  • Inglorious Bastards > The hurt Lucker > High School Musical > Avatar

  • I thought The Hurt Locker was just an average film, good but not that special!

  • The Hurt Locker is friggin awesome

  • rightfully wins

  • avatar shudda won not the crap locker

  • Look at Jeremy Renner (1:12). So cute :-)

  • avatar had a weak plotline, really bad lines and names like unobtanium, hurt locker totally deserved it

  • @samsung54369 i completely agree!!! the effects were good but other than that avatar really wasnt that great. i agree lines were cliche and kinda boring. acting was generally pretty good apart from sam worthington.. sorry. and i dunno whether anyones seen the film ferngully but its pretty much the same as avatar so its hardly original plot either..

  • the hoffs such a short arse

  • Firstly, Mark Boal and Jason Reitman were clearly seperated at birth and secondly, am I the only person alive who loved both The Hurt Locker AND Avatar? Out of 100 I have both films on 98... Everyone else seems to love one loath the other. Ridiculous. Completely different films. Both majestic in their own way. Well done Bigelow! Bullock winning was a joke.

  • moon where the fuck is moon o.o

  • I think it was a joke! Best worse movie ever!

  • All ya'll are wrong, Inglourius Basterds was the best picture.

  • AVATAR IS OVERRATED, and you fanboys need to accept that!!

  • Anyways, it was a hell of a thrill although I would have probably enjoyed it more if I wasn't sitting next to Darth Vader in the cinema. (The arse had a blocked nose and had to breath with his mouth)

  • Hurt Locker sucks... it doesnt even have a plot, its like watching a lame documentary... people are blind to see this movie as a winner... it shouldnt even be nominated for anything, its a really horrible movie... Avatar should of won in my opinion, will be remembered way more than this lame ass movie. People in the future will back on the day say "The Hurt Locker won?!" "wtf?" since its pretty obvious avatar was the best movie of the year. This years oscars just brought hell of dispointment

  • @ILoveDreamTheater Avatar is Fern Gully in 3D. Hurt Locker has a plot, but people who love Avatar often can't see beyond the pretty visual effects.

  • HURT LOCKER?? SERIOUSLY??? i watched it just because it got an oscar...and fell asleep. it's BORING beyond belief.

these awards are all bought and paid for and it's a shame really....

  • The Hurt Locker was far better than that abortion known as Avatarded, that's for sure. At least it had a story where Avatarded was nothing more than a cartoon movie with a story for retards!

  • i hope you're kidding. hurt locker had no story that i could locate. no other audience other then americans and british can possibly relate to a single moment in that movie...

i agree that avatar is overrated but it did have a story...it's Pocahontas! except indians are blue-skinned and have built-in USB ports...

  • @Muxxyy I didn't think that Hurt Locker had its focus specifically on the US army. I thought it was more about the realities of war and how it affects the individuals involved in battle. I'm not American, in fact I'm from Hong Kong, I didn't think the purpose of the film was so the audience could relate to the soldiers and provoke our emotion, it was simply portraying the realities of war - as it is.

  • @Muxxyy lol no joke? I got so bored of Avatar because it got really cheesy and predictable I just closed the movie and read the plot summary on Wikipedia instead

  • shut the hell up you fool. She has always said she was anti-war. Have you even watched The Hurt Locker????? tool

  • i still liked the hurt locker but i was entirely stunned with this award winner.

  • i was completely shocked when they announced the hurt locker as best film....seriously? Avatar had a great story and awesome acting while the hurt locker was more of a sub par movie. Oh and don't forget how stunning Avatar looked, though that doesn't make a movie.

  • Comment removed

  • Avatars story was far from original or great. The Hurt Locker was a 10 times better movie.

  • Avatar was a piece of shit, FACT, I'm glad that Cameron got his ass kicked at both the BAFTAS and the Oscars! SUCK IT CAMERON!

  • no matter how much i felt left down by avatar, after checking out other sad nominees for best-movie i had to admit that avatar is by far the best thing out of all the bland generic sh*t that hollywood has coughed up last year....

i can't recall oscars ever looking so miserable...maybe foreign nominees were better (i have yet to see them), but this year's nominees...god, does everyone in america suffer from a case of a truly bad taste???

  • @Muxxyy You didn't think Avatar was generic? Sure, it was revolutionary in terms of its contribution to 3D movies but apart from that, it was no more special

  • ye but James can pook on your face cuz he got 2.6bil $ Ownedddddd

  • Avatar is overrated, is a movie with a very poor script and that is the most important thing on a film

I hope that "The Hurt Locker" win at the Oscars too ;)

  • don't worry. The Hurt Locker saved the Oscars from embarrassing itself.

