  • Great vid. Thanks.

  • do they sell ram at best buy? shit imma go to mcdonalds and order up some ram

  • im upgrading mine from 4 GB to 8GB on tuesday because thats when my RAM arrives. Thanks newegg.

  • Crap video. You don't show anything clearly. What was the point of even troubling to make this video. Waste of time.

  • @zitzerman its not a how too, he was just sharing him upgrading it. now go troll somewhere else

  • Im a novice can you tell me how can I tell how many gigs of RAM my Macbook can hold

  • im a random wind storm, shaky shaky!

  • i have a question. i have a mac book pro, probably exactly like yours. i want to up grade my ram. and now as ive watched your video i know how to do.... so i need to know what kind of rams i should look at buying. .... what brands etc...

  • @OzBoomBap86 You have no idea what your doing do you.....

  • is it possible to upgrade the dedicated memory for the graphics card in macbook pro? Any1 tell me please!

  • @93badfingers

It isnt, the graphic card is tied down to the motherboard, making it next to impossible

  • keep upgrading

  • 3:19

  • was that a fart at 4:16

  • I hope YOU get eaten by a small pet...or any kind of pet. You kind of suck at life fool. So you can run and tell that!

  • loser

  • What a f*ck? It is NOT macbook Pro!

  • @lukas2me Yes it is, it's a couple years old, but it is a Macbook Pro

  • @lukas2me it is. its just an older version of the macbook pro. my friend has one

  • @lukas2me You're an idiot.

  • Thank you for this brilliant guide, straight forward and easy to follow. I was able to expand the RAM in my MacBook Pro to the maximum within a matter of minutes. :)

  • ha ha

  • this guy is completely retarded. changing ram is the easiest job in the world. My kids can do it.

  • @richardreidjr

That's great, but I bet your kids couldn't do it without someone telling them how first. It's very easy to mess this up if you don't know what you're doing. Also believe it or not, most people don't just automatically know how to open up their computer and install memory.

  • this guy is completely retarded. changing ram is the easiest job in the world. My kids can do it.

  • 'boy, these things are so tiny'... thats what she said LOL

  • Don't be lazy - take your chance NOW and win Macbook Air. Check out macbook7, c0m!

  • thats the worst battery ive ever had it only lasts 15 minutes with only a year of use

  • God damn it Chris. Why the Hell are you a Mac?

  • @rothaga2@rothaga2 cause hes smart unlike your ass with your cheap ass walmart computers

  • fuck this video started out loud

  • where can i buy those?

  • @sk8androck4life i would check macsales.com AKA OWC

  • its just as simple on a regular laptop.

  • I have a question, I have a GPU that is 256 MB, I need to run Maya that needs 512. I have a Macbook pro so upgrading the GPU is not possible. If I upgraded my ram from 2GB to 4GB, would that suffice? or do I need a new laptop?

    Thanks.

  • how do you do this in the unibody?

  • @cobugi deliver it to a apple store

  • 667Mhz of ram? thats some slow ass ram.

  • You should get a magnet, YouTube partner Kipkay did this on one of his tutorials.

  • banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone banana phone

  • although you can run more pragrams with more ram will it run faster

  • Most likely. It depends on how much more you put in. Like adding 256mb most likely won't show more snappiness

  • man... i dont know very wel the computer things.... but i now that my computer... is not a laptop... haves 2 GB DDR 2 memory... hdd 400 GB.... a nVIDIA 9200 graphics card with 512 mb.... and please tell me what is the difference between ram memory and hdd memory????

  • your desktop has ram too. ram memory is memory that can be used randomly by your computer. you can upgrade the ram which makes your computer faster. RAM stands out for Random-access memory. HDD is your hard drive or hard disk drive. its were you store all your programs like word or your games. its were stuff normally goes after you download something or install something. if you fill up your hard drive on a laptop you might have problems. your laptop might run slow and freeze alot like mine does

  • why is mine named a powerbook g4 and yours is a mcbook pro ,are they the same just different names?

  • nah they're different

  • does this void the warranty

  • @temesgen54 No it should not but anyways it is very hard to screw up.

  • nope its okay to chance the ram and harddrive.. and you can make one harddrive backup thats does not void the apple warranty

  • i won a macbook here: macbookfree. tk ... try it, it's for free... i'm so happy :)

  • yeah okay

  • My macbook pro's underside does not look like that at all and my one doesn't heat up much at all, strange.

  • IT;s Because The case got An Update in 2008+9

  • I'm not even a big fan of Windows, but what you said about Vista is completely wrong.

Windows vista can and does support 4gb of RAM. You don't have to switch to Vista 64-bit.

You really need to check your facts before spreading rumors about it.

  • No... 32 bit only recognizes a bit more than 3GB. You need a 64 bit OS for the computer to recognize and use all 4GB.

  • @itstristanyo maybe for windows yeah!

