  • Love the soul of his voice!

  • to day is January 19th.Happy Birthday David Ruffin. You are and always will be my favourite Temptation.I loved his smooth voice.

  • This must have been when Eddie and David formed their own group

  • Soul Deep!!! Gotta Love it - David Ruffin is my favorite singer - The Temps are my Favorite group - Respect to Eddie & Dennis!!!

  • Amazing group!

  • EDDIE, DAVID THEN DENNIS

    EDDIE, DAVID THEN MELVIN

OH HECK ALL OF THEM HAVE THE BEST VOICE!!

  • stop arguing PEOPLE / everybody's got their OPINION / and everybody's OPINION is TRUE FOR THEM / MY OPINION WILL REMAIN TRUE FOR ME IRREP

  • a beautiful performance of a truly memorable song / like "MY GIRL" / " EVERYTHINGS COMING UP LOVE " / " WALK AWAY FROM LOVE " / " I WISH IT WOULD RAIN " is David Ruffin's song!

  • Thank you Soul Brother, this music will never die - its classic, love it...

  • Nice!!!!!

  • Three Greats From The Temps

  • Dennis voice was great for the transition that the Temptations were going through and the change over was perfect for the 70's and the new sound. He and David both had their own sound and styles and both were great lead singers

  • Is that Ray Manzarek on keys at the very beginning?

  • thank you for these videous of one of the best Motwon groups ever. l play this song where it does rain. Dave Ruffin what a class act.

  • great loses to real music, Eddie,David, where two true great voices that will never die!!!!

  • In A David Ruffin voice i made yall asses lol but Eddie and David was always my favs i also like Pauls swagg

  • @MsARichel lol aint nobody comin to see you otis

  • wow.....david really looked a mess towards the end......when he was younger a more drug free he coulda got the business

  • Maybe im biased but I think the best years of the Temps when they had David Ruffin, that man had a strong but yet smooth preacher voice! Im only 26 but that music is timeless, I compared a live performance to when they recorded in the studio and it sound just alike, pure raw talent!

  • @artiium21 True Davids voice was a joy but follow the temps and see what an amazing amount of truely gifted people have proudly contributed thier talents to the temps over many many years .Years I and many others have had the great privelidge to share . So welcome to the fold and enjoy a legacy of amazing performances .

  • @artiium21 No doubt the originals are the best. But David's a shell here. You can hear the voice but it was so strong he was so smooth. I'm 53 and he's even a little before me, but you look at the early videos, man he could move and sing.

  • what a voice

  • what the hell mr.ruffin. what the hell happen to dat alfro of yours. all respect but you look like my grandpa.lol. haha

  • Great Tribute,

David, Eddie & Dennis what a great triumphant. I defy anybody to tell me that Eddie Cain of the 5 Heartbeats was not David Ruffin. The Dells my butt. I love that movie though.

  • David was the best so was paul Eddie and maybe I will give you Otis as he kept the group together sorry Dennis you don't belong

  • @georgerestivo

What do you mean the Dennis don't belong. You are crazy. Dennis wasn't one of the classic Temptations, but it was with Dennis singing lead that they won their first Grammy. You have to have been a part of a group 25 years after your first record to be inducted in the hall of fame, but because of his significance and major contribution to the Temptations, Dennis was the only one inducted in the hall of fame with the classic Temptations. And that says it all!

  • Those glasses rock!

  • Man,my grass is dieing and I can only water on Thursday & Saturday at 5 pm and thats not enough.I just wish it would rain.

  • Does anyone know if this show is available on DVD?

  • @justinsteward: It's too bad you have to show the world what a MAJOR DUMBASS you are. Not only are you past RUDE, you can't READ or make complete sentences.

Get yourself busy and learn something at 32 years old!

  • @justinsteward: It's too bad you have to show the world what a MAJOR DUMBASS you are. Not only are you past RUDE, you can't READ or make complete sentences.

