I remember seeing this flick in 1969 after some hippie chicks told me about the machines in the movie. The stars and bars Panhead certainly represented young America in the 1960s. Beautiful machines. Still, this flick wasn't all that great (with the notable exceptions of Kovac's cinematography and locale (Monument Valley).
favorite part: when it says "head out on the highway!" and you see peter fonda smile and just look so free and happy. This always makes me wanna just drive and drive and drive with the wind in my hair!
@davehutchinson67 well hold up a second. there's a lot of different types of people out there, they're not all just assholes. There's still cool bikers. And back then there was a whole lot of asshole bikers too---just look at the hells angels at Altamont in '69 for instance.
This movie stands on its own for what it is - ti was an exciting time for a young person. It's easy for me to say that because I was too young for the vietnam war but old enough to strart noticing the girls and just a few yrs away from getting a drivers license. I sound antiquated but this time period was a wonderful time to be growning up. Thanks for the vieo - good times
Time doesnt matter if you got a Harley and a crap load of cash, and the hwy is your friend, the only thing that can beat that is one very beautiful woman to ride along on the back of the Harley.
Indeed. "Time doesn't matter" ... any longer. By throwing away his watch, he makes his first step towards freedom, that small piece of machinery on our arm can turn into a heavy shackles.

A little history behind the bikes and the movie are in Peter Fonda's autobiography, "Don't Tell Dad."

@mickeymousebiker1 Agreed, Marvelous stories he tells in the book, I only wish the extra footage Hopper shot still existed.

Ironic that America, once the greatest Country in the world, was built on freedom.
Now it revolves around jealousy and consumerism.
