It's probably because you are used to seeing him in Doctor Who as the main character, and not as a baddie in one of the supporting roles. With the stuff on his face that he had, its hard to recognise him anyway, so its technically not dumb. David Tennant should be very used to regenerating now, from Mad-Eye Moody to Barty Crouch Jr, and through the different appearances of the Doctor. Repeating roles in different contexts!
