If the IRA hadnt started the 1916 uprising Home rule would most likely been granted for all Ireland in the post war years. @seangavin123 I think the Irish government (who btw the IRA did not officially recognise in the 1970's) called them terrorists too. There is a moral question about if their killing was justified and that can be debated (I would say no in that debate) but there is no legal question that they were criminals in the Republic and the UK.
