This is my second favorite non-Bob Dylan of all time, just behind (or maybe even tied with) Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. Dylan (of whom Elton John is a big fan of as well) is my favorite of all time and all his stuff is at the top of my list, but this is very, very high as well. Very well done by John and Taupin.
Pulled more understanding from these lyrics tonight than I ever heard before - and I bought the record when I was 19 (now 55). One can read between the lines. Sitting like a Princess (bri) perched in her electric chair. We've all gone crazy lately. It all opens up.
This is sooooooo very well done. I got to your video because the sound quality on the first 5 I tried to view was absolutely terrible. Thank goodness for bad videos, they brought me to yours. What a breath of fresh air!!
Damn I'm glad someone saved it. Could you imagine living your life without ever listening to an Elton John song? Doesn't seem like living to me.

Bernard Taupin actually wrote this song about Elton's near-suicide. The "someone" was rocker Long John Baldry who talked Elton out of it.

The synthesizers sound just like Pink Floyd! The 70's had the most unique sound. You will not here music like this ever again!!!!

"Paying your H.P. demands forever" refers to installment payments. I've been told that the letters H.P. stand for Hire-Purchase or Hire-Pay.

Excellent video on one of Elton's best songs ever! Does anyone know what H.P. demands are? Is that some British thing?

Hi 12prairiedog,
I always thought that "HP demands" meant buying on credit. I could be wrong though lol! :)