  • "Infuckingcrdible!!! This is top shelf! R.I.P. Mr. Ruffin.

  • 3 OF THE BEST SOUL VOICES EVER

  • have to say marvin gaye and david ruffin were the greatest

  • ruffin is the best there will ever be. period.

  • i agree with Willie Scott.. Otis should have helped his comrade he knew Griffin was in trouble.. (drugs) booze women .. there were egos' and you can;t see whats in the heart of a man. You can see his mind but the heart is treacherous and evil, and we don;t often let people see that deep into our souls. As the good book says the heart is treacherous and only god knows whats in it not man..

  • Even right up to the end David Ruffin still had that breathtaking voice!

  • Simply the best, David Ruffin.

  • DAVID RUFFIN WAS THE GREATEST DAVID RUFFIN FOREVER

  • Simply put: The Voices. These three men comprised the "Sound" of the Temptations and it's a treat to see all three on stage together. Dennis Edwards bellowed out as many hits as David Ruffin and there isn't much difference in the greatness of their individual sounds. But if I had to pick the best between the two, I must select Ruffin. Go back and listen to the great tracks of both men. Ruffin's sound exudes a natural passion and sadness that is peerless. He just communicates so much more.

  • ilove the voice´s david ruffin, no doubt, the best singer of the fab temptations, cause denisse, didnt, bad, but david ruffin he was the man!

  • david ruffin probably one of the greatest but most underrated singers ever

  • @lilpims21 WRONG

  • I feel like this song right now!!!!

  • @AWUNN1 It'll go away in about 2 years. sorry

  • so David and Eddie truly were the voices.............

  • @tunikwa1

You better believe David, Eddie, Melvin, and Paul and even Otis as a good harmonizer. They were truly the voices. If Otis was thinking back then he would have insisted David get help for his drug problem.

  • Dude, those glasses ...I must get those glasses.

Is there a heaven for David Ruffin? Let's hope so.

  • Happy Birthday to David Ruffin!

  • what simple ass could not enjoy this . this is real music !

  • @MrBlackrain1022 Amen!

  • David had a unique voice that has never been repeated though his life may not have been perfect none of us is....RIP "David."

  • ACHO QUE ESSA TURMA CONTINUA CANTANDO POR AÍ(OS QUE PARTIRAM DESSA) ESSES CARAS NUNCA MORREM,SERIA UM DESPERDÍCIO....

  • @Jamboccf Most of us read English, leave a comment in English!

  • Who is the third guy on the front mic with Eddie & David... is it Dennis? He looks like Dennis Edwards.

  • @ondgo2Terry It is Dennis.

  • @ondgo2Terry Yeah that's Dennis Edwards--he's eating one too many chicken wings--hahahaha

  • u can hear pure soul from David voice..all the drama in his life is released in his music

  • Hi Jan, Thank you for standing of for David ,it is a shame that people comet to the pages are on and complain about him and his music. Well Sis , it doesn't makvidlook bad , it makes the person look bad ,they make thenselves look bad,why wait for a person to die to defame there character??give me a break RUFF FANS FOR LIFE

  • i love the temps

  • Ruffin, easily the best voice EVER!

  • @detra75 Yep....I will second that born in 1968 but grew up listening to his music thanks Mom and Dad......

  • Pure genius: David Ruffin at his best, singing Norman Whitfield at his best.

  • @temptsfan2 sorry but Rodger penzenbene wrote this

  • if you go to david ruffin and eddie kendricks you can get the full video of this perfromance 1st type in david ruffin and eddie kendricks then go to a video 7th or 8th one

  • thats whats missing in my generation

  • Sing David! Real music.

  • David Was the BEST EVER, PERIOD!!!!!!

  • @bpolk80 In your opinion

  • David Ruffin. loved his voice now this is what i call music unlike now a days music

  • My GOD, Ruffin had such an awesome voice. It is a shame how drugs and alcohol could destroy the most beautiful things in life.

