  • Born 09241986

  • a.k.a Debra J. Williams.

  • That got real depressing real fast. Such a sad story.

  • I just noticed a twist, Halle Berry played Dorothy Dandridge , who was the first black woman to be nominated for an Oscar in a leading role, and Halle Berry won the Oscar, who WAS the first black woman to win an Oscar in leading role....

  • SHE WAS GORGEOUSSSSSSSSS.

  • Yeah, so much for the virtues of marriage. Get married and then your koo-koo clock spouse can legally take all your money.

  • its so sad to see such a beautiful and talented woman's life end after such an amazing life. Everything she worked for started to go south and i wish her successful career lasted longer.

  • She was SO BEAUTIFUL, white men wanted her!!!

  • What a legendary actress..no matter what hardships she had to endure!!!

  • Wow she was Beautiful

  • Tonight I watched the movie "Dorothy Dandridge" I think is the title whereby the part of Dorothy is played by the beautiful Halle Berry. I really enjoyed it. It's sad that she died at the early age of 42.

  • Interesting video but wish they wouldn't recycle the images so many times. When talking about her return to the circuit, let's see some pictures of her real return rather than just recycled pics from her youth. Maybe they just didn't have the copyright to them and didn't want to spend the extra money.

  • Keri Hilson did NOT bring me here neither did Halle berry

  • @diamondlovesyuh , No, actually Diana Ross brought me here. :)

  • damn these young ppl, they talkin about they glad keri hilson did pretty girl rock otherwise they wouldnt know who this is, i mean damn yall young, halle berry did her biopic just 10 yrs ago or more, yall cant b that young to not know that, keri hilson shouldnt b the reason yal discovered an african american diamond in our history, she was our marilyn monroe, i can understand never hearin her orginal work, but never hearin about the biopic from 1999, really,

  • @PersonaFresh89 Lol,not all young ppl are like that hon. Just the un-informed young ppl that dont really pay attention to things, lol.

  • @PersonaFresh89 I dont understand people not knowing their history. At least the pioneers

  • @PersonaFresh89 I'd never heard of the biopic myself either.

  • Wow,she was beautiful like Miss Keri

  • janet jackson looks just like dorothy

  • My Cousin DOROTHY DANDRIDGE was the 1st African American on the Cover of LIFE Magazine & also named 1 of 5 most Beautiful Women in the World! She was the 1st Woman on the Cover of EBONY Magazine & more profound accomplishements in a time when America was unkind & unjust! I'm Proud of her & my Client EARL MILLS (her Manager) wrote the Book about DD that became the HBO Movie "starring" HALLE BERRY for more information (Google) POWERFUL PEOPLE and FRIENDS

Ann Dandridge I want to meet EVERYONE.

  • @anndandridge Wow! You are her cousin? Well, did you like how Halle played Dorothy's life?

  • I would say she's beautiful, but that would be an understatement.

  • With all that she has been through in those days. She would be so happy to know 50 something years latter people still adore her pretty and talent . RIP my Beatitul Black Queen

  • I knew about dorothy Back in the 90's when Janet Jackson wanted to play her in a movie but hollywood gave it to Halle Berry.

  • @jacobR1377 and janet actually looked like dorothy.

  • Something's amiss. Dandridge, like, Obama is not black. Has some black hereitage but clearly has the skin tone of a good old fashioned mixed bred human being. I adored following her story and her relationship with anglophile Otto Primenger should be scrutinized but that girl could have been president now if she'd sucked the right you know what. Bless her for never selling out and to hell with the Israeli run luciferian Hollywoood Machine. The Butterfly net AKA Monarch programming.

  • @XxBeJeweledDancerxX um dorothy was black, light skin doesnt make you mixed....black people come in all shades. her father had a white grandparent and thats it.

  • @chiefexecutivelady

Janet Jackson does not look like Dorothy. She's not pretty at all in my opinion. Dorothy is a black woman, however, her paternal grandmother was described by those who knew her as looking completely caucasian. Lookwise, Dorothy took on after her father's side of the family which accounts for her skin tone and facial features.

  • @JadaFan4life I noticed that her mom, in this video, does not have a coarse hair texture like most blacks and Africans. So, I am guessing there may have been Native American blood in Dorothy.

  • @celestialpathway Ummmm, it's possible she used a straightener. Madam CJ Walker had invented those by then.

  • @XxBeJeweledDancerxX She's black she's a cousin of mine it goes way back though. black people do have white ancestry due to slavery though but trust me were blood shes not mixed both parents were black.

