  • Ha

  • The text at the end. HAHAHAHA

  • ther both shit i will beat both of them at same time embarrasment to judo

  • foot sweeps.

    Feels good man.

  • i like judo training but i am not really looking forward to competition . a lucky throw can end the match in seconds and that doesn't thrill me . in wrestling you throw a guy and then you have to bleed to pin him . i love that.

  • @hercmet The idea of judo competition is supposed to be about the spirit of ippon, the single powerful throw that ends a match or fight. Different idea to western wrestling, but not without its beauty, the fact that it can end at any moment from a single technique, is exciting, and scary, though ultimately you should do what suites you best, and you enjoy most.

  • First attempt fails, second attempt he re-shifted opponents weight to the opposite foot and gets it, i digg the foot work as-well.

  • I can't believe what they give ippons for these days. This is why judo is falling behind BJJ, people are winning their fights too easily, they don't do groundwork cos nearly any throw will give an ippon, it is sad, they have completely ruined it, neither of those throws was worth an ippon in my opinion especially the first one

  • @BroomeBlocker4

I don't know what you're smoking, but all 3 were clear ippons.

The first was a decent Ouchi Gari that planted the guy on his back at decent speed. The second was a submission. The third was a perfect counter that planted the opponent straight on his back.

So yeah... couldn't have been an ippon at all.

  • you should watch "okinawa judo tournament" you'll be amazed

  • 2:06 nice leg lock

  • @fellowmercenary its called "lockdown" it is not a submission

  • not alot of room to type here, and it's pretty hard to explain only in words and not in demonstration how to deny you your grip, since everyone has their own way to fight for their grips.

also i don't reconize all those throws, what's Suri Nage?

and the last ones are they variations?

btw what's your dan rank? to have so many tokui waza would indicate you've been doing judo far longer than me, or is that just a list of throws you like?

  • I noticed that you guys don't bow to the referee, btw alot of fundamental flaws in the way you guys fight in, mostly gripping and movements. Basicaly you only wanna move 2 moves in the same direction, the 3rd is very easy to read and if you know where you opponent is moving then a leg sweep is relativly really easy to pull off. Also it's not optimal to get a grip in excange for your opponent to get a grip on you, cos that would be even, best is to try to control the fight with gripping.

  • @Nebuchanezher grip fighting is pathetic and should not be done. hopefully they will make it a penalty soon.

  • @CaptainObfuscation no grip fighting is both essential and awsome, if you just go into a 50 - 50 grip it's either the stronger who wins or whoever screws up first that loses, with gripping alot more tactics/knowledge and experience come into play, if you dominate the grip, then you can totaly relax because they can't throw you, and you get a good shot at ippon or any point, so why the hell would you skip that?

  • @Nebuchanezher I completely understand why you believe that. However it's just not true. Grip fighting is just a modern concept created by those who's techniques werte so lacking that they needed a special grip to make a throw work. If you spent more time learning kuzushi you would find that the grip doesn't matter. When I do judo at shiai I always just hold my arms out parallel to the mat and let the person get the grip they want once they do I throw them.

  • @CaptainObfuscation i'm pretty sure that if they knew what they were doing they would take a grip that would totally deny you any throws, especially your tokui waza, but you don't need to take only my word for you, you can ask any successful competetive judoka, or gripping expert, you should studied some of Jimmy Pedro's DVDs, he was both world and Olympic champion and says basically the same thing i've been here. not that i haven't seen just how effective it is on the mat myself.

  • @Nebuchanezher Jimmy Pedro is not an Olympic Champion. No American has ever been an Olympic Champion. With 67 throws do you really think there is a "Magic" grip that can stop throwing? I personally have 12 tokui waza (Favorite Technique). But for the sake of argument I'll tell you the main throws I do and you explain the grip that defeats them all. Ippon Seoi, Koshi Guruma, Suri Nage, Harai Goshi, Uchi Mata, O Uchi, Ko Soto Gake, De Ashi, Okuri Ashi,Tani Otoshi, Yoko Wakare and Uki Waza.

  • @CaptainObfuscation sorry my bad he was not olympic champion, only got a bronze there, but he was world champion tho.

anyways yes there are grips to deny you from all those thows, btw you cant have 12 tokui waza, cos it means favorite, not favorites.

back to the gripping part, i'm not talking about right hand on right lapel and left on sleeve, more like the tactics to weaken your grip, or even deny you a two hand grip on me, since you need both hands on the opponent to throw him.

  • This is some very polite judo.

  • NICE!

  • Nice ouchi gari. You drive. You ko soto is good as well. Congrats, three matches on a three minute video!

  • more like attack of the Cheetoh

  • ouichi-gari = major inside sweep

Although as done here it's more of a gake/hook.

  • I am not sure that Joel was so good in this tournament rather the other judoka were so bad, ( poor taisabaki and looked nervous) and Joel did do a beautiful textbook ouchigari and deashibarai, nice waza. You could see a growth in confidence in the tournament! How are your sweeps progressing? Did you get much gold?
