For the record, John DOES sing. he just chose not to for this tribute, which was perfect. His and Stevie Wonder's performances were the best for Michael, imo. I didn't care for the yelling and cheering for Mike, though. I know it was held in Staples, but this wasn't a ball game.

I was sent an link on this. John talks about why he did not sing, but does not say when he made that choice. Part of me thinks it was on the spot....Notice the background vocals are there, which I would not expect if it was a planned instrumental.

Also, interestingly enough, John says he was greatly honored to do this partly due to the fact he had never personally met Michael.