  • thank god, finally someone writes intelligently here.

  • @HoicnelixRex I was so relieved that Avatar didn't win best picture. Sure I was impressed by the special effects and fancy stuff but I thought the movie was so dull I skipped to the ending

  • @HoicnelixRex fuck you

  • @TMTGeneralDeath

Understood, My General!!! hahahahaha, I suppose you are an Avatar fan, hahahahahahahaha!!!!! AVATAR=OVERRATED!!!!!! ;)

  • @HoicnelixRex fuckin asshole get the fuck out of here

  • Did you guys see both movies ? Avatar is good with great effects BUT COME ON THE HURT LOCKER WAS SO MUCH BETTER !

  • They were both excellent films - very different from eachother, but both very good. However, I did feel that the Hurt Locker had a better storyline and more interesting cinematography than Avatar. I love realistic serious films. For the sole purpose of entertainment, Avatar wins, as it appeals to a much wider audience and is more visually pleasing.

Still - I'm glad The Hurt Locker won. A film doesn't need a shit tonne of action and special effects to be awesome. :)

  • Hurt Locker was garbage! The sniper scene was garbage and lasted like hours. All of a sudden, these two EOD dudes are qualified snipers in 2 mins. That takes years to perfect and special training. Movie was horrible!

  • Why does everyone hate The Hurt Locker? Like there was a better film this year?

  • Oh Come On Avatar Should Have Won

  • @12saintsboy HAHA!!! don't me laugh!

  • I disagree. With a story like that and bad dialogue that in itself doesn't deserve it.

  • @JazznBlues85

Avatar isn't protecting your freedom either....

  • @JazznBlues85 Can really eat a dick, THE HURT LOCKER WAS THE BEST FILM OF THE YEAR, AND YOU CAN SERIOUS TAKE YOUR HIPPIE ASS AND JUMP OFF A BRIDGE. FUCKING LOSER!

  • A masterpiece, so deserved.

  • @JazznBlues85

I take it your not one who likes intellectual films. Instead you like films where the good guys kill all the baddies and the hero gets the girl at the end. You're entitled to your opinion but I think this film is by far the best of 2009.

  • there was nothing deep and intellectual about hurt locker..it had no plot to speak of and most importantly no character development. personally, i was left largely indifferent to any of them. indeed, why should i care about a generic soldier no.2698? because another generic soldier no.3695 in his team got blown to bits? boo hoo... people outside of US don't have the "war culture/soldier worship" and can not relate to this garbage. and yes, you should care about what the rest of the world thinks

  • This is something intellectual about the film. The whole point of it is to capture the in detail and realism certain events soldiers experience. The film brilliantly portrays these situations. They show the tension associated with such moments and the paranoia that follows. Forget about politics and whether you agree with the war in Iraq or not, the film is about the situation and war in general and it accurately displays what bomb disposal units face. Hence the outstanding critical acclaim.

  • Oh and another thing. I'm from Ireland and don't give two craps about US soldiers either but you don't have to in order to appreciate and enjoy the film.

  • @Muxxyy Does a movie have to be deep and intellectual in order for it to be enjoyable? Even so, I wouldn't think Avatar would be an example. lol

  • avatar has amazing effects but really, the story is pretty average, Hurt Locker was good i like both

  • I dont say that Avatar is a masterpiece..maybe it is in SCI FI way but it will never hit up with classics like scarface, forrest gump, the godfather. etc etc.. But i do agree that IT IS the best movie of the year. The main reason its his success. Even plot is predictible it does not make a movie less interest. How many boxoffice records has it broke? how many tickets has it sold? ask your yourself when have u had a movie expierience last time?? IMHO...avatar # 1 of 2009

  • dude despite if there was a grudge it was an awesome film and so much effort went into making it

  • Rumor say that BAFTA has a groudge against James Cameron and special effect's movies, and that's why she won, to humilate Cameron from his ex-wife.

  • Haha, it is clear that every nerd who disliked Hurt Locker is nothing more than a blockbuster dummies.

  • if avatar is so good why didnt it win then haha

    hurt locker rules!

  • The Hurt Locker for Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars!

  • It must be said; Kathryn Bigelow is hot!!

  • Avatar and The Hurt Locker are both wonderful films. Stop being so childish. There is a difference between fact and opinion. One can only have an opinion on the merits of any given film.