  • @missdenisha I'm aware. It was a quasi-facetious comment. Let it go.

  • @XxBeJeweledDancerxX You brought it up, you shouldn't say things unless you know this to be fact

  • I seen a documentary on her played by the great halle Berry so i juz wanted to see the real Dorthy as well....great beloved history R.I.P. Dorthy! she paved the way :)

  • So marvelouse beautiful woman and talantive !

  • Such a beautiful woman!!!!

  • she the peroblem was she really wasnt a smart woman.she made alot of mistakes in her life due to men from her holding out on giving birth and choosing the worst of white men.BUt she loved to be loved and she was the sweetest thing and white men scooped her while some black men were just intmidated by her looks

  • @HERBLANDZ

That was her downfall right there....white men. She turned to the white to hold her down, to keep her and her career alive...but, all they wanted her for was a show piece and sex toy...they didn't give a shit about her.

  • GORGEOUS WOMEN!!!!

  • wow...I'm 21 and I LOVE this woman. Thank you Ms.Dandridge for being a TRUE woman!! I will NEVER forget you! May your legacy lives on!

  • FIVE dislikes??? Come again? What's to be disliked about a well put together photo anthology on a star of the magnitude of Dandridge? The photos speak volumes about this tragedienne. Too bad you five don't understand that.

  • Oh, I was in grade school but I lived through this. I still miss her because she was a matinee idol. Everyone loved her. I need my kleenex now. And I need to check on her dauther Harolyn. Peace.

  • @boomerang905 I wonder if Harold's other children visit her in the home?

  • @MsCardigan1 That is a very good question. I know Harolyn is still alive but it has never been established that the whole family really stuck by her. I hope Harold did. Dorothy was faithful and kind. It's always been pretty much a mystery....seldom, if ever talked about. The Ebony/Jet seemed to write about her now and then ...that's about it. Let's hope we can find out more because I have wondered as well. Peace.

  • @boomerang905 I read the book, some of it anyway and it seemed as if Harold was displeased with having an handicapped child. Really, Ebony/Jet writes about Harolyn? I never caught any issues. I guess she is in her 60's now.

  • @MsCardigan1 When I wrote that I knew that I left out that over the years, particularly in the past, Ebony/Jet would write little things about her. I'm sorry...had to clean that up lol. Those magazines were the mediums to find out things like that. Yes, I knew that Harold was displeased as many people are when things don't go as they want them which is a horrible way to be. I believe that a lot of neediness that Dorothy developed came from her childhood. She was so gorgeous and nice. Peace!

  • @boomerang905 Is Harolyn still alive? I read somwhere that she passed away when she was 60. I don't know how true it is.

  • @AllenTyra Since I don't read much Ebony/Jet like I used to, she may have passed away. I read a blog today and it was filled with so much idiocy, I couldn't take anymore and fled. Instead that question being answered, she was described as a Hermaphrodite. I worked in Medical and things like that are not so easily defined. So, to be honest, who really knows. But before I even got on the Internet it seems that I read something responsible that said she was alive. I hope so! : (

  • Keri Hilson brought me here.

  • Keri Hilson!!! Awesome connection!! =))

  • lord crayola strikes again!

  • She was beautiful within and out with a sad life.

I get tired of everyone speaking on Marilyn Monroe that has been talked about for decades and you never hear them say Dorothy Danridge.

  • @JAQUANATV For that matter, they need to be talking about Josephine Baker because she was the first real superstar.

  • Look at her smile. At first I thought she looke more like janet jackson but She looks alittle like chillie halle berry is BEAUTIFUL.But she dont look like dorothy.but she was the best choice all around.I wish They would make a movie movie about her give another actress a shot. How many times have they had a marilyn movie.mad times theres room for another dorothy movie.

  • she was devastatingly gorgeous and a great talent. i'm only 30, but i love dorothy. i remember watching Carmen Jones for the first time as young girl in the early '90s. before then, i didn't know about her. since then, i've never been able to forget her. who could?

  • She was a talented women but TRUE beauty starts from within!

  • omg. this is my first time hearing about her. i was watching the movie about her with halle berry. since i have a social studies project on a women that had an impact in america, i might as well do dorothy dandrige. she had an impact on me

  • this is truly an amazing woman. just got done watching her movie. i remember like maybe 10 years ago when first came out. i had no idea who she was. I remember janet jackson talking about how amazing she was and now i see why she thought so! though i dont think she died of a drug over dose this was still a nice video

  • She is Halle Berry's idol. I love Dorothy too!!!

