  • that esx is running an fp green setup.. it aint 300whp.. its closer to 400 with the right tune... and thats how it comes "stock" from a subaru dealer... esx is the "saleen" or "cobra" of subarus... so stock esx vs stock 04 cobra...the esx will always win. unless you modified the cobra which is an awesome car also.

  • Dude, a stock 04 Cobra can easily take an STi from anything but a dig. They're not much heavier and they have quite a bit more power (to say the least).

    That was the anniversary of the mustang so they came out with the terminator, which was a rock solid motor to say the least.

  • Hmmm, I would disagree. If you're talking about an 04 terminator cobra against a stock STi from anything but a dig (with equal drivers) I'd give the edge to the Termi every time. Hell, with a good driver the Terminator still might hang with the stock STi in the 1/4.

  • @firmitthekrog I would say that a term would almost always take an sti in the 1/4. I drive a sti (mine is a good ways from stock) and I do know it has very little oomph later in the power band, but I do think that the sti might be able to contend with a term in the 1/8

  • these esx's do work. my dad bought one at an auction for car dealers for only 24, sold it to a uguy in russia for 30. im not suprised the cobra got worked.

  • 150hp, extra... that aint that much... i have a 400hp 2006 wrx... i think it is very slow... i need to get a bigger turbo, i only have a 20gTD06 and its too small.

  • I have recently come to LOVE the pignose man. In stock form I honestly prefer the 04-05, but as soon as you mod the pignose it looks fantastic.

    Any plans for a gt35r? Cosworth longblock maybe? PPG gears? Beast mode?

    Do yourself a favor and crack a book open before you post anything else, it might help out in the future.

    As for the "150 extra horsepower" claim, the car in that vid dyno'd out @ just over 300awhp, and that was after an additional modification was made (replaced BOV with one that wasn't leaking boost)....

  • So your cute "150hp" claim just became right about 60hp, that's taking into consideration the 240ish whp average STI dyno numbers.

    Now, I feel like I should let you know that there are 2 different versions of the Esx STi, a road-going version that is street legal in all 50 states, and a much faster track-only version. The track only version had a claimed hp of 450, although I have yet to see any proof of that claim being true.

  • I assure you that it is a real esx sti. They really aren't all that fast. I mean, of course they're faster than a stock sti, but most of the money you pay for them isn't for added power but the redone interior, paint, and the rarity. The guy that owned it is in an 07 sti now and I think so far he's spent $2k on parts (yet to be installed) that should out perform the esx without a problem.

    They really are overrated, most subie fans will tell you that (at least I would hope so).

  • It's not that I think that subies are slow, I actually love 04-05 sti's with a passion.. I just think that if you have to choose between an evo or an sti to mod you should choose the evo every time simply because you get more hp per dollar invested.

    No, the esx is not that fast. The guy that sold it to my friend told him that it was 425whp and all this other jazz and it was pretty much an impulse buy on his part. We saw it as we were waiting for a cobb exhaust to be installed on his 04 sti (which got traded in for the esx, which got traded in for an 07 civic si).

  • The guy that sold it to him lied. If you go onto the ESX website you can see that is silly. ESX mods top out at around 360hp for anything 50 state legal.

  • Yeah, we figured that out later on. It was kind of an impulse buy on my buddies behalf.. He went in to have some mods done to his 04 sti and the esx was just sitting in the showroom floor, so he traded out. Found out later when he dyno'd at just over 300whp that the dude was lying his ass off.

  • I raced an esx with my 350+ HP STi. I smoked him big time off the line. That car isn't fast.

  • What all do you have done to your sti? 475 whp isn't exactly easy to obtain in an sti.. it takes quite a bit of money and patience. I know obtaining 475 whp in an evo isn't that expensive/hard at all, but sti's are a lot harder to get that high.

  • What planet are you on? Not only are Subie mods about the same as a Evo, they are MORE reliable. I agree that an EJ does not do well over 400hp on a stock bottom end, but neither does an evo for long. 475 whp is totally achieveable. Try googling something before you make a statement like that.

  • Not true, up untill the 2007 STi's. HP per mod, evos are king. Being a previous STi owner, why would I lie when I say I believe the two best 4 cylinder engines are Hondas K series motors, and the Mitsubishi 4g63 variants.

  • Ive actually never driven a k series but I like my 5eat2.5T waaaay better than the old 4g63 I had. Maybe I am getting old.

  • I agree. Drivability of the Subarus 2.5 liter motor is WAYYY BETTER than the 4g63. Much more low end torque.

  • Doesn't have the high end ear grinning yank at the end like the 4g63, but for "squirting" around traffic its WAYYY BETTER... Personally I like the small fast spooling turbo, makes the little engine feel like a bigger engine without the weight of a bigger engine

  • You actually get 2 positives with the Subaru. 1st, bigger engine, with a smallish turbo so it spools faster, and 2nd, the intercooler piping is next to none so you dont have as much lag pressurizing the intercooler piping and intercooler before you feel the turbo "kick in".
