Great lesson -- very straight-forward and simplified. What's your set-up during this lesson? Aside from the flanger, I also hear a delay. I have an MXR phase-90, which is also one of the effects needed. Anyways, I'm just curious on what type of distortion do you use, and what is the set-up? I would appreciate your response. Rock on!
Great job! Keep the music alive. People may bag and talk smack but another proof of why I think Line 6 is making the best amps for the money. Sure you can get a Marshall and throw $1,500 of pre-amp on the front, but do you want to? One plug reactors!
Actually, Ed and Mike both tuned their entire instrument down a 1/2 step for much of the first three or four albums Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb or if you prefer... D#, G#, C#, F#, A#, D# as my tuner reads it. :)
As a guitar teacher's point of view, I must recommend you to take on another posistion. The way the guy on video is sitting will give back and shoulder pains in the future. Take on the "classical position". This will also remove the chance on carpal tunnel syndrome. Also the falnger pedal is not needed. Sliding up and down the neck using Natural harmonics gives the same results. This is really beginner stuff. But it's a very good tutorial video none the less.
On that note, I went ahead and removed the inappropriate comments. For future reference, comments like "this is shit" without something to back them up (a correction, a video response, etc) will be deleted.
And if there are, comments from other users flaming those users will ALSO be deleted!
Constructive criticism is welcome and helpful. Let's keep it civil.
I guess there is no point arguing with you, since your writing is typical of a troll, but anyways, here goes:
The song is in Drop C#(Since EVH plays E# and drops the E# in this song.).. and the problem here is that this guy havent dropped the 6th string, which wouldnt be a problem if he just moved the chords up 2 semitones, but he didnt.
So whats happening is that he is pumping the octave bass in a minor seventh instead of a perfect octave.
Apw, the dude's entitled to his opinion. Let's keep the name calling to a min. He's also right about tuning
NoTuern, you're right, I didn't drop my low E like Ed does, but to be honest, it's a pain in the ass and it really doesn't make that much of a difference when playing this. But look at how much more helpful your second comment was than your first! Your first comment reeked of troll. Your second one is very valuable! Big difference!
You are right, it doesnt make much difference in dropping it or not, IF you had moved the rest of the notes 2 semitones up(Instead of moving the 6th string down 2 semitones.).
As it is right now, you're playing off key with your self.
And yeah, i was just trying to call to attention with my first point that something was wrong in the first place.. because i usually want people to try and spot the errors on their own, as personal experience is key as a musician.
Put that in and watch ED play it live. The only dif is the drop-D and that makes almost no difference whatsoever in the overall sound. Def. not worth opening and re-tuning a FloyD Rose just to get that extra half step from the eb to the D. Dumbass.

It would be helpful to know the tuning for the song. Dropped D 1 half-step down.

Great lesson. This is easily one of the best one I've seen and it's nice to actually see something actually taught for once instead of just played!
