Trap has been a great manager for Ireland. He brought us to the brink of qualification for the World Cup and the Euros are on our doorstep. We have a very average squad (Given, Dunne & Keane are our best). Qualifying for any International tournament is huge for a country with just 4m people. I don't care how we qualify. I just want to watch International tournaments w/ Ireland in it.
Giovanni Trapattoni is playing to his strengths with what he's got. Ireland at the minute don't have the technical players that Spain Germany and Holland have at their disposal, what they DO have is one of the best goalkeepers in the premiership, a solid defence and the ability to break at speed and a deadly striker, they don't have the technical players to play in the style of a Spain or Holland. The playing style is not pretty but effective.
wow Eamon Dunphy saying he's the best appointment in the history of Irish football. Now he slags him off for playing defensive football with average players :P
only manager in HISTORY of game to win ALL INTERNATIONAL CLUB competions ( FIFA world title,UEFA champions cup,cup winners, uefa cup & super cup) compare that to all other eire managers none of them won a single professional trophy between them, and compare it to the irish genius called eamon dunphy whos greatest football achievements was playing 240 games for millwall in the OLD SECOND DIVISION and he was even SHIT in that league
@wexfordboyful "eire managers none of them won a single professional trophy " you sad wanker. Asworth won the league with Liverpool, Mckenna, look up Patrick O' Connell, he won the league managing Real Betis, Sevilla, and also Barcelona who won a host of trophies under him. Martin O' Neill. give it a rest you prick.
Trade Union leaders challenged the accuracy of immigration figures in Sept. 2007. ICTU said the 2006 census count of 11,000 Chinese in Irl was far short of the 100,000 observers said are actually here. The census said 63,000 Poles, the Polish embassy said the real number was as high as 200,000.
source:Sunday Times 2/09/09
So 10 times the number of Chinese, 3.5 times the number of Poles, how many more Africans, Pakistanis etc, are here above what is stated?
( end of 80s ) revolutioned & created modern football , they have been the most offensive minded & spectacular team in last 35 years , their way of playing attack football is an unbeatable model till nowadays and every world manager tries to rip it someway .
False & naive clichès never helped in being rational ....
Eamonn Dunphy has chanced his mind about Trapattoni now just because the irish football team didnt beat italy. just show the muppet doesnt know wehat he's talking about
he's after picking the wrong team again. I don't understand his mentality. Andy Reid has been playing great and Steven Reid is almost back to full fitness. He's a great tactician, but picks the wrong players. He's too defensive minded
Bullshit. What paper did you read that striff from? No offence. The fact is he may be defencive minded to a certain extent but all managers are.. I can bet you any money "in this case youtube euros!" that ireland will beat france next Saturday and you'd take that comment back, but that when france score first you'll talk of how dirt trapatoni is
That's the Italian style of football, but with all due respect, his approach has gotten Ireland pretty far. I will be routing for Ireland, they deserve a World Cup ticket.
Good luck to Ireland from Italy. I am a huge Trap fan and he, as well as the Ireland football nation, deserves a trip to South Africa. Now go and beat those French fuckers!!!
therefore, we essentially have to choose from the players we have rather than going on and on about andy reid and stephen ireland because i certainly know that there are talented players in the irish under 21s that are capable of emulating their form in the irish senior team.
trapattoni is a great man. there is nothing he can do about stephen irelands absense and andy reid is a fat sunderland subsitute so anyone who tries to make him out to be some kind of messiah is kidding themselves.
ye i agree mate he wasnt even playin for sunderland bt one can make the argument that glenn whelan wasnt playin for stoke before xmas bt was still gettin picked..y i dnt no? ive already made my feeelings clear bou glenn whelan aneways. the central midfield has to be completely revamped if we're to have a chance in this world cup. the nigeria friendly is actually really crucial despite being a friendly. trap can learn a lot from this game if he uses subs wisely.
the thing is, with a small country there is a small squad so its all about availability. keith andrews and stephen reid would be the best central midfield if everyone was fit. (of course not including stephen ireland). I think trap basically thought why risk certain players he doesnt know about, he works on his system and he picks players who have worked with him and understood his system. Like you say the friendly will give him a chance to look at other players such as ward and foley in defence
I think Trapattoni has done really well. Not attractive football but he's getting goals in the last 5 minutes, and I cant see Bulgaria catching us even if they win in June.
