@Lthegarage - i wish it was my spreadsheet. i just linked it. he is line 22 and has identical stats to every other housecarl. the dark brotherhood initiate is the one that is missing.

@nhlhockeyman8 - it does work on 360. in fact, the only point of doing this is if you are on 360 or ps3. for pc users, you can just disable / enable.

@nhlhockeyman8 - i don't think this is well documented in terms of followers. there is a complete list of essential npc's here:

and you can check follower names in that list is about all i could suggest.

I'd never played an Elder Scrolls game before, and I've just finished the main story and am level 39, did several of the sidequests, and I'd had Lydia the entire way. I guess the way I played I never noticed if she was "bad" because I tended to do most of the work anyway. She's kitted out in full Daedric armour and weapons and I think she does okay, but I'm starting to wonder now how wrongly I've been playing this game...

@sariusmonk - with decent enough gear, many followers will be "good enough" even with lesser stats. you really start to notice the bug against swarms of strong enemies like falmer or against casters where the followers cannot resist their spells.

I tried fixing Erik the Slayer at level 46. his armor reverts back like it worked but he still dies in a few hits and according to the spreadsheet he should have 600+ hitpoints.

I have readed that there is a cheat - setessential 1 - that will do so you follower will not die, only 'kneel'. But i cant get it working. If anybody knows how it work, please write me!! I dont want to play with followers who just die..

Though after I Wabbajack-ed my follower J'Zargo and re-recruiting him, he doesn't attack enemies anymore. Always running away. Anyone with the same problem?

I think you can also upgrade your follower stats (so that they match with the player's) by using the enable/disable console command on them. Im not sure if it actually works, since I haven't tried it yet, but it seems easier than the Wabbajack thing :P

It's easier, but only if you play on PC. The WJ method is the first time PS3 and Xbox360 players could fix the bug. They don't have any other options.

@JRxPHANTOM -anyone that isn't essential. it might be possible that the ones that are essential can be fixed if you marry them then wabbajack them after marriage, as they are killable by you. i haven't tested this yet.

@thenubecake - yes it is because he is essential. but he is not the only one. mjoll, dark brotherhood initiate, companions guild to name a few.

Lydia sucks ass and super annoying either way you look at it. Give her the best weapon, best armor, restoration potion glitch and she still finds ways to fail. She is simply a waste of life in skyrim lol

j'zargo still sucks after being wabba'd at 81. he can take enormous amounts of damage but getting him to stop using sparks (on the console) is nearly impossible.

@Fuzion1988 I've tried this on several companions as well, and it does seem to work for all "non-essential" NPC companions, however, for those npcs designated as "essential" to quests, it will not work. This is simply because the Wabbajack does not cast transformation spells on essential characters, If you wabbajack them, they will only get blasted with elemental destruction spells. This is presumably, and also ironically, an effort by Bethesda to maintain quest stability and availability.

One example of an "essential" character who cannot be transformed by the Wabbajack is Mjoll the Lionness... not that she really needs to be leveled anyway, but there it is. As I am led to believe that such essential characters are invincible anyway, it's really no big whoop.

@YelloWLemonLord - you start at level 1. max level is 81. you get 1 perk per level. you can't buy them all. maybe they will raise the cap with DLC.

@bySneckDraw - yes. check the spreadsheet in the description. j'zargo in heavy armor 50+ is going to beat out anyone else, though it is hard to get him to utilize the 100 one-hand skill.

your other best choices will be the housecarls. also, a lot of people choose mjoll because she is flagged essential and won't die.

Do you know how to make a follower equip a bow? Everytime I give any follower a bow that is at least 10x stronger than their hunting bow they just that on instead. Any help?

I have Mjoll as my current follower and I have had the same problem with other followers but she equipped the Spectral/Ghost Bow found when doing the College of Winterhold quest-line.

@MGOTXtreme - i felt this way the first playthrough. second playthrough i grew to love dead thrall and since i already had two helpers, might as well have 3. then came the summon atronach staves and now there is 6, 7 when outside. i'd add a dog but the barking gets old.
