  • Thanks. Nice work :)

  • Is there any way I can attach an LCD video monitor to my 16mm bolex?

  • I love the bolex. Check out my film, In George's Cave, made with a bolex :-D

  • What is the cost of flim for say one minute of video run at 64FPS?

  • @newcomer9747 16mm film is about $30-40/100 feet. 100 feet will run you under 5 minutes at 24 fps.

  • what causes the flashes of light in between exposures? Is the film overexposed after it stops but before the shutter closes?

  • @coorsmackio

It's a "flash frame". A small section of the film gets exposed when you stop the camera.

  • @rockinar Color me wrong, but isn't there a lever somewhere on the H16 that takes care of that problem? It has to do with the viewfinder, I believe.

  • @rockinar is there a way to avoid flash frames and create a long frame shot on a 16mm camera, like maybe some sort of adjustment, or is that just an inevitable aspect of them? I know little about cameras at this point but I'm looking to buy either a Bolex H16 or a Krasnogorsk-3 right now.

there's no way to prevent the flash frame. You would have to edit it out. Don't get the K-3, they are junk. You would be much more happy with the Bolex. They are simple, well built and will provide years of trouble free filming. Just try to get a "reflex" model.

  • im having trouble focusing my pan cinor lens. actually, i don't really know how to go about it. there's not plateglass to check the view finder against, like on different bolexes ive used.

  • How much should you compensate for light loss? For example if my light meter says f11 or f4 what should i set the exposure to on the camera? Also, does the frame speed effect how much I should compensate?

  • Light loss is about 20% - 25%. Open open up about +1/3 at 24 FPS.

Frame rate does effect exposure. You will need to open up more at higher speeds. That will all depend on what speed and what film you're using.

If in doubt use the "Sunny 16 rule".

  • whats the sunny 16 rule?

  • When using a beam splitter system, I usually just lie to the light meter and go down one ASA value (If I'm using a ASA 100 film, I tell the meter ASA 80 because each ASA increment equals 1/3 of a stop).

  • i need a little help . you seem to know alot about cameras. im trying to sell a H-16 leader what would be a good price of letting it go for

  • This is a bolex h16 relfex 16mm?

  • yes, its a Bolex Reflex.

  • looks fantastic.

Im shooting a film using same camera and stock... any tips for the using the bolex properly?? also did you develop this yourself?

  • The footage looks better than it does on here. The compression ruins it. Just make sure to adjust for the prisim light loss.

I had it processed and transfered to MiniDV by Cinelab.

  • Yes sell it and buy an Arriflex 16ST or BL.
