Are there any other songs you'd recommend similar to Black Water? I haven't been able to find many that affect me in the same way this does, but it isn't like many other Doobie Brothers songs. I am thinking along the lines of the acoustic, finger picking, folk, back country type of sounds that this song carries so successfully and wonderfully. I would like to build up a repertoire of those types of songs to play around with. Thanks, I appreciate any recommendations you can give.

great question....not sure if i can help or not - as far as how a song affects you that is of course your call. I think this song is very special to a lot of us because of all the memories it may bring back to surface as well as the incredible piece of writing and playing it is from Mr. PS!

I like your idea of building up tunes to play that you and others will enjoy over the long haul - if i were to suggest one, and this of course my preference, it would be Never Going Back Again.

Geez, it sounds like two guitarists! How in the world does Pat Simmons play those parts and sing at the same time? Great job on the lesson as well as the performance, Dale.

You have to play it a billion times before you start singing (If you're amateur like me) but there are some songs that are difficult that I can play and sing along. Most I cannot. But from experience, once I can play it without problem and commit it to muscle memory, I don't realize I'm playing it.

So I would assume that's how most musicians do it, but I'd guess it doesn't take them as long because they've been at it for so long; and their Labels assign release deadlines. Can't be late :)

Oh, well he was just asking how he can play a song like that and sing at the same time. I found it difficult to start adding lyrics at one point (not for this song, I still can't add lyrics yet, still learning) but for some by bands like Collective soul, i've played enough times to figure out lol. I hope more people see this video, I really enjoyed both parts. Learning and listening. How did you learn it?

Thanks for your post! I wanted to play this tune for a long time but really didn't have any support resouces and just too complicated to pick off studio track. Now I have live video & audio to 'steal' from!! Much easier these days than when I started - lifting a needle off vinyl!!
