  • Thank you very much everyone for getting this video to over 100,000 views. I never guessed that it would become so popular for such an unplanned piece of filming! :-D

  • Without a doubt, the best 21 seconds on YouTube. :)

  • love the roll on the way up

  • Love It!!! I just can't get over the sound of that Merlin. :D

  • what a great sound

  • Duford air Mu

  • One of the things I want most in life is one of these, preferably a Mk. V or IX, just the thought of flying the Spitfire sends chills through me. I at least want to sit in one of these before I die...

If any of you have Microsoft Flight Simulator X, I HIGHLY recommend getting the RealAir Spitfire, it's incredible, the only inaccuracy is the fact that there's only 1 starting button instead of 2 (because you can't push 2 at the same time with the mouse).

  • Aw man... Love it!

  • I wish I was born into this era of aircraft

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • Amazingg video :) 1000000/10 Thanks for the upload !

  • @JAH9495 You're very welcome and thank you very much for your comment. :-)

  • CRACKING!! :O)

  • Nothing beats that sound - what a fantastic piece of British engineering! Long may they continue to fly those beautiful machines.

  • Yep thats a Spitty, and its pretty damned low alright. 5*/thumbs up or whatever it is nowadays.

  • The sound of a merlin engine with the beautiful shape of spitfire ..now thats British for you..fantastic. Beats any sound on Britain's got talent or x-factor rubbish

  • Woah - what a cracking bit of film!

  • that merlin gives me goosebumps everytime!

  • There are two aircraft in this clip, one of which is obviously a Hurricane, in fact it is the main aircraft featured & is the one doing the really low passes. You folks need to go to Specsavers....

  • @hedleyclive what are you on about mate. there is only 1 plane in this clip which clearly is a spitfire. hurricanes have a raised canopy n look at the side markings..black n white stripes which i believe is spitfire mk19..us folks need to go to specsavers..err your seeing planes not there and cant tell the difference. think again son

  • @msa17ncfc He obv did wot I did and got here after watching a y/t vid of two planes flying over some cliffs. One was a Spit, and one was a Hurri. My old man flew Spits.

  • Brilliant clip, and... the sound..! Amazing.

    Thank you.

  • NICE

  • hey guyes

  • And thats how saving private ryan was made....

  • I dont get it? I do not remember seeing a Spit in the movie..

  • it is my freind

  • >.> I know! Dont you think it would be a bit obvious considering they even said it in the movie. I was saying that this is what the plane did.

  • Oh, and that was totally obvious...

  • this is a spitfire look at the wings at 0:06 - 0_07

  • @AlHillATC thats not a p-51

  • @laservader1 jesus christ I know! I was replying to something the poster has now deleted.

  • you're so wrong men !

  • The most beautiful sound ever created by man!

  • God bless the UK! I love watching old footage of the Spitfires in action. :)

  • Rule Britannia!

  • WOW

  • low pass with victory roll....against rules in WW2 and pilot may have been repirmanded! But they did it anyway.

  • lucky pilot!

  • What a beautiful sounding aircraft. A blast from the past.

  • Thanks for all of your feedback so far. I didn't expect this off-the-cuff piece of filming to become so popular with almost 25,000 views! :-D

  • Wonderful!!Beautiful!!!

  • Probably the greatest aircraft ever made!

Pure class is a pity was a war machine and many great pilots from all countries died in them.

When you see it in the flesh is a stunning thing.

    That RR Merlin is fantastic.

  • gotta agree with you there from a engineering point of view one of the finest aircraft ever made

  • wow would hae loved to seethe landing, puke and all, no but realllly, I want a chance pulease, wow what a way to command the sky

  • This is a guy called Major Day, flying out of a small strip in Lincolnshire, England, called East Kirkby unless I am very much mistaken. This guy can hide a Spit behind a hedgerow... and do things with it Mitchell wasn't even sure were possible when he designed it. As for who thought this was a hurricane... shame on you!

  • makes we want to move there just to see him fly!! i love these plans...

  • Thanks for your brilliant comment, absolutely spot on! :-)

  • because as we all know the Hurricane was a finer aircraft in combat, I really urge people to visit East Kirkby it really is an experience to remember

  • @Acousticrichard One of those things, which I wouldn't dare try, was allegedly an out-of-control dive in a Met-modified Spit that tangled with a hurricane (the meteorological kind, not the Hawker kind). Initial reconstruction of the barometer records suggested a dive speed of M0.94, but alas it wasn't as fast as that when they eventually did the sums right. :( One wonders what would happen if you took the Spiteful wing off an Attacker and put the original elliptical planform on...

  • Airshow ?

  • I filmed this just before Paul Day did the actual Spitfire display. I think he took some lucky (and obviously rather wealthy!) person out for a private flight beforehand... and WHAT a flight!

  • Bird of prey that's what it is.

  • Spit would leave the Hurricane standing in speed and climb

  • 6 - 7 secs in watch it climb and roll and you can see the eliptical wing - def a spit.

oh and a hurricane could easily do that too.

    its not going particulary fast.

  • Ha!! Thats my boss's old man.... I always thought he was winding me up that he had a Spitfire!!!

  • Come on Terrorizer!!! If it were a Hurricane, it would have a larger vertical tail, rounded wingtips and not an elliptical wing planform!!! And it would be hard for a Hurricane to go that fast at low altitudes! Yes SmiertSpionem it's a Mk.IX!!!

  • Spitfire Mk.IX I think...

  • Yes, that's a Spirtfire

  • no sorry it is a Spit

  • I can assure you it IS a Spitfire!

  • And exactly how is this video 'FAKE' and 'LIES'?

  • Hurricanes had the squared wings....