  • Even on drugs this man blows aways everybody today except maybe Maxwell. I love old school, but Maxwell is the real deal.

  • God bless you thank you for your music.

  • Yes, David Ruffin was a once-in-a-lifetime gift from God! But he also had the greatest supporting cast! Check out the team-spirit attitudes and utmost dedication of Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards! They were also very talented (with no big egos!)---yet they stuck with David until the very end! Like the Bible says, it's so wonderful and beautiful when brothers/family/etc dwell together in unity! God Bless Them All---What a Team!!!

  • yea david deserved a big ego and i wouldnt call eddie a supporting cast member he was leads on a ton of songs so was dennis. these 3 led the best of the temp songs missing only paul williams

  • Hall & Oates said they think David"s voice got better as he got older i argee with them

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a special person he was. He had all the troubles we all cope with every day, But more like myself and many of us we had more to cope with then others. God Bless him and all of us in the word.

  • I could not have said it any better wow this brother is so talented I really did not know just how much until now.......

  • love it!!

Goes to show you that EVERYTHING changes.. but some things simply should not!

For this here was real music! I wish to God I had been a 60s or 70's baby..

  • they are all cool :).i miss songs like these but i watch a lot of great videos so its ok lol.

  • What a fantastic performance from the legend that is David Ruffin, he still had the voice even after the ravages of long term drug abuse, RIP the master.

  • Now this has to be his best proformace he song this so great

  • God thank you for blessing us with David Ruffin! I love to hear him just as much today as I did back in the day! Rest In Peace Papi!

  • Where is that old clip from that plays at 1:31?

  • @sharrell86 i think hes singing my girl idk

  • plz good to jarod romain- they way i feel. its a nice r and b song

  • Agreed - his talent was extraordinary.....When he sang, you felt EVERY word!

  • amazing group....... I worked this out on guitar and sang my own rendition please view it and comment

    I would appreciate the input

  • SMOOTH SILK AND FINE AS WINE. David Ruffin music will never die, there will never be another voice like his. The great late David Ruffin, we miss you, we miss you, we miss you, love you forever.

  • nobody could touch Ruff

  • SMOOTH AS SILK! ! ...........JUST BEAUTIFUL!

  • Nobody indeed can toudh or reach the level of David Ruffin so sorry he had to deal with what ever drove him to the levels of addiction. But we all have our cross to bear. So many things back then was just not cool, to deal with. Even with that said I love David and Eddie forever, no can do it like you David or Eddie. And no one can fo like you David my sweet chocolate baby. Oh wait let me say David you look so good in that suit.

  • @OriginalTemptations I mean no one do it like David and Eddie for real and no doubt

  • You need to be careful as to what you say and to whom you say it to, Name calling such as trick,Why would you do it privately? Are you a coward. I am glad my sons know you ,move on with extreme caution. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think it was David Ruffin that married this big fat white girl & lived around the corner from me in Brooklyn.lol He lived on 22nd st. between Foster Ave. & Newkirk Rd.

She was as big as a house & he was in his prime.WHY he was there i have no idea.It wasn't a bad area but shit he was a TEMPTATION and it was about 1965-67.

So they were BIG TIME FAMOUS. LOL BTW- RIP Ollie

  • @U4Know2 Age has nothin to do with it...The boy sknows his shit, That's all that matters

  • @U4Know2 what that have to do w david ruffin u ass

  • Not to be a jerk, but it also reached out and gave him cocaine

  • @TheBigBarros Being the JERK that you are, you mean to tell me that David is the only one that has been on drugs, It's not about the drugs it's about his music that he left us, and the impact that he had on the music industry. If you dislike him and you must, then stop listening to his music . The man has left us something that will never ever be duplicated, you should live so long.

  • @U4Know2

    Amen bro

  • @U4Know2 very well said.!

  • @U4Know2 now its 20 years.

