@madamimadamimadam wow, his vocals sound really deep even for this being Gilmour only in the late 70's, it almost sounds like he's screaming into the mic just to get to the level of being audible
@luxiniv320 I believe he was a fairly heavy smoker at the time, which I imagine can't have helped. His voice is always slightly huskier when he sings live, but this is a pretty raw, gravelly cut. It might just be the recording equipment distorting his voice though; audio equipment has gotten a lot better in the past 40 years.

@gilmourguitar123 And the 1972 version, which was played live a year before Darkside was even released, is by far the best live version iv'e heard. It's really gritty and dark. Look up PinkPigSheep1977 on youtube, he has EVERYTHING live from 1968-1979 in great quality!
Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
I saw Pink Floyd @ Madison Square Garden 1978 Animal concert, they were amazing! I was 21 or 22 at that time I went with a co-worker buddy of mine (Frank), I remember a lot of smoke in the air and the floating pig balloons and huge screen behind the band. Best concert ever!!!!
@AlexBadsmile it sure was, i was 16 in '77 and was at this show at madison sq. garden on 7/2/77 with my 18 yr old brother, it blew our young fuckin minds!!!! we got so stoned on the ride into the city from long island, then got to the garden, drank some beer and saw one of the best concerts of my life!!! the only one better was seeing zeppelin one month earlier on 6/7/77, that was the greatest concert of my life, the song remains the same!!!!! ROCK ON!!!
@jroxx11211 Gawddamned lucky MoFo! I hadda wait 'till '95 to see them live and Roger wasn't there?! And Zep? One of the things in life I regret most = never seeing them live at all. I dunno. Now I feel sad somehow. Bummer. Anyway, rock on!
@PhiZappaCrappa thanks bro, i see your a frank fan, i got to see one of his famous halloween shows at the palladium in '78, the yr after seeing floyd, it was a great time in NYC in the 70s, every other week was a killer show, and i tried to see them all!!! ROCK ON!
My only hope is that all the people there realized they were witnessing genius in action. I am jealous of anyone who was able to see Floyd in their heyday. I saw them once in 94, and it was the greatest concert I've ever seen (with Tool being the only thing even close). Hurray for all of us in appreciating these freaking geniuses.
unless you were sitting sound board, it would be really hard to record a Quad mix....i sat on the floor for a few floyd shows, they'd do figure 8's of sound, fwd/rev etc...plus sound pushes all over...plus,,,they could almost crack the ground with Bass...
volume swelling = quad sound? My father was at a 77 gig in Berlin, and the first thing he told me about this (even before I was interested in music, as a kid) was, that this band could let fly a plane all around the arena^^ sourroundsound in a stadium must be unreal... even today nothing usual. they are just the best, no discussion.
@Silber7 Yeah, they built a quad system for their live sound. They also built little joystick controllers for things like the plane where they could control it moving around the whole stadium. Best innovators of the whole music experience. First to use a loop to record this song as well. They recorded the cash register and made a tape loop and ran it through the tape machine to play to it.
@ryhorn77 Someone "could" do something similar. There is just nobody good enough or intelligent enough (of both mind and heart) to do it. And in these worthless times, it ain't gonna happen.
DG's jam... with the super sonic bluesy undertones: pure blissss - pure heaven. I can die happy now I have heard this. THANK YOU mrbending22 and thank you David.
@obscuredbyclouds17 yeh there is, 'Ummugumma' its utter bullshit. My Dad has been a huge floyd fan since they came on the scene and even he says 'Ummagumma is shit, and the worst he's ever heard by any band
@TaylorMayed07 Floyd themselves have mentioned they're not impressed by that album eaither, how ever it dose have some good tracks, but its more for the indulged mind, nothing like tripping your stoned friends out with "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" blows em away everytime. however Wrights contributions are wonderfuly composed if u spend the time to appreciate em.
@TaylorMayed07 Granchester Meadows is so beautiful - it reminds me of a summerday fishing in a river here in Denmark. And what about the live part of Ummagumma? There is a great version of CWTAE...
Awesome what a great concert! I saw this show in 1977 in the Superdome in New Orleans!

@gilmourguitar123 David does indeed sound badass, but this is a bootleg from the Animals tour, not the Dark Side tour.
