Having lived in many cities across North America, (Seattle, New York, LA, Chicago, Vancouver) I can say without a doubt Vancouver is the best by miles. People are incredibly friendly and welcoming of everyone. It is your own fault if you are antisocial and don't try to meet people.

As a resident of downtown westend since 1992 I will say it is the best city to live in. Be proud of this our city there are soooo many worse places on earth to live. I embrace Vancouver's growth and changes with awe. I still have 1100 acres to wander in and fabulous beaches downtown. Strutt your stuff Vancouver you've got the stuff to showcase the world. Sometimes it takes complete strangers in your town to make you realize you can be warm and inviting without getting bit...Chill relax reach out and enjoy the outcome...I think the best example in Vancouver is our transit drivers they are always friendly and greeting not always so in other cities. We are warming up, remember kicking the dog does not make him friendly....

Makes me nostalgic tho for when i lived there thru the early 70's b4 all the big skyscrapes took the place of all the old classic brownstones & b4 the MASS congestion that is now Vn, which, is fast becoming another soulless, heartless, crime ridden, over populated, far 2 costly place to live 4 all but the mega wealthy - a la NY. Vn area is gorgeous but, TOO much rain. BTW Vn is in the ring of fire. Earthquake, tsunami can wipe it out anytime. Sunny Okanagan is the place 2b!