  • This is some absolute/incredible footage!! Anyone know the year it was taped?? Also looking for 85 Live Aid performance (Ruffin/Kendricks)....Thank You for posting/sharing!!

  • man i miss david ruffin he was my favorite temptation it's a shame for me that i'll never see him in concert he died when i was just born

  • Oh my goodness the voices on these men, awesome

  • What a unique voice to bad things went like they did.RIP Eddie!!!!

  • Amazing voice...

  • Oh bring back this great music!!! There's nothing even close to this today!!! (yo yo yo....know what I'm sayin'? yo yo yo).....

  • @canrockfan I totally understand what you are saying, I recently heard Sinbad doing his act on TV, and he was talking to a kid of 17, introducing him to something that he could tell his kids about someday, it's called music, and showed him what instruments were, I would have laughed if it wasn't so sad....Lady L.

  • I will always hear David Ruffin when it comes to the Temptations. Loved his voice.

  • cool

  • Such a loss.......

  • how i wish it would rain

  • otis picked the best guys out thee i still cnt believe their gone theyy will be missed and remembered forever in the stiches in time u cant kill the greats

  • Dennis was on crack but the only way you could tell is his jaw crack aka blow aka nose candy aka tricky drug

  • And you can visibly see david is on that shyt but listen to em man!

  • These three are my favorite temptations. If Paul would of been there it would of been magic. This is also my favorite temp song. Love it, love it.

  • this is one of the things that i like about david ruffin but why does he always do that thing with his hands in most songs. He looks likes something flying into his face

  • 伟大

  • David Ruffin has a beautiffully magical voice.

  • MAKE NTHAT RIGHT

  • GUY ON LEFT BECAME LEADER

  • i love david..he was a hot mess but had a magical voice men would pay for its a couple sistas that can still blow but men with this voice..i dont think so.

  • 2:09-2:11 David cracks. too funny

  • what ae you talking about

  • @MrYoungro2 I'm glad you asked!!! To crack, vocally speaking, is to hit a note off key from the one you intended to hit. Makes the very sound heard in this segment. You can also hit the note but not maintain it and get an "air" sound. Try it, Mr. Youngro2!! You too can "crack". Think of an outrageously high note that you're sure you can't hit and go for it. You may succeed or you may "crack". Either way let me know how that turns out.

  • Of course nothing can recapture the magic of when The Classic Five were together, but David, Eddie and Dennis stiil sounded pretty good. And David was such an big figure from the earlier Temptations until anytime that he performed, his presence alone was captivating. It still bothers me when I think about how the greatest lineup ever, The Classic Five, one by one (except for Otis), fell apart from the group and met early deaths due to personal issues or illness... The greats gone too soon!

  • i think they sounded better in the sixties and seventies. in the eighties and nineties they sound like a shell of their former selves. They still were able to sing, kinda like Whitney Houston now. And the reason they couldn't put together solid careers after the temptation is no doubt lack of discipline and we all know addiction is the main factor in that.

  • I love them all, but Eddie is my favorite.

  • WOW! The legendary David Ruffin! There will never be another.

  • love those glasses. they guy that played david in the movie was really cute good actor.

  • That is because it heart was really into it, but if you listen to his last interview in the UK he said he felt close to God and to use your talents to the best of their ability, rumor is he took no drugs on this tour

    Diana

  • Aftrward he did. he binged (used a shitload of drugs because he hadnt had any for the longest time) a typical addicts behavior and sadly he died of an overdoes

  • I met this David in 1980 last time I saw him was 1990,do you know where he was that week was he looking for someone ?. Some reports say he was already DOA others say he died about an hour later. I am an ex drug addict I used from 11 to 22 and have been clean for almost 30 years. I don't think any less of David because he had a drug addict than someone who doesn;t as I believe addiction is part of human nature: sex, alcohol, ciggarettes, caffeine, sugar, tv whatever it is.

    Diana

  • yeah your right. its not the drugs that make people talk badly about him its the attitude that he broughtto the group. he was an amazing performer tough.

