All these brave veterans, all of them deserve the Medal of Honor. These veterans I respect the most out of all the other military veterans, because these brave men saved the world from the evil reign of Adolf Hitler and his murderous Nazis, Benito Mussolini from the ruthless Fascist blackshirts, and from Hideki Tojo and his insane Imperial soldiers. God bless you all Allied veterans. These are real heroes. Not sports players, politicians, actors, etc. These are the faces of a real hero!!
to me, these guys are celebrities for real. I've seen tv 'celebs' in the street before but I don't feel that significance as I do when I see and speak to ww2 vets. they are like superheroes
Its human logic to look for the bad things before the good thing. If you want to see something, you will see it. I am an american, i respect every other country in the world its what most of them deserve. If another ally of the united states asked the military to help them fight thier war like ww2, i would. Dont dislike america just becuase of the moronic americans you see on tv, theres others, like me.
Great Job and video. I'm from Carter County and once went to church with a man who was on a glider and landed at Normandy on D-Day... Amazing we have so many heros right here in our home towns. Awesome video!
It amazes me that so many countries dislike us. We are the world police, and that is for a good reason. we are genuinenly good people and we do care about
world peace. Yes our country is money driven, but what country isn't? Can you imagine any other superpower controlling the globe? I couldn't.
It's the attitude of Americans that think they are "controlling" the globe or acting as the world police that people dislike the U.S.
White people thought they were superior to blacks, and now the U.S. thinks that they are superior to the world. You might not think like that because you are an American, but being someone who is on the outside looking in, that's what I think about America. I'm sure there are many others who think the same way as well. Nothing against the soldiers.
@theyear2102 For reasons like this. Some people in the USA have this way of saying thing that they come off as pretentious and "the-world-would-be-shit-without-us" kind of way. I love the US too, but comments like these are why so many countries dislike you.
my grandpa was in world war 2 in pearl harbor hes 87 years old i asked if he could tell me some things about what happend and he couldnt because it was to painful to think about
my 8th grade field trip to D.C. we visited the World War II memorial there I saw a veteran standing near the fountain and i approached him, shook his hand and said thank you...a bunch of kids behind me saw what i did and they all went over and did the same...as i left i saw a tear go down his face. it was honestly one of the most honorable moments of my life.
Im in high school, and I hate it when we have a sub thats from Vietnam and the first think one of the kids ask them is, did you kill people. How disrespectful. Im part of this new generation and theres no respect at all. I almost got in a fight with a kid like that, I told him to respect his elders and respect what this man did for you and me and our country. Of course that kid thought he was cool so he didnt take that so well. I stood up and shook that old mans hand and said thank you.
@EarnhardtsYear08 if only there were more teenagers like you. u have got it figured out my man. keep respecting your elders and never forget what the older generation did for us. and u will lead a great life, and i promise u that. our generation is SHIT compared to theirs. im also in high school and have the same ideas that u stated. i wish i could've been born in like 1948, instead of 1993. cause this time we are living in SUCKS DICK
since this video was made in 2008, then most of these veterans must still be alive, right? that's awesome. everyone always says there is under 100 ww2 veterans in america. and that is bullshit, there are lots. right?
@strokesday Ehh, their numbers are getting fewer and fewer. Most that are still alive where younger and not nco's or officers. Most are Atleast 80-90 years old. Most won't be around for the next 10 years.
@EarnhardtsYear08 we do, but if you really look around, there are a lot left. in my town there are 6 ww2 veterans alive. they are great great men, and they are healthy and look like they could live to 400 years old. don't ever count an older person out. they are part of the best generation of this country, and i wish they could all live forever.
I hope to see the BSA develop this idea and make it a national program to encourage Eagle Scout Award candidates to take on this project with all the energy it deserves.
There could even be a merit badge on Preservation of Personal Histories of WW2 Veterans.
hey 120c7ock if the germans won the jewish race would have been wiped out and possibly... no not possibly in fact the whole world would be evil nazis hitler only wanted power and would kill anyone to get it i would shake hands with each and every soldior of the alli forces all the vetrans in canada, USA, Uk ,USSR, so vetrans of the winnig team of world war 2 ( us) thank you so much the world would not be what it is today without you guys.
My Pop (dad) is a WW II Disabled EX-POW VET.He was a gunner on a B-24 Bomber.Survived one crash landing, parachuted out on another mission and spent a year as a POW.
Thank you for defending our country. I wonder what the world would be if the Germans won. The sad thing is they aren't going to be around much longer. R.I.P. those who have died in the battle field I may not even know you but I respect you so much
@69stringibanez I know that many were. It definitely shaped forever those who lived through it. I just watch documentaries like Ken Burns' "The War", and I think about the men who didn't make it through. It did not get the best of everyone who lived through it, however. Men like Richard Winters (R.I.P.) and Louis Zamperini, for example, did not let it steal the best of them away. They managed to make good of this terrible situation. That is a testament, I think, to the God that they serve.
@GeetarAdam If you kill a man your life will forever be twisted beyond what me or you can understand. Many men come back and live normal happy lives but those memories haunt them when they sleep or whenever anything reminds them of that. Im not trying to disagree with what you siad I'm just saying that you never will fully recover after taking a human life....if you do then you are an evil person.
According to the 2000 US census there were 5,739,000 World War 2 veterans still living in the US. A separate census taken by the Veterans Admin. named VetPop2001, totalled the WW2 vets as 5,603,000.
The lowest age for a veteran from World War 2 would be about 79 years old in 2009. (There were several 15-year-olds found to have lied about their ages to enlist in 1945.)

grrrrt video!! It gave me some ideas on a similar project I'm working here-Stevens County, Minnesota!! Are there "expanded" videos on some of these individual stories? I was curious about the ending on the "red part of the flag"... (15:25-16:00) from this guy, which I've seen the movie (Flags of Our Fathers) already on this particular battle.
My father was a WWII vet - went through the Battle of the Bulge. He actually started to talk about his experiences a few years before he died in his late 70s. There's a part of me that wished he hadn't talked about those things.
this was really wonderful. thank you so much. My father was a WWII vet; however he died when I was young so I never was able to ask any questions. As a nurse that now works in older adult health, I do take the opportunity to hear these oral histories with some of my patients.
