@miki7you You can do it standing, just go slowly as you get into the extension position because when standing the disc is compressed by gravity and it can take a few moments for it to start shifting forward. If you go too fast, the disc can get "pinched" and cause a sharp pain. Overall the exercise is more effective when done lying down, but standing is better than not doing it at all and is moe practical in a workplace setting.
I do a lot of martial art before injured my lumbar disk. My doctor told me it is severe but I still experience pain extend from from my butt down to both side of my legs. If I do all the exercises, and keep a good posture. Would I be able to go back to martial art after recovery?
Thank you for making the video. I really appreciate your dedications.
@MrArmstrong1990 The more severe the disc problem, the harder it is to predict long-term recovery, but there's still a good chance you'll be able to return to martial arts at some point. Some martial arts are harder on the low back than others. Those that involve a lot throws and falls like judo are pretty hard on the low back, while those that focus more on punches and kicks tend to be easier on the back unless you are doing a lot of full contact sparring or heavy bag work. Good luck!
Would 4 weeks be enough (in most cases) to recover from a disc injury? I'm thinking of cancelling a trip I have in 4 weeks. I don't experience much pain but I don't want to travel with such a delicate condition. What is your opinion?
@ferdo621 Duration of recovery tends to depend on the severity of the problem and how well you take care of it. In most relatively mild cases, 4 weeks is plenty of time to recover if you take god care of yourself. I suggest you use the exercise in my Sciatica Exercises Part 1 video at least a few times daily both for recovery and for daily prevention after the symptoms are gone. If you do the exercises and avoid improper lifting and slouching when you sit, you will probably be fine to travel.
@DrGeorgeBest thank you very much for the quick reply. I'm hoping I can travel and the exercises you explained in your videos have helped me a lot. I haven't been lifting or carrying anything heavy and I don't sit for more than one hour straight and take several breaks to ensure my posture is correct. I'll be seeing a specialist in the coming weeks to see exactly how severe my condition is. I already have an mri and my GP saw it. Thank you again for the answer and for all the helpful videos.
This is very helpful! I posted it on my FaceBook "Sciatica Releif" page for all my users to view. Thx for it-- you are helping so many & will help many more :) ~Jessy
@DrGeorgeBest I really like your videos sir. Thanks for the advice. I also saw you other video of why disc pain changes from one side to the other. My Sciatic pain also changes from one side to the other.
You should recommend kneeling on a pillow. You can do it in the office, it keeps the spine straight and its much better than sitting for sciatica. Its also very comfortable!Hope this helps
I suggest you try the exercise shown on my YouTube Video, "Sciatica Exercises, Part 1". I also suggest you get my free ebook from my website - displayed at the bottom of the screen on the video. Good luck!
