  • Arkansas Traveler, Iowa Stubborn, Mississippi Mud, Carolina Moon, Somewhere In Old Wyoming, Deep In the Heart Of Texas, Missouri Waltz, Back Home Again In Indiana, Blue Moon Of Kentucky, Tennessee Waltz, Alabamy Bound, etc..etc, I LOVE those state songs.

  • Just found this. Best version of Arkansas Traveler that I've heard. Devilishly good.

  • she rocks

  • How is the fiddle tuned? Sounds more classical than folk. do me so do?

  • NICE!

  • Loved the fiddle but the guitarist was a little shy.

  • i can do that! :D yay me

  • that's got to be a viola, or your 3 feet tall. liked it:)

  • Can't hear guitar so well, but man. Great fiddlin'

  • Excellent rendition of a classic tune. Thanks!

  • good job !!

me and my friends can play this just not dounle stringed!!

  • Bluegrass = Irish + Scottish blend. Us hill folk can trace our roots to both. Yep. Love that song.

  • wonderful !!!!

  • dang, why don't you live closer! haha! I would love to hear you fiddle it up live!!!! xo: )

  • has to be about the best fiddle rendition of arkansas traveller i have heard on here, or anywhere else for that matter, must be near the top of anyone's list.

  • Now that's what I call Fiddling!! Great!

  • great fiddle and great feel. wish i had you in my band.

  • I never thought of "soaring" as a likely characterization of this tune, but man, this soars--especially the B part. Inspiring. Imho, the acoustics of that place only help the soaring. Thanks!

  • Awesome! Great job.

  • Thanks! I play Irish trad on fiddle but am needing to learn this tune and you're helping me catch on - great playing - both of you.

  • courtins on window would absorb some of that tinny sound

  • learning how to spell would help YOU sound less"tinny";)

  • It's a viola strung like a violin. E A D G Sounds great. I play a 15" five string viola. E A D G C. Violin strings will fit on a 15" viola with fine tuners. Or use three viola strings and a loop end .010 string for the E.

  • Very nice job! Ha I first thought viola too but when I heard it I know it was a violin -- obviously the fiddler is petite so the instrument looks deceptively large. Fun to listen to.

  • thinking in having an mp3 version :-)

  • You Rock! I'd pay to say you live

  • Good performance - congrats!

  • it's a fiddle

  • it is a viola

  • no it's not , haha. Do you play viola?

  • oh god, no. stick to your vivaldi and so forth. don't try to fit good ole american folk tunes into a candlelit dinner dress suit.

  • What's wrong with that? I think she's doing well.

  • it is not a viola you dummy !

  • ''once upon a time in arkansas an old man sat at his little cabin door and fiddled out a tune he liked to hear, a jolly tune that he playe by ear. it was raining hard but the fiddler didn't care he sawed away a jolly old air. his roof it leaked like a waterfall, it didn't bother the man at all.'' those were the lyrics. very nice, do you agree? it must be so hard to play that on an instument! that was so awesome. it blew my mind. I loved that i sang it for my school concert in the spring time. :)

  • i sang that in my school concert, inspired by this video.

  • is that a viola? looks too big for a violin!

  • Does anyone know if that is a violin or a viola? I know that traditionally a fiddle is a violin but in the video it looks more like a viola. I also know that fiddling can be done on the viola.

  • It's a violin. The strings went really high close to the middle of the vid. ^^

  • thank you. i really had no idea. that is a pretty big violin though.

  • The intonation on the fiddle is excellent...nice and clean.

    Pretty girl...but boring skirt!

And why can't the guy on the guitar learn it by heart???

  • If there was some way to cram the other half of that last star in there I'd do it. Very nice.

  • wait for her to really get into the song a little later in the recording- HOLY COW this is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Job Lady!

  • great music, but wer's da words.

  • i just did a orchetra concet with this song. i was playing n the bass with the hard part. its really hard.

  • inspiring!

  • we are playing this in our orchestra right now, and it's great to hear the violin solo part the fast way!!! I LOVE the sound of your violin, it is so smooth and sweet. Great job.

  • you got that one up , down , and sideways! It is so good to hear a tune that reveals the fidddlers unique perspective . Always follow the melody !!!

  • we're playing that song in orchestra, it's really fun:]

  • lol so are we !!!

  • my orchestras doing it right now though theres only 2 cello including myself

  • one cello in our class

  • Great jammin' with ya!

  • Wow! The next Marie Rhines! More!

Funny, the comment below about not being a concert song... I was immediately struck by how wonderfully full and glorious this fiddle sound is ~ instantly reminding me of one of my all-time favorite "fiddlers", the classically-trained Marie Rhines (Tartans and Sagebrush, Biscuit City Records, '79.)

It's a sound and a style that's unique and stunning. I hope this woman and her music go far. I'm looking for more now!

Thanks to the musicians & the poster!

  • wow!!!

  • This is not a concert song. Pretend you are on the back porch on a Saturday night drinking moonshine!! Now - GO GIRL

    Great job!!

  • (clap,clap,clap,clap,clap,clap,clap,clap,clap) ...My applause...

    Bravo,Bravo,Well done!

  • wish i could play it like that! very good

  • Awesome! Fantastic! Great fiddle playing! Great guitar pickin! Did I say AWESOME!

  • The Vern Williams Band version of this song is the best IMHO. This was great but I like the drive the banjo break brings.

  • tht wiolin looks like a viola

  • viola, its big.

  • violin or viola??

  • hey, do you have the sheet music for this piece for the violin at all?

    much appreciated :D x

  • Mine is just tuned GDAE

  • Very nicely done. I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I am trying to learn this tune. How is the instrument tuned? I am tuned EADG and I can't get my fingers to cross across fast enough to pull off the high end sequence.

  • This is cool! For some reason in the beginning it looks like they are playing in a one room school in the winter. Gives it a country look. Good playing as well, that fiddle/viola has a good sound. Its good the guitar doesn't over ride the fiddle but I think a flatpick might have gave the rhyhthm section a better presence, and thats coing from a fingerpicker.

  • I,m confused. Sounds like a fiddle with the tune in the traditional key, but it sure looks like a viola.

  • She's good. hehe, she's really petite too. that violin looks like a viola in her hands

  • wow!! bravo!! good job:D i really liked that!! Hey just one question, Is that a viola? cuz it seems really big....but idk, i play the fiddle and the guitar so i really liked that, good job with the back up (talking to guitar guy)! And that whole piece was great so good job to both of you:D!!

  • i'm from arkansas my self makes want to start playing with my arkansas tooth pick and arkansas bowie knife lol

  • Excellent intonation and fiddle work! Very pretty arrangement with taking the bridge down an octave. Should try a flatpick for the guitar.

  • This is not a concert song. Pretend you are on the back porch on a Saturday night drinking moonshine!! Now - GO GIRL

  • she is a great violinist! but i thought it was turkey in the staw

  • Whenever I play Arkansas Traveler in nursing homes, they all think its Turkey in the Straw. Actually, every fiddle tune they hear they think is Turkey in the Straw! Henry

  • i didn't know she plays for nursing homes, but the fact is she's an amazing violinist!

  • Nice playing but this is "Arkansas Traveler" and not "Turkey in the Straw".
