I know a lot about this painting it's my mom's and you nay sayers have no idea what your talking about. put it this way we have so much evidince that if it were a muder trial someones going to the gas chamber. the art world won't except it because it will put a lot of experts out of a job. no more "well, it would feel like a pollock if I had 10k in my hand"
@Blackswamp233 : cool, I'll read it, first page was great.
I don't really know anything about this except what I read after. Really, that's the goal, but the game starts with an honest impression. The art experts in the movie (selected by the producers, of course) don't have much concrete criticism. They could have someone deny that the print is his... and afaik they have, and the movie didn't interview that guy.
Have you seen his Blue Poles painting? In my mind a Masterpiece. Extraordinary. But thats a major work and some minor works of great artist are not of equal value. Although have monetary value through association.....
@wtmeighan : I totally see how it's great (I just looked it up, i'm not familiar enough to know by name though I've seen a bunch casually over the years... I imagine in person it's amazing in terms of the detail and he really uses this as a technique, obviously, not an easy way out... but I just don't feel the colors he uses... lol
@TWITfromURANUS : I like the patterns, I've come to realize all drip painting is not the same, and his was pretty special.
it took a long time to see that because I just don't like the same pallettes as he does... I think I need to photoshop some pollocks and get some green and blue in the house.
Regarding the Pollack documentary, it sounds like a very interesting analysis of "Orthodoxy & Heresy;" the art world certain that the painting in question did not fit the received 'definition' (?) of Pollock's art work. And as (perhaps) the supreme juges of what is art and what is not, still refusing to admit that they are fallible. However, the surfing documentary sounds disgusting to me, the story of a man who chooses a lifestyle and then forces it on his children. Where was their choice?
@Ujames1978 : Ujames: I might not have made clear, but he created a dysfunctional situation, the familly is not close... he admits he did not give his kids the chances to succeed, and they know it.
OTOH, it's an interesting point that he could have been a controlling asshole in suburbia too, and screwed them up more than being one on the beach. Many of the kids have been able to thrive. Anyway "a man who chooses a lifestyle and then forces it on his children" is the theme.
@pyrrho314 : mind you many have "succeeded"... they were pro surfers, artists, producers... so it's a little relative... but still, he was controlling and limiting... it's thought provoking though because it's not entirely simple.

Have seen "Surfwise" because you recommended it. Will definitely be a screen memory. What a brave new world that has such documentaries in it.

@hyperseauton : the world of documentaries is full of excellent journalism and op-ed both. It's really one of the gems we have in our media.

So... does anyone dispute it's his thumbprint?

@pyrrho314 I'm no expert, I just like what I've seen by him; so very rich, deep, meditations... I can get lost in stuff like that.
