Actually Hermes is the greek god while Mercurius is the roman god.

Just like there is Neptune, the roman god of the sea and Poseidon is the greek.

It's not that it's the Greek word for mercury... it's just that the Greek god Hermes and the Roman god Mercury are basically the same person (I'm taking a Greek mythology, so...)