  • just flawless

  • TO ME DAVID GOT BETTER WITH AGE - HE SANG A WHOLE LOT BETTER IN THE 80'S AND 90'S THAN HE DID IN THE 60'S. This performance just take my breath away. I love Sweet Eddie.

  • same here

  • the best singer ever the king davis eli ruffin

  • I HATE COCAINE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im 23 but loveeeeee the temptations love melvin eddie and otis and paul love david to but he thought he was better then the rest of them, but all of them were good in there own way.also love the movie they made about them they picked out really good actors i always have to watch it when it comes on.love it.

  • I do remember the first time that I went to see them live,at the Westbury musice fair in 1966.They were so fantist

  • I don't care how good they sounded, without Melvin, Otis and Paul, they aren't the Temptations. Former Tmptations, or Ex-Temptations maybe, but not The Temptations.

  • I half agree with you. They are not, by any means the temptations...at the time this was made, the Temptations were Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Melvin Franklin, Richard Street, and Ali Woodson.

These guys left the group called the temptations...so they cannot be that same group. However, As Otis and others say, Once a temptation, always a temptation...so they still get to have the title of being Temptations...but they aren't THE temptations.

  • Comment removed

  • They are individually all Temptations...but the three of them cannot make up the group the temptations. those guys all have or had what it took, and what it takes to be temptations..and they are legends. But to call whatever group they start after leaving the temps The Temptations...is not fair the group that continued without them. thats my only point, not ragging on Ruffin Kendrick or Edwards, those guys are amazing, and legends.

  • daaamnn david!

  • I wouldn't say that David was 'by far' the best Temptation...I would say...(best lead singer for the group) but...who could sing a bass like Melvin? Who as smooth and could sing a falsetto like Eddie? Who had charisma like Paul and could sing his baritone, or choreograph like him? Who could keep it together like Otis? The true 'leader of the group. They needed each other in order to be "The Temptations" Many years ago They were dubbed as "The Classic 5" No other group like them ever.

  • wat bout David

  • I disagree somewhat on David being the best because his voice really was amazing, but you are absolutely right. The Temptations are arguably the greatest vocal group to ever walk the face of the Earth.

  • I'm alone in my room..it's a BAD situation!!

  • Let it rain to disguise the tears in my eyes...He WAS the voice of the tempts!! seems like this song is about him

  • ONE OF DAVID'S BEST PERFORMANCES -to bad shortly after this performance he passed away.

  • wow they all seem ageless, like they couldnt grow old, the originals im saying, hard to believe most of them are gone, R.I.P. David, Edie, Paul, Melvin

  • David had a VOICE on him!! The first temptations were awsome. With david, and eddie, and melvin, otis, and paul!!! WOW they were a super great team. I wish they could have stayed together!! Well everything happens for a reason i suppose!!

  • that dude couldv been on drugs, but I tell you what he could support it with that voice. Everybody got vices, I would never judge anyone cuz I never walked in their shoes.

  • You can find backup singers a dime a dozen!! But a voice like Davids, 1 In infinity!!! There no I in Team, But this is the acception to that worned out saying!!! Done!!!!

  • Those glasses are on point. He looks like Huggie Bear (not the Snoop version) a little bit.

  • just magic

  • luv them

  • Damn David Ruffin could sing....One of the finest ever.

  • David Ruffin was the SH**! Love that voice. To bad he went out like that..... what a waste!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I read the article and it actually says crack cocaine. I read something different in another biography. However, I'll admit when I'm wrong. When did I become Mr. Dark? Are you being and ignorant racist again Mr. Poop? You stop that! You're better than that. Or are you? Did you know many "white" entertainers died from drug overdoses too? Maybe you should go on their pages and taint their memory by bashing them because of their addictions. It's only fair. Must be only fun if they're black. Hmmmm

  • "Without David Ruffin you ain't nothin'!!"