Cant see Stephen Ireland coming back at this stage. Terrible shame really.
But let's be fair. He hasnt done much good so far. Hes been fair lucky to be honest. Noel Hunt for Kevin doyle... caleb folan. i dont know. We should of pressed home at 1-0 up against bulgaria and now were in a heap of trouble but if he gets us through. Ill take it back : )
To be honest I would take results and playing like crap over no results and playing great soccer... yes I think we should have pressed home the advantage over bulgaria but still a draw away in Italy was a great one!!!
Yeah fair enough. But if we go to the world cup with out our talented midfield (andy reid, steve reid and ireland) we wont be a very formidable side. With that midfield we would be a top side which makes it so frustrating to watch irish football. Cause we have a great side but we never seem to utilize it
To be honest I am living in Canada right now and I dont get to see any of the games, just listen to people back home about it. If he's not playing Steven Ireland then he's either mad, or he has something up his sleeve. Steven Reid is quality and I think should be given a chance, but who knows what goes on behind closed doors? Andy Reid is injury prone (even doubtful this weekend for blackburns game at Wigan) but he looks like he should do a job for us...! Only time will tell I guess.
Heh heh, you're lagging behind a bit on the set up at the mo. Steven ireland doesnt want to play for Ireland, steven reid is injured and trapattoni simply wont pick andy reid. God knows why. So we wont be seeing any of those 3 any time soon
well stephen reid will hopefully will be back for the game against italy. fingers crossed because we were playing really fluid football against georgia and montenegro when he was in the team. if we can go to the world cup having settled on a central midfield containing stephen reid and either darron gibson, james mccarthy, owen garvan, chris mccann or keith fahey, then ill be very happy and think we'll have a solid midfield. i agree with ya mate. we do have the talent we jus have to utilize it.
whelan and andrews are just not up to the standard and im awfully surprised that trap hasnt lost patience with them. one only has to look at the impact that young gibson made against italy when he came on as sub to know that he deserves to be startin. its an insult to him that a stoke and blackburn player are starting over a player like him playing for the best club team in the world.
Your playing well this season for Man City, I'd love to see you put on the Ireland jersey again and I'll be in the crowd cheering you and the team on.
I think the chances of sucess for ireland is still 50/50. A good manager can make a big difference but in the end the players need to do it for you. If anything ireland will be properly organised but he needs players like ireland and finnan to get on side and give it there all.
typical british attitude , quite ridiculous and idiotic I must say : taking a single bad result as main point to arguing the opposite of true facts . Trapattoni leaded Salzburg to win their home league in 2007 and I doubt that the best thing to Irish football would be any less experienced coach .
I think he will be successful as Irish manager, I heard somewhere that only Alex Ferguson has more top trophies, and managers don't just lose what they had like players do.
True, and his spell as the Italian national manager wasn't the best either, but apart from those his track record seems pretty solid. In any case he's gonna do better than Staunton.
His footballing success is relevant because its what demands the respect, but the players who in my opinion are good(not great but good) will play for him.
Let's hope so! When you consider how far we got in 2002 with McCarthy, it's not out of the question. Things are shaping up nicely with Liam Brady on board, and hopefully Stephen Ireland and Steve Finnan back in the team. It's looking very promising when you compare the current state of affairs to how things were under Staunton.
"It's like y'know one of those things you get at Christmas, Bill, where they all have to be put together....it's in a box...and it all falls out on the floor. Are you talking about a jigsaw??"

when he can't or he has no possibility to do the same " Helenio Herrera Catenaccio originally came from Switzerland,
it was created by a manager named Rappan and then some Italian managers improved it . Defensive football is not
the italian style of playing : some of the most spectacular games of all times have been played by Italy's national team and Italian club teams .
