around june 24 I had a chance to test drive the insight, I found it quiet and the view window didnt consider that much of a issue.

@gtahoer no, honda made the first hybrid, then discontinued it. then made a new one. you can see in comparisons, that when the insight came out, the old prius was still being sold. so honda made the original design, and toyota copied it, making it look really bad, just like hyundai

i drove it early on this month, and found the visibility sucks. Because of the fact of the trunk window is seperated by a bar. Which you really only have a tiny window to look through.

You get used to it. If you set your mirror to the top window, you get the best visibility.

I am with you on the styling, its not the best looking car. Besides the only reason people buy these cars are that they think it will save them money, or it will better their appearance by being more {Green}. When really these cars are more harmful to the environment than a normal Honda Civic. I wonder how much its costs to have the batteries replaced in this?

It will save us a lot of money. This car will be sold for less than 20000 dollars and it will be making 40-45 miles per gallon minimum. What else do you want? 40-45 mpg will save you a lot of more,simply because gas will go up again to the 4-5 dollars per gallon. We need to put as many of these cars on the streets as possible. The more the better.

You can get a better diesel engine with more horsepower that does 45-60 mpg in a VW. Plus it will look alot better.

Your dreaming if you think the prices will stay low.... they only went down becuase the US would've had to completly shut down if not, the prices are goin right back up and maybe even exceeding the last high in the next 1-2 years. I would buy a 10,000 eco car and save the rest of your money for gas, this hybrid isn't going to be worth it at 45mpg.

i have an 03 insight and was extremely excited to hear honda was re-releasing this car, but am totally disappointed that it's a 4 door. insightV2 will get 45 mpg because it's a civic that looks like a prius... serves the same market as the civic hybrid- This car is just to get back at toyota for their 04 prius redesign, undeniably influenced by the orig insight. This is honda's prius killer. so what's ACTUALLY replacing the insight? the 2 door hatchback Honda CR-Z which had better beat 57mpg!!

When prius and founder insight appear. It was said that the hybrid vehicle was a deficit according to sales if it sold it. HONDA suppressed the number of sales by the design.

Toyota violated a high risk, and invested. And, it won in this field. Insight only adheres in the prius back.

This has nothing to do with the environment, it has to do with people wanting to go further for less money at the pumps. so in the end it's all about money still. As for environmental impact, if these things take off like hot bread, guarantee more land will be destroyed, as they dig for more minerals and precious metals to build these battery packs.

I support the re-introduction of the Honda Insight. Offering a Hybrid vehicle that is priced below the market value of the other ones available will make this vehicle really launch. While the looks are going to have to grow on me, the purpose behind the design of the new Insight Hybrid was to lower the drag of the vehicle to increase the gas miseage. I give it three thumbs up!

There are several ways to work with aerodynamics, I think this shape is just synonymous with Hybrid cars.

Youre right that vehicles dont have to be shaped like an egg to be aerodynamic but that particular shape happens to be great for what theyre trying to accomplish with those cars. Super cars are designed for speed and stability not fuel efficiency. They are shaped they way they are to minimize drag aswell as lift. Cars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis you may notice also all have a common shape.

Its too bad I cant fit squeeze my family of five into a Lambo..

btw- The Ferrari F430 has a drag coefficient of 0.34 and the Insight still has the lowest drag coefficient of any production car made to date @ 0.25. Its too bad, GMs EV1 would have taken that record with its 0.195 had it ever made it to production.

Lithium battery being tested by both Honda and Toyota scrapped earlier this year because of over heating and safety issues.

Toyota is focusing on plug in car. Honda on developing GX Hydrogen Fueled vehicle. Hybrid technology is going to stay the same for awhile.

Lame... This NEW reintorduced Honda "Insight" is just a "Toyota Prius" rip-off, As they say if you cant "Beat them" and (Honda hasnt been able to with its Honda Civi Hybrid).. Then "Join them" by reintroducing a discontinued 2 seater model with 4 seats the NEW "Honda Insight" and COPY the "Toyota Prius's" styling almost completely to pull away Toyota Prius customers.... Maybe. Look at the 2009 Nissan Maxima. I would say it looks a lot like the 2009 Accord. The front end treatment, the rear part of the side glass how it curves and hits a 90 degree angle like the Accord. I'd say the 09 Maxima has a lot of styling cues from Honda!

They have no choice really. The shape is aerodynamic to up the fuel economy, which is the car's purpose.
