Great-Grandpa was a philippine scout when the war started. He fought hard on Bataan, fighting on Mt. Samat. When the Imperial Japanese took Bataan, he managed to escape capture and went underground, became a resistance fighter. Grandma remembers him sneaking into their hometown Morong when the Japanese occupied it, giving rice when he could when the soldiers ate it all. After liberation the US Army formally discharged him from service, and was reunited with his family. I wish I could've met him.
