A very very wise man(I wont say his name but he happens to be a three time national banjo champ) told me when he started to teach me that a banjo can be 1 of 2 things; slightly out of tune or,way the hell out of tune.Furthermore those are not stains they are leftovers.....at least thats what I tell people.....

Banjo is very different from guitar. For one thing the tuning is completely different so none of your guitar chords will work on the banjo.

I'm like iguy1000; hopelessly jealous. I "played" banjo for 5 years and never got the hang of it. But I love the sound. Now I want to build a banjo and fail at learning all over again.

Now that you have the bridge height good enough you can use the coping saw to clean up the bottom notches and give it a coat of varnish. It'll look great.

It's not as firm as plastic or fiberskyn, but it's free, it's completely weather proof, and it sounds pretty decent, for free.. I figure it's a good banjo to take on a trip because the weather won't affect the head much and all.. I wouldn't recommend you go out and change your banjo to one of these, but in a pinch, it could get you playin' till you could get to the banjo store to get a new one..
