anything Yes does is great...but this song is better than any that Howe has done, because Steve can not sing or produce or write...he is a great guitar player
@palmcoast26 C'mon man! Even I love both pre and post Tormato eras equally, you just can't dis Howe by saying that. The man is an institution in and out of YES.
Just be glad that we "post 80's" fans of the band can appreciate the magic and genius of some later protagonists like Billy and Trevor just the same as Chris, Steve, Alan, Jon and Rick
This sounds good to me,I do believe Trevor Rabin would've been a welcomed element on this album because it's a little to throw back to a Steve Howe popular music sound,I didn't like GTR,Steve is a great musician but he has to give up a little more and as bad as he didn't like to collaborate with Rabin Union stands out as one of Yes' best albums and some of the better songs were written by Rabin.
@EBBadd1 Yeah, me too I've wondered how good YES would have been with Sherwood and Rabin at the same time. Before their members start passing away, they need another UNION tour. This time with every single ex member. We, the fans, deserve it.
Oops...forgot TGOD (ouch!), SC (ouch x 2!) and TBO (and no, I haven't got my old vinyls out). They're just examples of beautiful, powerful music of the type that Yes seem to have forgotten about.
End of rant. Peace to all. Have a pint and imagine you're 17 again. :-)
Moreover, music fans listening to 'modern' Yes - as exampled in this thread - will listen to garbage like this and not give a hearing to gems like...well, you know what I'm going to say...
@genyouwin What makes you think that? Are you that self absorbed? Do you think you and your generation are the last ones capable to appreciate good music? Again, what makes you think that way?...THE PROBLEM with some of you "die hard fans", is your incapability to accept the experimentation the band pursued with more modern influences taken from the 80's (OUR TIMES). Get over "that" song, for God's sake! It made you miss your fav band's second half of magnificent existence. Your loss.

Just take in consideration other people's experiences. Yours are not the only one that is important. Like you said "imagine you're 17 again" for me that would be Union tour, ABWH, Big Generator tour (12 yrs) You see what I mean? Just don't be an ass. We're all Yes' fans. And we learned to love their earlier material as much as you, so the least you can do is respect our era of the band as well.
One would have thought that having put away a nice nest egg (financially) from their halcyon days of the 70's, Yes would have had the luxury (of time) to better it (musically), but instead they sidestepped into this tawdry, cornball, 80's claptrap. For the life of me I don't know what happened to the most creative progressive rock band of all time.
Singing about how things are not as they seem to be. People keep doing the same thing, expecting different results. We set the stage before an event occurs. Open Your Eyes, use your imagination, look within yourself, beyond your mind's eye. There is hope, change is going to come, but we have no idea what that will be. Open your eyes and see that everyone is in the same boat...face reality..and then you will see, things are not what you once thought they were. It's wonderful. Show it.
@sponsler The same theme fits in nicely on TALK, "Walls". Tear down the walls, peal off the layers of doubt created by past experience. The more the walls come down, doors open to a newer and refreshing reality as in "Changes"...the more we see the real Truth....there's" No way We Can Lose"
@Lincoln424242 you can't really like Progressive without liking Yes, they're one of the pioneer bands of Progressive Rock FYI. it was Yes, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd who fist started the genre. if you don't like it, then don't listen to it...
@UKGameMaster Why do you hold that opinion?it makes me want to call you ignorant for saying i cannot like a genre becasue i dont like one of the bands?????????
i LOVE pink floyd king crimson genesis and camel, i like jethro tull, dream theater and ELP and Return to Forever and those 3 were NOT the only pioneers, u forget the moody blues frank zappa soft machine supertramp i tried to liste to yes to find more great prog but i just CANT enjoy yes and i am very gratful for bruford join crimson
@philosopher2king well...turn this record on while considering the historic events of 15-10-2011 : doesn't it make a new sense? Veritas vos liberabit!
This was such a great fucking live number... my regret is that they may never play it live again... oh well Yes lives! We Can Fly From Here on tour!!!!
@Lewis1key As long as steve is the Only Guitar.....We will never hear it again as a yes-lite song. But Just Maybe.....others.....Billy has performed this himself...I hope that A.W.R. will be smart enough to enlist the "Master"....and do the song again in studio w/ trevors gtr, and Billy's bass!! The A. W. R. project needs a master like billy......it not....Long live A.W.R. the Yes of 2012 and the Future!!
I want my five minutes back. This song sounds like it was trying to say *something.* Not sure what, though. Was it talking about atheism? It kinda' *felt* like that, but it wasn't nearly as clear as songs such as "Tried" by Assemblage 23. The best songs that make the strongest statements do so effortlessly. "Cutting" by Ayria is an excellent example. "I'm cutting myself because there's no way out. Dispersing what I feel so I feel nothing." That's elegance, and this song don't have it.
Never had a problem with Open Your Eyes. Great advice, too!

Nice song. I like it.
Is Pop Rock? Of course it is.
But smart and well crafted. Besides being played by class A musicians.
