There is at least one pretty important difference between the current Iranian leadership and the old USSR. @metromotor They don't have the manpower that we do. Nukes are fine, but Israel can't shoot nukes at enemy combatants in close proximity to their own citizens (radiation). They also don't have enough manpower to deal with Syria, Egypt, Iran, and Hezbollah, if a coordinated invasion were to take place. They also don't have enough manpower to deal with Syria, Egypt, Iran, and Hezbollah, if a coordinated invasion were to take place. Israel is literally surrounded by their enemies on all sides (except for the coast, of course), and, in my humble opinion, we cannot afford to not support our most trusted ally in the middle east.

It really is that simple. Many of the ruling elites in the Islamic world want to re-establish the caliphate. Prior to '67, Palestine never existed as we know it, and using that name would be referring to the Jews themselves. It derives from the name Philistine (who where the jews enemies), that was given to the area by the romans in 70 AD to erase the jewish heritage. It was revived after the Arabs got their asses kicked in the '67 war and Egypt and Jordan lost their holdings in Gaza and West Bank, respectively.

We need to cut foreign aid and bring money back to our own people while keeping defense funding alive BUT at our own boarders. Our boarders are weak compared to what they could be and we are more vulnerable by being every else on the planet but here. @TheoryByDesign I dont see them bothering to stop Iran from getting its Nukes. And, with Hezbollah operations in South America and Irans proposal to have their warships operating off our coass, all those fancy tanks and planes wont help one bit to save the people on the recieving end of a terrorists nuke. On top of this, theyre cutting the missle defense program to save money. Its never been more critical to have a good defense of the homeland, and we dont have that.

@TheoryByDesign If you only concentrate on defending the boarders, that wont help much. How will that stop an ICBM? How will it stop the middle-east from descending to bedlam and posing a threat to Europe, the US, and the rest of the world? While all out war isnt needed there, we do need to be using a contain and control policy with the middle-east to keep the crazies where they belong. These people dont want us out, they want us dead, and theyre willing to do anything to see it through.

Meaning we can attack and invade any country deemed a threat without Congressional approval which = billions of dollars spend, thousands of American and civilians lives lost. You go on about nonsense about ICBMs when none of the countries were engaged with have the capabilities to create one and if they did they would be wiped off the face of the earth f they tried to use it. @Firetribez Iran already HAS ICBMs and probably has nuclear warheads from the USSR. Theyve also tested cruise and conventional missle systems as well. Last time I checked, theyre still there, and crazier than ever. Containment doesnt mean pre-emptive war, it just means being willing to take a stand when they decide to attack israel, or push farther into africa to establish more Islamic theocracies. It also means being willing to stop the demographic and legal spread of Islam (ie sharia).

Us leaving the world arena leaves a massive power vacuum, which is why we see what we're seeing around the world. China is no friend, and I would not want them to be the dominate superpower influencing most of the world. Forget about being thirsty, you'll be a pile of bleached bones if China, Russia, and the new Caliphate all have a stranglehold on the world's resources.

If China is really growing militarily, then it's only in reaction to the US military presence surrounding them in Japan, Korea and Guam. And to compare spending, the US government spends 5 times more than them on military. They just don't want to be the next global hegemone - employing a billion ppl is their top priority.

@shadowbankers There are some things I think he is spot on about, but he doesnt know anything outside of US politics or the current conflicts around the world, which would make him a foreign policy disaster. We've already had that with Bush and to a much larger extent Obama. I dont want a trifecta of international disaster. We dont need war all the time, but we do need smart decision making abroad.