  • @TheSwitijs No, it's true for all operating systems. It is impossible for 32 bit operating systems simply because of number limitations. This is true for Windows, OS X, and Linux. Snow Leopard even ships with a 32 bit kernal that can't access all the memory on older systems.

  • Actually you do need 64-bit to actively run 4GB.

    Well known fact.

  • OWNED

  • YUPnNOPE (1 week ago), If your mac book pro is Inter Core Duo, then it can support maximum of 2 GB memory. It doesn't matter if you put 4 GB or 2GB, it can recognize only 2GB. I am not sure Apple produced Inter Core 2 Duo in 2006. If your MBP is Core 2 Duo, then you can upgrade more. But check your MBP, how much memory it can support.

  • What? core 2 duo is different then core duo right? ok sorry im like trying to learn this. So your saying that the MBP that have core duo can only support 2 gigs, and MBP's that have core 2 duo support more idk plz expplain thanks

  • out of curiosity: online it says that the 2006 macbook pro 15" (2.0 ghz core duo) can only be expanded to 2GB. why is that the limit? what would happen if i tried to put in 4GB? would it mess up the computer?

  • thank you for making this vid. i'm about to upgrade my '06 15" macbook pro's memory.. only got 1G right now.. lol.

  • I watched a couple of videos on this chore and this one is the most amateur, unhelpful and badly filmed i have seen. 'Use a small screwdriver' for instance. Hey man flat, posi, phillips.

I think the "I've never done this before" is a giveaway.

Also the MBP can't use four MG only a max of about 3.3

  • does adding more RAM use more battery power?

  • nope

  • it uses less.

  • i should not really effect it much

  • (please answer back)

If I'm wanting to upgrade my macbook pro 15 inch (late 2008) from 2gb to 4gb, can the operating system support it? would i have any problems? If you want to know., here are the specs of my mac {2.4 ghz, 2gb ram, running 32-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo} Thank you!!

PLEASE ANSWER BACK it would be much appreciated,...thanks

  • I'm upgrading my 2.4 GHz 13 inch White MacBook to 4GB of RAM from 2GB, so thanks for this vid, I've seen really bad still photos, but actually having a nice commentary, that's entertaining at the same time while still having a clear video is excellent. Thanks for this video a ton, favourited!

  • The limit for 64bit is not 8GB it's 16 TB you can't get 16TB of ram but in the future you can you could use it on your 64bit computer you have now and leopard is 64bit

  • I will have older macbook pro with ram 512mb, how much ram can I put in? How much is it limited?

  • umm take to apple!!! or use the book that came with ur mac, :P

  • Yea its sooo easy I have a 2GB stick and a 526MB stick in mine..The max I can use in windows is 2Gb and im using 1.9GB (used the other 600MB for vid card, XD)

Really fast, but linux doesn't eat the crap out of it like winxp.

Mac looks awesome I have the theme on linux/ubuntu

  • thanks alot guy , this video was very helpfu

  • I really hate it when people say "gigs".

  • gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs gigs

  • @darkmastachief

Do you really have that much RAM?

  • I'm gunna get a macbook pro

  • What is faster:

    Two sticks of 1GB or

    One stick of 2GB????

  • they are about the same

  • in theory one stick of 2GB, because all of the info gets placed in one place, and does not need to jump back and forth, like it sometimes does when using two sticks...

  • The two 1gbs will be faster if your motherboard supports dual channel memory (which if its less than 3 years old probably will). This is because it shares the load evenly between the two sticks. Its similar to asking if a 1ghz dual core processor is faster than a 2ghz single core processor. Even though they both are running at the same GHz, the dual core will be slightly faster, as it can proccess two bits of information at the same time, where as the single core can only process one

  • two 1GB sticks because it runs in dual channel. that means that each stick is under less stress because it only has half the load.

  • Not true actually. Stress does not matter at all when it comes to RAM, for Hard disks yes but not for RAM. The whole point of dual channel or triple channel (as introduced by the core i7 architecture) is so that the computer access 2 or 3 ram sticks at a time taking advantage of both the speeds. Normally only 1 ram stick is being accessed at a time limiting write speed to that one stick, if it's both sticks at the same time, you double the speed. It's kinda like RAID 0 for RAM and not HDDs.

  • thanks for this but how did you zoom in when viewing "about this mac"?

  • hold ctrl and then scroll

  • is it possible to only replace one of the two slots? for example: you have 2 time 1gig and you replace the first slot bij a 2gig, then you would have 3gig...

    is this possible?

  • How easy is that? :)

  • vista basic 32 bit can handle 4 gb of ram. thats what im running on right now

  • Elegantly! Seemlessly!

  • is it possible to upgrade the ram with 8gb?

  • Yes, and the 64 bit system does read up to 8GB of Random Access memory. If you have a PC with a 32 bit system, it will only read up to 3.2 GB

  • Bananaphone

  • i am going to be upgrading the ram and the hard-drive in my macbook. do i have to ground myself before i do this and if so how can i???

