12 models in 80's they went back to 3 models ,in 90's 2 models eunos cosmo & rx7 & now from 04 till 2010 the rx8.

That may be true but...the cost of a DV ACR is around 105k and the price of a stock RX-7 is about hmmm 14k from Japan, so if you wanted to dump that extra 91k into the RX-7, the Viper would be annihilated on any track you wanted to put the two on. Hands down.

no there is other mazda rx and im sure other companys other than mazda have them in there cars ... i know there are rotary boats but i dont know if there original .. i do know there is a oldish model suzuki road bike that is a singal rotar engine ... hope that help :)

The rx models are all rotary (all the way from the rx-2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and i think there was an rx100)

The mazda jc eunos cosmo comes stock with the 20B rotary engine And i believe there are a few more japanese only production cars with the rotary engine. excluding the use of the rotary in boats, planes etc

@bauuau18 Every model car with the RX in it has a rotary. RX-7, RX-8, all the way back to the early RX's like the RX-3 Savannah. The most widely uses rotaries are probably the 13B-RE/W or the Renesis from the RX-8.

The rx7, rx8, cosmo, and rotary truck were the only large production vehicles with rotary engines. However, other manufacturers toyed around with the motor in concept vehicles but none ever made it into production.

If you're talking about the third gen RX-7s, which came out AFTER the Viper, then yes. They look similar. Second gens look totally different. I used to own one.

the Rx7 was around first, but dodge started the viper in 89, wasnt very popular though, and it kinda had the body style first, but the Rx7 looks so much better when they made that body style in either 92 or 93

I think we can all agree that Vipers and RX7's are both bad ass cars to own. Both are fast as shit, and both have shit gas mileage...lol. I loved my FD though.