  • DOROTHY DANDRIDGE BROUGHT ME HERE.

  • She was truly truly beautiful...Wow the girls today with all the fake ass hair, make up and boobs and plastic...They aint got nothing on these classic beauties!!

  • goddamn, grace kelly is always stealing awards. its annoying

  • I swear To God she is like one of the prettiest women I have ever seen.

  • @AnnaNickiBarb She was :)

  • She looks a lot like janet jackson very beautiful

  • @SirenMarjo a lot of people look like her... janet jackson, Halle Berry,

  • KERI HILSON BROUGTH ME HERE TO :p

  • WOW what a tragic story for such a beautiful lady

  • @MrLeebo123 And beautiful she was. I once saw her in the Beverly Hills restaurant owned by movie star Benson Fong. She was with her then fiance Jack Denison and primping in a mirror as I walked out with my order. So no, that beauty isn't due entirely to a brilliant makeup artist. It was the real thing. One more thing, too. She and her contemporary beauty, Lena Horne, cannot be compared. Both beautiful in their respective but separate ways.

  • Nina Mae McKinney was the first black actress but her career was cut short because of illness.

  • What Wonderful Photos.R.I.P Dorothy Dandridge.

  • Halie Barry and Kim Fields both look like Dorothy Dandridge...

  • So sad. A beautiful woman and a great actress.

  • Oh my GOD!!!

    Is a beautiful woman.

It is amazing that racism ended her life.

  • a great american!

  • Ppl think i look like her and Janet Jackson. I dnt See it tho But I guess im just that pretty!! I have a full face like them... Like Janet antyway BUt love u Dorothy!

  • I LOVE YOU DOROTHY! U WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!

  • 0:20 is what Keri Hilson was portraying to in her video , she did a good job!

  • in some pictures beyonce looks like her alot

  • beyonce looks very like Dorothy Dandridge

  • @KELSIE35 No Beyonce does NOT look like Dorothy Dandridge don't insult Dorothy Dandridge by comparing her to someone like Beyonce!

  • @JordanjamesX Well said! These so called beauties today don't have half the class these classic beauties did...

  • janet jackson favors her a great deal....

  • Im related to her on my dads side from Akron Ohio.

  • she was amazingly B E A U T I F U L

  • It's a shame the way she died. She was young. :(

  • In 0:50, That looks just like Halle Berry.

  • keri hilson brought me here.

i suppose her video has a great cause

  • @kaidose lol me too

  • @kaidose same:D

  • @kaidose SAME

  • @asherknoxx18 ikr sad!!

  • @kaidose Me too! :) If not because of Keri's video, I never get to know her...Thanks Keri :)

  • I'm sad that I wasn't as familiar with her until now after watching Pretty Girl Rock. She was so beautiful, and the end of her life was just quite sad.

  • shes pretty as!!

I did'nt know this lady exist until watching Keri hilson - pretty girl rock

  • @shyislandgurl101 thats sad. she was friends with Marilyn Monroe and overcame so many hardships.U should watch her life story starring halle berry. When beyonce played Carmen a Hip Hop Opera it was a remake of Dorthy Dandridge's Carmen .

  • God Dorothy Dandridge is stunning! I can't believe what she had to go through as a black actress

  • @thewhitepumpkin - Yes it's just you ! why must every thing be put in a way to make the white race fill better about race mixing! besides i have seen ugly white ,black ,asia, spanish, and mulattoes. It all depends on your parent combing the beauty genes!! the way you ask questions i can tell you're ugly on the inside and possible on the out side. Does it make you feel better by putting that question out there? oh yeah check out kenya washington & Iman compared to her husband she a goddess!

  • @thewhitepumpkin no its not true. what is true is that the lighter women get more attention from hollywood.

  • @bunnierabbits PREACH!! that's the truth..messed up but you right!

  • @thewhitepumpkin that was a horrible comment..the only way african american women can be appealing is if there mixed with white..HA!

  • @thewhitepumpkin Do people REALLY use the work "mulatto"? What are you, like 100??? Do you know what that means? Hmmm...I wonder which race is the horse and which race is the donkey?

And for the record, I've seen some KICKED TO THE CURB people with one white parent and one black parent. And I mean KICKED!!

  • @thewhitepumpkin ....yes it's just you ,she was light skinned yes, but her dad was not white..besides like it or not we're all mixed with something.

