Marilyn suffered from endometriosis which might be the cause for the natural abortions she experienced throughout her life. She tried so hard to have children, but could not get pregnant. This made her even more depressed and sad. =(

According to a biography by B Leaming, Marilyn entered Cedars of Lebanon Hospital to undergo surgery for endometriosis, a condition of the womb which caused her a lot of physical pain. She looks weak and sad and this video makes me want to rush up and protect her from the reporters.

Actually, yes, Marilyn did suffer from a mental illness. I'm not sure about this particular hospital visit, but in the very early 60s, Marilyn was admitted into a mental hospital around the time after she finished filming The Misfits.

@walkandt She wasn't aware at the time it was a mental hospital and once she realized it, she wanted to get out immediately because it was one of her biggest fears to be put into that kind of place, but they wouldn't let her, so her exhusband, Joe DiMaggio came and got her and took her away.

But this clip wasn't her getting out of a mental hospital, she had surgery to correct her womb so she could possibly have a child.
