  • This movie is so awesome conceptually it actually gets across some creepy atmosphere despite the amateur, sub teenage Peter Jackson execution of the film itself. It also helped that I was ten the first time I watched this. CGI had not been invented. In other words...get stoned before you watch this!

  • Why do u keep saying that? Hey is this movie on DVD or tape?

  • @7thrank yay. Now i have something to watch tonight.

  • Pretty elaborate stop motion.

  • Wait...who did these effects

  • @Themaniacnextdoor Stop-motion luminaries Jim Dansforth, Dave Allen, and Dennis Muren, among others, contributed to Equinox.

  • It's amazing how the devil is afraid of the little cross but doesn't even seem to care about the larger cross until he flies into the damn thing!

  • where can you find this movie?

  • @Themaniacnextdoor Criterion released it a while back.

  • Adorei!

  • Missing one shot of the "taurus" monster killing Dr. Waterman at the very beginning, although it's milliseconds long.

  • Cryptozoology novel see video book trailer

  • Edited from the Criterion Collection DVD, which contains both versions of the film - THE EQUINOX: A JOURNEY INTO THE SUPERNATURAL (1967) and EQUINOX (1970) - as well as a treasure trove of extras.

  • absolutely amazing, so much soul in this film

  • I told those goddamn hipsters to stay away from the brown acid.

  • It's Herb Tarlik, from WKRP, in the sweater!

  • @PC3900 I realized that at first sight! Too funny!

  • It literally is. I remember now. *chuckle*

  • @PC3900 yes, it is, but he acted under a different name here than he did on wkrp.

  • Oh my gosh! That guy at 4:22 is so useless!

  • That second critter looks like Poggle the Lesser on steroids!

  • This was perfect drive-in movie fodder. Went great with canned margaritas in the ice chest.

  • One of the actors in the film was the brilliant fantasy, horror and science fiction author, Fritz Leiber. This film, for all its lack of polish, is quite wonderful.

  • The model of Minaton is just over 16 inches high about the same size of Talos, and required stiff but at the same time fluid movements.

  • this movie had alot more amusement to it than just stop motion creatures.. i had it on a tape when i was young

  • i saw this on tv once a long long time ago, and i loved it and it scared me. but i couldnt remember what it was for years

  • At 6:21 he looks like Puddy from Seinfeld going to a Devils hockey game.

  • Toonamik:

At 1:20, the creature (which is an approximately foot tall puppet) is combined with the people via the process of rear projection. The puppet is animated on a base in front of a screen. The base was fashioned with miniature foliage to match the terrain in the live-action. Behind the screen, a projected image of the live action footage is advanced one frame at a time as the puppet is animated. The final result is the illusion of creature and live people in the same frame.

  • 1:20 how did he walked on the same place where real people? or this monster is 3metres high plastic ? :D

  • editing, one film overlapped to another.

  • I bet ppl who watched it back then were like: ''OMG it looks like it's real!'' xD

  • The stop motion isn't that good overall, especially on Asmodeus. Dennis Muren and David Allen wasn't it? Overall though, for a low budget movie, this is worth checking out.

  • 0:36 Cool camera

  • I saw this as a kid-still love the stop motion

  • Dennis Muren went on to work on a little low-budget movie called Star Wars.

  • Can someone upload this movie? Plz?

  • My favorite movie of all time. I don't care how bad ass Transformers looks, I love this movie's story and atmosphere. The cross .. the cross!!!

  • This is restored footage from the Criterion Collection DVD of EQUINOX.

  • I have heard about this movie in a book. It sounded interesting ! I'm not disappointed with this video. Thanks for posting. What was the story of the movie ?

  • Your wish is my command... Go check out the video "Pursuit : Stop Motion and Live Action" on my youtube channel. We just produced our first test shot - More, much more, to come in future! :o)

  • ......Also ppl have to realize this movie was made my college students with a very low budget.