  • Dorothy Dandridge is still the hottest woman in hollywood. She was underated acter and need to be look at bigger than Marylin Monroe. Dorothy Dandridge was 20 time more beautiful than Marylin Monroe..!

  • What an amazing woman.....I had no ideal she died so young, tragedy!!!

  • What a lovely actress and singer she was. We have countless examples to show that fame and fortune do not bring happiness. Many if not most celebrities end up having nervous breakdowns, becoming drug addicts (either recreation or medical drugs), suffer emotional/mental instability, etc These entertainers do entertain but apparently at a great cost to their own personal happiness.

  • Janet Jackson should have played Ms.Dandrige. Then she was supposed to portray Lena Horne but Ms.Horne was offended by the stupidbowl incident.I know janet wants to do a biopic of a powerful african american iconic women.I think she'll make an excelent Eartha Kitt!

  • the best actress who suffered racial prejudice and racism. Her life was hard. I saw her biopic Introducing Dorothy Dandridge starring Halle Berry. She died from a drug overdose. She was friends with Marilyn Monroe.

  • who is this voiceover and why does he sound so jolly at the announcement of her death like he's doing an ad for gillette?

  • the things women...black women have had to go through...!

  • @BybiGurl1 preach! - and the things we STILL go through to this very day!...

  • classy woman.

  • yes, dorothy was soooo fine and soooo talented...

  • wow she's pretty

  • She paved the way for so many... R.I.P. Dottie.

  • Her mother was NOT attractive at all. She was a very cold hearted person! She and Dorothy's sister were envious so they isolated her out of the family and dorothy felt miserable. What a shame! Dorothy was better than them!

  • Isnt is sad she isnt the film legend and Hollywood Beauty Icon she deserves to be like Marilyn and Katherine...

  • God...this is so sad. She had all the qualities needed to become a a classic Hollywood star. R.I.P.

  • beautiful woman, what a tragic lost

  • I feel bad for Dorothy given the time period she was in I could see why she was a troubled and tragic figure. I think she deserves just as much recognition as Marilyn Monroe.

  • Dorothy Dandridge---the most beautiful woman in the world...What a doll!!! The photo @ 1:31 has always been one of my favorites. No one will ever touch her in class, beauty, talent, or glamour. Dorothy should never have had to put her daughter, Harolyn in a state institution, because her father Harold Nicholas was very rich and famous and could have easily seen to his daughter's care and provided for her. That's what parents who love their children do. DD is timeless!!!!!

  • What a sad life.

  • Good video. :)

  • In the picture shown at 3:35-3:44, she looks very much like Natalie Wood ...something in the eyes & her mouth. She was an extremely beautiful woman but it sounds like her depression was more of a life long situation which caused problems with her relationships.

  • Ms. Dandridge was so beautiful & classy. Im so saddened that her life ended so tragically. RIP

  • thank u for posting this video on dorothy dandridge!

    may God bless you :)

  • Her and Marilyn Monroe were close friends. Its funny how they died the same way.

    Dorothy was a goregous woman.

  • yupp dorothy was sexyyyyyyy

  • Where they really?

  • I mean I know how they died but didn't know they were friends. They got same features and same poses. So I see maybe they were trained by same sort of trainers.

  • @moonitelady I think they knew the same guy and thats how they met

  • Panachereport site has some something I never heard. Check it out.

  • @Every1luvzME

wow you say they were close friends, im trying to search infomation on that but nothings coming up.

It is very ironic they both died the same....and both so beautiful aswel

  • @danzelled1 Yeah its in the movie Dorthy Dandridge... Halle Berry played her... and Dorthy, Marlilyn and Eva were friends. Then I looked it up and its true they were friends and Dorothy and Marilyn use to talk on the phone.

  • What site are you looking at if you would please share. Thank you. I find this very interesting. I find it awesome that they both pose the same.

  • @Every1luvzME she is the black marilyn monroe

  • @lolwtf119 No she is Dorothy Dandridge.

  • @Every1luvzME Thank you Dorothy Dandridge was a better actress than Marilyn Munroe even though there was so much racism in the 1950s it was Dorothy that got the best actress Oscar nomination and NOT Munroe! So let's keep it real Dorothy was the better actress!

  • @Every1luvzME She and Marilyn Monroe were also victims of child abuse her abuser was her mother's lesbian lover. This info came out in the movie done by Haile Berry.
