Is it ok to let my parent lovebirds do this? Will the babies still take from the syringe because I want them to be very tame, but at the same time I feel bad that the parents got their chicks taken away?
@lostintravise so in "pulling" them you're just making sure the babies are full? I'm not an aspiring breeder - just a Conure owner - but I'm just curious as to how things work. thanks for taking the time to reply! :)
I know this is off topic, but how do you keep the parents tame while they bond to each other enough to breed? Thanks so much for all the informative posts and videos!!
I have a female lutino peach faced lovebird and I really want to get another one. I got Barnaby (my current birdie) hand fed from a breeder. Is it true her "pet quality" will be negatively effected if I introduce another bird? I don't want to breed, I just want pets.
Co-Parenting! Sounds like an excellent idea, especially since there has emerged a lack of consensus among "parrot behaviourists" as regards hand feeding. I know several who are against it, claiming this leaves too much of a "human imprint" on the birds. I had not heard of "co-parenting" before, but it sure seems like a promising compromise!
All your vids are excellent. My 2 first time parents have had 4 babies and I want to pull them asap as its cold outside where their cage is. If I do at 10 days of age, can I feed them last at 11pm & next at 4am, or will it have 2 be more often?? Altho I have no exp I am stay at home mum and am confident I can. Also I am scared to touch the babes as I think she may disown them at this early stage. You are a fantastic person and such a good mum to all the little baby birds.
Babies are fighting and the dad is feeding them fast LoooooLz xD

How long do you guys allow your breeders to breed and have babies? As in when you stop them before it becomes dangerous towards their health? 10?

how often do you let the parents do this after you've pulled the babies?
lostintravise 1 year ago
@lostintravise Their parents know their babies and spend time with them every day from birth to wean.

@lostintravise No, not full, just used to humans. The tamer a bird the better life they will have living with humans.

If you put the time in to socialize each bird then they will stay tame.