  • I've heard XP can handle 5

  • mac pro can handle 8 x 4 GB 32 gig.

  • my mac book pro has 4gb now, do u think I can add 2gigs more, is there an extra slot for a 2gb ram card?

  • It can only read 3.5 gigs though, unless you have 64 bit, then it would probably be 8 gigs

  • Soon we will be able to run 24GB with the new Intel i7 motherboards (6x4GB)

  • you give me the ones you take out lol

  • Mac is 64 bit...

  • no not yet. when snow leopard releases, it will become 64bit!!!

  • hardcore selling the starbucks sheesh 7:15

  • hey bro can the apple store help me replace the memory? I was able to remove 2 of the 3 screws, but the 3rd screw was kind of stripped so I couldnt open it to replace my ram....

  • Banna Phone

  • nope

  • Does installing more ram void the warranty??

  • NO!

  • Is that the 3,1 gen?

  • will it affect boot camp

  • no it will not

  • how did you zoom in on your screen like that?! That was aswome!

  • hod down control, then scroll up/down.

  • Note: Not Command!

  • cant get it to work... holding down control and then scrolling up and down didnt do it for me...

  • your using a mac right?

  • i am indeeed.. leopard.. 2.16mhz...

  • with a mighty mouse, hold command the scroll the little scrollerball up to zoom in, and vice versa

  • i think im going to put in 4GB or ram in my 2GB ram macbook maybe next year or something

  • i about to buy 2x2GB, how many pins should it be? 200 or 240?

  • 200

  • well i think there is two so you can put two of them, but you want to buy once that have 800mhz speed and 2gb each one. That's what i am gonig to do. Those think are actaully are little cheaper here in russia then us

  • I just went to Micro Center and forgot what kind of RAM I needed. The douche sold me the wrong kind even after I told him what kind of computer I have so now I have to wait til tomorrow.

  • Thats cool your mac book pro will be able to run just about anything on there

  • LMAO banana phone

  • Very helpful for me, especially for when changing my own RAM.:)

  • Dude shut up and just do it and explain when u need too

  • lol banana fone banana fone banana fone lmao

  • Geek is not a myth.

  • Where can you buy the ram that will work on Macbook Pro's?

  • Does it use FBDIMMs?

  • no, it does not, the mac pro does, though

  • how much does that cost?

  • bump

  • I just bought 2 2gb sticks from OWC. 114 dollars.

  • very helpfull!!!!

  • It's banana PHONE

  • chris, very informative... thanks... just a quick question... i'm thinking of getting a mac pro which comes with 2 gigs, but another 2 gigs cost 500 dollars... i heard your recommendation, but is it possible to get quality ram for the mac pro cheaper (not at apple)? thanks...

  • OMG ! I come from Denmark and just brought 4GB Kingston RAM and the cost was only about 90 US$

I have always used kingston RAM (last 10 years) and never had a bad one with any problems or something.

  • thanks...

  • thats uz Kingston pws :) i have kingston USB drives and hey pwn.

  • thanks!

  • What is the ram you are putting into your mac called?

  • mac ram

  • yeah, I know its mac ram, but what is the ram called?

  • i just brought 2x 2GB kingston PC2 - 5300 CL 5 200 - pin SODIMM for my MacBook Pro 2,5 GHz

  • haha banana phone , love ur ringtone ! :P

  • With a pc its easy to replace the ram. Not with a macbook pro.

  • lol ur an idiot then... its not hard at all. lol.

  • ?... if you think that the steps he did were difficult, you are a complete idiot. It doesn't get much easier... notice how he didn't even have to do anything but turn the mac back on for it to work? Usually with PCs, you have to go through the extra step of locating, then running and making sure the RAM is compatible. With Macs, it brings the term "plug n' play" onto a whole new level.

  • you have windows vista so far up your ass

  • lol @ the people chatting on the screen in the video xD

  • I'm to scared to open my Mac Mini

  • dude i opened mine its not hard, theres loads of tutorials online :)

dont worry about it its really easy, im going to do the processor next...

  • Thanks, but I've seen videos and the cables that connect the CD drive to the power and stuff like that are so small and if I busted one I'd be so pissed off!

  • yeh, you only have to undo one of them thats right at the front (if you have an intel like me) and thats only the fan control speed so if u do break it your fan will be at 5000rpm all the time lol... i forgot to plug mine back in the 1st time i took it apart and man thats a noisy beast!

  • Maybe, I have an Intel one 1.83ghz

  • ah i have the erlier one, the core duo 1.66... hopefully upgrade to a core 2 duo 2.16 without any heat issues. or i might sell my mini with my 22inch screen and get a referbished mac book :]

  • how many slots are available in the macbook pro for ram...just two? If you had three i gb sticks

of ram could you put all of them in ?

  • only 2
