  • Two reasons I dislike this video

    1) It looks nothing like pandora, just a forest with a few glowing shrooms.

    2) Your frame rate is horrible. People should record if they have a strong enough computer.

  • @Keyeszx48 Don't be so rude. It's people like you who knock people from doing what they love. It may not look like Pandora, but he has still put the effort in to try and make something look good. He is learning and possibly will one day become a level designer if that's his passion. If you give criticism, make sure you give it constructively!

  • @mattyovers1 I could have put more detail into the first reason and given some constructive criticism, you're right. But the second reason I stand by fully. It would have been better to put up screenshots and post them on forums and see how people responded to them instead of a choppy video.

  • @thenishanth420 Why!!! it is not worth an effort to do a lot of work in the engine not capable of rendering Avatar movie quality avatar like scene. I am not discouraging him. He just should use better engine, because his creation does not refelct richness of avatar jungle environment. Trying to do this would kill engine. Do something that is excellent and outstanding and use top quality tools if necessary. Cryengine would handle this better.

  • I think, u can du it better. Make more foliage and do better textures.

  • Not worth a sh!t!!! Avatar movie had at least 10x denser foliage and a sh!t load of light emmiting surfaces.

  • Objectives are done in UDK's kismet, rightclick, new message etc. But you have to toggle it, if true-if false, whatever you need for the job. I made the models in 3d Studiomax, but any other 3d modeling program should work.

  • @kartog22 Maybe a week or two, and not the whole day, the light takes up most of the time. And browsing forums on how the make the messages, watch the 3dbuzz video's on kismet etcetc

  • You should drop down the fog, add more folliage, and check the poly count on some things (the level looks kinda choopy with framerates) and get learning with creating new weapons and custom characters! :D You could create a deco mesh brush for the terrain and make grass in a swap.

  • @krotanah5 I used the green fog because the giant leaves are blocking the sun. I didnt use custom weapons/characters because you don't see any of them in the video. If I use a mesh for the terrain it won't have any collision, so the player will fall through it, and I like it when you can walk all over the level, and I cant use decolayers on the terrainmaterial. And I found a way to make some decent grass now, but it's not in this video. I am planning on making a game soon, I'll use your tips:-)

  • Very nice! I would ad some more grass or grass-like texture, because the level isn't as lush green as in the movie. But really, nice job!

  • @feeble2009 It's more suitable for fps, but you can make a topdown (isometric view), I guess if you are good at scripting you could make a rts, but it won't be easy.

  • I take back the glowing plant comment. I see a little texture but you need to emphasize it more.

  • its good but I wouldn't consider it finished. In Avatar there was so much foliage that you couldn't see the ground. Somehow you need to come up with a way to do that. Even a foliage type texture would help but not make it cutting edge. Also there were more glowing plants. The plants in this were just a really bright color, they had no real texture to them. You got the basics but you want an environment where people don't need to read the title to tell what universe this is taking place in.

  • Is that the refresh rate of the map in-game? Or was it just because you were recording? Cause honestly although it looks pretty, it it actually runs like that we need to add in some visual falloff, otherwise it's not going to work particularly well as a game.

  • for me is hard but not for map making (at least if you want kismet and all that triggerish stuff )

  • @narutodamp No it's quite easy I think, I don't know really I have been working for quite a while with Unreal Engine. It's more like a drag and drop programm, just make sure you know the basics, like making a room add a few lights, a playerstart , weapons etcetc and you are ready to go. Try to find some video's and tutorials about it.. the internet is full of it.. Good Luck :-)

  • Not familiar with the limitations of the UDK, but the only thing I noticed was that the color scheme seems to tend toward the dull side. Could just be the engine itself, though - I know that in Mass Effect, the closest they were able to get to vibrancy in their color scheme was by throwing really bright lights in. A bit too much post-processing, maybe? Or just some timidness with the color work?

    Otherwise, really good though.

  • @haakonVII On the maintoolbar click View/Worldproperties/Worldinfo and check the box behind "No default inventory for player". And if you want the HUD to dissapear to use the console command " showhud"

  • this is great i love how you went and the direction you took to create this. A;though i must make some suggestions, try and saturate to colours more and have some more ambient ligting for the details, cos it just looks a tad dark. also pump up the view distance to make it looks much more epic. i hope this helps. and again great work =D

  • Hate to be a critic, but the only part you could possibly improve on is the "swimming" part. You seem to have a blurred / blue camera vision while the camera is above water level.

    Other than that, very nice.

  • I think that is an engine error, not the designer error.

    Although I did like the idea, the map was very dark and closed in. The world of Pandora is a massive wonder and depictions of it should really capture that aspect. I understand that the unreal engine is not capable for large persistent worlds, but their are other ways to create the illusion. I'm not the one to ask though haha.

  • I made a 3 seconds delay, from the moment you come out of the water, so when you're exactly on the water level, you go up and down, but to short to fade out the blur. Let's say there is still some water in your eyes :-)

  • good work, we make a game with similiar plants all drawn by hand and in Blender check my work you will see ... give 4 Stars for your work you get the last if there are updates of it keep it up

  • more plants...well i know its much work we are extremly working on this so there is a wide range of sorts of plants....i think your level needs more like a big massive Jungle ;-P