  • HAHA, Mike, I have this movie on DVD, there were actually two versions of it, but both pretty identical. Remember when we saw this in the theater and how scary we thought it was? Its so cheesy now lol

  • You have Equinox on dvd? Where'd you get it?

  • The inspiration for Evil Dead, also the demon looks like the monster from Jeepers Creepers.

  • the guy poked the monster with a stick and killed it... wow

  • I really LOVE stopmotion, but the creatures in this movie are really ugly and the animation is terrible. Look at what Willis O'Brien was doing 50 years before, it was way better than this. Yet, if it is really a student movie, well... It's OK! :)

  • is this on vhs or dvd!

  • Ruber suits RULE!!!! But stop motion still great (in some times)

  • Jim was Herb Tarlek from WKRP in Cincinnati.

  • shit the flying thing looks like satan!

  • From the Criterion Collection DVD.

  • Quick, let's throw rocks at it!

  • There is one truly poetic moment in this film - where the girl first sees the distant view of the mysterious castle.

  • Lol @ 7:21

  • AWESOME!

  • you serious..o.O? even the godzilla movies got better made monsters than this and they're from the 50-s..

  • I am serious.

There is nothing wrong at all with stop motion FX.

They are better than CGI, IMHO, which many people bug me about, but stop motion just appeals to me way more and has something more impossible and magical and really fantasy-like about it.

  • @bexgh666 Keep in mind this was made in the 60's with almost no money, by college kids for fun.

  • Don't you have any clips of my hero, Mr.Asmodeus?

  • When they aired this film on AMC,I knew they've cut some parts out

  • @weprin2 Most of this is taken from the original 1967 cut, available on the Criterion DVD. Jack Harris and Jack Woods are "they" who cut anything out for the 1970 version.

  • I saw this movie many times as a child, but only on a B&W TV so I never knew it was not only in color, but a newer film. I thought it was a late 50's early 60's horror movie so I never found it in any of my movie searches. Thank you for posting this.

  • so cheesie!!!

  • will the Star of David work?

  • Maybe. If that pagan thing worked as well as a cross...

  • What about a Metatron Cube?

  • LOL! :D

  • Glad you understood my humor ;)

  • I love stop-motion animation! This movie looks like a hoot and a half. And that top the girl with her hair up was wearing looks like it was borrowed from an early Star Trek episode.

  • My parents showed this to me when I was 6...freaked me the hell out.

Nice to see that I was being an overly dramatic little prude.

  • Amazing FX work for the budget they had. Little wonder they all went on to have such an influence in the industry. Thanks for posting.

  • lol. That's a really cheesy movie, but the animation is nice. lol.

  • Haha, tentacles.

  • This film is in the Criterion Collection...

  • HA HA!!! You can see the cameraman's foot as he's running and shooting at 7:52 ~ Peter

  • Hey ... is that Marijuana growing underneath Jim (at 4:09) as he is about to fall off the cliff? lol ... I saw this as a teenager in high school. It was great fun then and even more fun now. ~ Peter

  • LMAO, I noticed that too, thats why this movie is so trippy

  • It's too qeer for me :P especially this devil.

  • this animation is still cool and i loved it as a kid.

  • Dude it wasn't a home movie. It was a student film from 1967, and then Jack H. Harris saw this film due to the special effects and he gave in some new scenes plus a theatrical release.

Pretty good for a student film, and like you said, it is a pretty bad for a professional film. The same goes to John Carpenter's DARK STAR (1974).

  • If you can get past the cheesiness, it's kinda fun. Keeping in mind that it is a low/no budget student film.

And DARK STAR was a blast.

  • Just so you know, the people who made this went on to create some of not just the best stop motion ever for film, but also contributed to some of the best special effects of any technique in terms of film.

  • this is amazing!, anyone know were i can get a torrent to download this??

thanks for putting this so much!

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

  • The creatures would have been so much more effective if ANY OF THESE IDIOTS COULD ACT!!!!!!!

  • Oh my god! Thank you for uploading this!
