That's very nice performance of Angela, but it seems to be a bit fast. It's a pity she couldn't hit at least E- flat at the end, though in the original score there must be Fb. Anyway brava Angela!

I was a bit surprised Angela did not add it, as she did record the very top notes on her EMI "Casta Diva" CD in the early 2000's. This still is a very nice Bolero in any case.
The BEST in my book ! I love Dessay, Felming, Calas, Anderson, etc, but the overall impression of the Gheorghiu performance is FANTASTIC - lively, playful, technically great and with a good portion of the Calas timbre.
Lovely. Her spinto voice is just right for this aria, and I am in awe of her for the simple reason that she actually has a trill--and not just a muddy one, but a clear, steady thriller of a trill.
I'm not sure about Angela Gheorghiu anymore to be honest. No matter which soprano aria I search and want to listen to, whether is colloratura, spinto, lyric or dramatic, she seems to have either recorded them or sang them in a concert. Some she does well, and others like this one, there is just something about it that doesn't suit her voice or style. So I think she should finally concentrate on what suits her, and not be so greedy when it comes to repertoire.
I completely agree with you. I love Angela and her voice, but sometimes she seems to pick repertoire not so good for her. She's sung either Carmen or Manon from Massenet.
I think singers should concentrate on singing what's best for them.

i concur. i went to go see her in september of last year and while her voice is very beautiful..it was inaudible at times and i was sitting 10th row. Her high notes were good, audible and clear but her mid and chest register were drowned out by the orchestra.
Too much vibrato ! It interferes. At least you can tell the difference between her trill and her vibrato, though. Too often it's impossible to tell the difference.

It's not necessary to take top E in the end of this aria, however, Gheorghiu isn't coloratura ;)