  • i saw both Avatar and hurt locker.. Avatar was more emotionally deep by the distance from here to the moon.. if there making such a big deal about hurt locker then how come they didn't recogize other iraq movies like jar head, the documentary about the brothers serving over there and there was another.. or a couple.. i think its just because it's a woman that directed hurt locker.. because Jar Head was just as good

  • I think it's really interesting that people are judging these movies heavily on their political stances. Republicans like the hurt locker, and democrats like Avatar. Lets leave politics out of it, and actually judge the movie based on how good it was. They were both good movies. For those of you claiming that avatar was the greatest movie of all time, it was not that good of a movie compared to any movie that has won best picture at the academy awards. It's not in that calibur.

  • I didn't see the hurt locker, but I saw avatar. I didn't think avatar was that great of a movie. It was good, maybe the best of the year, but it was still what I consider a mediocre movie. I don't remember any characters name, there was not really any character development. I didn't really feel any emotion, every conflict was black and white, there was no moral conflict with the characters. The acting was ok, but the score sucked. I like epic, memorable scores, but it was just gay.

  • I loved both Avatar AND The Hurt Locker. Why can't people love both? Why do they have to hate one

  • Even if Avatar is a technological achievement, the Hurt Locker has proven to more than about the Iraq War. The film shows actual soldiers struggles with the aftereffects of war, ranging from the continuing sight of fallen comrades and gunshots raining in their minds. This film is more than a war film. It is a film based on actual present and continuing struggles soldiers face. Bravo to The Hurt Locker.

  • if i came to your country..bombing shit out of it and than make an brave movie about our soldiers that bombed your country. would u appreciate it? i guess u dont. The huurt locker is not a best movie of the year...what about body of lies? jar head? fahreingeit ??they all look similar some of them even better, but still NONE of the has won oscar or some shit. ??where is justice? is it envy??why so envy of other movies succes? i hope oscar will not go to THL

  • @Nomak020186

Just because it is based in Iraq, doesn't mean it is similar to other films based in Iraq. There are a lot more variables involved. Have you even seen the film? It is describing the paranoia that soldiers experience in tense situations. It doesn't matter whether the soldiers are in Iraq for the right reasons or not. The film highlights how brave soldiers can be and gives a realistic view of the situations they face. Its not like other war films that have one guy kill about 20 men.

  • Nomak, did I even mention such a thing? I was talking about the psychological effects soldiers experience on the battlefield and out of it; indeed, such damaging effects are horrible. Do you wish to be reminded by the simple sound of a gunshot, a helicopter flying, and other loud noises of the tragedy which you have faced before? Hurt Locker is about the characters and their emotion struggles. Go past the nations that fight and look at the people who actually experience it.

  • Have any actors of that movie won bafta? golden globe? NO..so it means that their acting sucked. i would give kahtryn bigelow an oscar for directing and ONLY because she is a woman. Tarantino did better job, but still she is a woman and she will get it.

  • @Nomak020186

Just because they didn't win a bafta, doesn't mean their acting sucked. Did Mickie Rourke's acting suck in the Wrestler just because he didn't win the oscar last year? Does Bruce Willis suck just because he has never won an oscar? Very childish indeed.

  • Agreed Clearinator. Nomak, again when did I start talking about the actors? Stop taking converastions and misleading others. I was merely talking about the soldiers and their struggles. Yes the actors play the soldiers, but I was only talking about the characters. And Kathryn won the Director's Guild Award for a Motion Picture, one of the best, if not the best (besides the Oscar) award a director can get. She was nominated along with Tarantino and Cameron. Only for a woman! Do not jest!

  • @Nomak020186 The main actor is nominated for Best Actor, so by your logic there can only be one good performance a year

  • Avatar is very unoriginal. The Hurt Locker deserves each accolade it receives.

  • F*ck you!

  • Avatar = suck

  • Go drink ur koolaid baby the hurt locker sucked Avatar took 6 years ad th urt locker took one!

  • @iWarriorfan Length of production does not always equate to caliber of movie.

Of course Hurt Locker is going to do better than Avatar - it's the type of movie that gets accolades. Avatar is the type of movie that gets bums on seats and action figures made of it.

Cameron had the best of both worlds with Titanic, and i for one think it's about time Bigelow was recognised.

  • avatar is meant to be totally different kind of movie. did you actually watch the hurt locker? if you have no taste, go back to watching naruto

  • true that

  • jeremy renner at 1:14 so adorable

  • : )

  • Well deserved, I liked Avatar but it was more of a tech demo than a story telling achievement. The Hurt Locker will be looked back on as the defining movie of the Iraq war.

  • Katherine is so pretty.

  • Comment removed

  • @phsyxx yeah but The Hurt Locker has also won many other awards including the critics'.

  • That's not a yeah "but", you've just stated another fact on top of the fact I stated.

Anyways - agree with you that Hurt Locker is more likely to win best film at the OSCARS because it's popular with the critics.

  • Definately deserved this . Fantastic film!
