well, this is the the second time I've watched this now (months later?) and I am pleased to say, I am less like the guy presented in this video than I was... apart from making the sickest comments.
@daneiladams I have traveled all over and find that there are idiots with giant egos everywhere. It's a human thing, not an american thing - but if all you know of the US is what you see on TV/in the media, then yes, I suppose that is the opinion you would have.

The essence of Buddhism is not to take life too seriously. He's making fun of people who don't get this and think Buddhism is some kind of a serious business. :D
I think this is a great and funny video! At the same time it seems tragic--like Shakespeare's work I guess. And I agree with dapeach. I have met many people like this who are interested in Buddhism. We in America have some great karma that allows us to meet with the Dharma. We also have some crappy karma that makes it difficult for us to understand and practice it correctly. May we purify our crappy karma! (ending with a chuckle)
@MadhuMangalaDasa, @utinaeniduin No Buddha rejected Hindu Believing of Athma(Which is the basemen of the Hinduism) and creator, In Buddhism there is nothing consistence but all are result of reasons. Main Idea of the Buddhism is end suffer.
@MadhuMangalaDasa The Buddha is recognized by Hindus as an avatar of Vishnu, yes, but his teachings are actually contradictory to the goal of Hinduism. In Buddhism there is a heavy stress on anatman or the realization that there is no inherently existing self. Hindu yoga is aimed towards the experience of discovering that atman and brahman are one and the same: that there is divine goodness and power in all of us. They are similar but have starkly different stresses.
@utinaeniduin Hinduism, as you have described it, does not exist. The philosophy you are talking about is called advaita-vedanta and is the teachings spread by Lord Siv as Shankaracarya. It is called the mayavada philosophy and is not Hindu inherently Hinduism. There are many shaivites who are mayavadis, however you are neglecting those who think that Narayan is the Supreme being, in which case realizing that atama and brahman are one and the same is only half the equation.
@utinaeniduin As far as the 'goal' of Hinduism, you'd be hardpressed to find just one. If there was just one, how could dharma and all the various forms of yoga exist within hindiusm. First you have Karma-yoga, then you have jnana yoga, bhakti yoga, with heaven, brahman and either Vaikunthalok and love of Krsna being their respective goals. All of those aforementioned systems of yoga are a progression towards bhakti yoga in that they give one increased qualification and sukriti for bhakti yoga.
@MadhuMangalaDasa So, superficially, there is no ONE goal of Hinduism, but if we are talking about ultimate goals of Hinduism, all of the vedic literatures lead towards Krishna/Narayan. You might be interested in reading 'Evolution of Theism' by BG Narasingha Maharaj for a nice read about this kind of thing. '

@AristideCavCol your wrong buddy! Interestingly, it's not widely known that the majority of wars on our planet have been caused by Buddhists. Now that is a God damn fact!
@LiquidMetalX7 are you delusional, or did you not get a proper education. Christianity, and Islam are the two religions that cause the most wars. But I'm not talking trash though.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Great video. I guess everyone needs to stand back once in a way and see if we are making religion morbid by our seriousness. I don't think anyone should be offended by it. :)
Well there are great Buddhist teachers that talk about our "fuckedupedness" - direct quote - how we might see ourselves sometimes in terminology of today
So.. i think that this could be seen as working with ourselves with relaxed humour perhaps.
- It goes to the core of what sets Buddhism apart from other religions.
Another matter is the female roles - whether that is just putting it into the 'rap vid' genre... i think more thought could have been given to turn that raper aspect on its head2

@Fixdal so it looks as if the Buddhists have the greatest sense of humour and are least likely to take offense. But my point about christianity is that we are predominantly christian and my feeling is that it would not go over very well in the bible belt. ISLAM is definitely a hot potato .... not a good idea.
Interesting that 41 people did not like the video. I guess there are a few serious buddhists.
Absolutely hilarious! Extremely cerebral. This thing is funny on so many levels, it's hard to really understand, until you think about it a bit! Thanks Arj, you're one funny fucker!
Thank you Dan Savage! This is about the funniest thing I have ever seen, and I am Buddhist. So many funny lyrics I can't even decide which one is the best. And I really do follow the Dharma. But I can't help but crack up at this thing.
Some picayune Buddhist bloopers: An ashram is a Hindu center. Prayer wheel is spinning the wrong way (counter-clockwise). Robe colors are off. Kama sutra isn't Buddhist. He waves a Hindu Om at the end -- with the wrong side up. But hilarious... excellent!
A lot of so-called "Buddhists" nowadays blend all sorts of non-Buddhist things into Buddhism and mix stuff up, so the fact that Hindu elements, Kama Sutra and other non-Buddhist stuff shows up just makes it even funnier. This truly IS the way a lot of people practice and mix stuff up. This parody is perfect!
I hope that those who might take offense to this don’t. This isn’t about Buddhism, but about some Buddhists (or poser Buddhists who practice for the lifestyle rather than the practice). Taken in context…this is hilarious.
People should remember that comedians often have to make insulting remarks towards things, to be funny. This is part of their job. I am a keen Buddhist and when I watched this, I did not take this seriously, as I knew Arj had to make insulting remarks about Buddhism to be funny. In fact, his video was hilarious.
He's mostly poking fun at a particular type of "Buddhist" practitioner - and he knows what he's joking about. This is why I find him so funny. Can't get enough of this video!
He's making a parody of the stereotypical type of "Buddhist" you might often find within modern "Dharma" groups, which are supposed to be of the "Vajrayana" or "Zen" variety.
@AmyLuAnne why can't the video just be what it is. A funny SNL sketch that uses Buddhist stereo types and western views in general of ALL Buddhist traditions. Anything more would be uh...THINKING... So I say, RELAX, enjoy it and then when you are done watching, LET IT GO..............
this guy look like a jelous man taht he can not accept a peaceful religion, he is more like bin-ladens cousin disturb others or like misonaries work that forceing people like Forceful Religious Conversion of Buddhists into Christianity at Changlang Distt. Of Arunachal Pradesh and nexus of such activists with underground Militants.
This video is so funny! (And I consider myself Buddhist!) I don't feel it pokes fun at Buddhism, but rather, it makes a parody of a certain type of person one often meets in Buddhist groups. I like how he's often spinning the prayer wheel in the wrong direction because he thinks he's so great and he doesn't notice, lol! I get a kick out of the "Tantric 64 Arts" stuff, the crazy women and the guy who's trying to murder him! :) I love the end where he holds up the "OM", bows and looks humble! :)
im not monk.. but i seen monkey poo once,,, does that count

I've met Buddhists from this school. They're more common than you think.
