  • the important thing is the mass( form of prayer ) not the presider or on what congrgation hecame from.

  • I'm hoping to join them in a few years! God willing

  • Here

The CD with this chant you hear in the video is "Magnificat"

  • The miracle of the Mass is omnipresent but best when poor of spirit. (spritus mundi)

  • We're Roman Catholics not Traditionalist.

    Ave Maria!

  • Hi, where can i get a cd of the sister's chant/ God bless you!!!

  • if you are traditionalists why don't you have tonsure?

  • This is how the Holy Mass should be celebrated. Always and everywhere.

  • AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM!!

  • what is this song called?

  • does anyone know where I can get this song or what it is called?

    thank you!

  • I love the EF except for one thing, reception of Holy Eucharist under one species. I completely accept the fullness of communion under that form, but I agree with the Church that it is a "more full and complete sign" when reception is under both species. That is the only reason that I prefer attending OF masses.

  • @thecuddlemoose

I often hear this. But, understand one specie is both specie as they are co-mingled after imolation. Our desire for the feeling of satisfaction is a powerful obstacle to overcome. Surely, if one were to have some medical reason such as wheat gluten allergy arrangements could be made; alas, near-to-zero gluten matter is now readily available. I suppose it helps to remember that bread is common and wine is regal. In a way, it is not only the priest imbibing but Christ the King.

  • @tkdfan913 what a beautiful point about wine being regal and bread common. I always thought that recieving under one species was for practicality's sake and to prevent the Precious Blood from being spilt, but I think that point about Christ the King is very beautiful and a good thing to reflect upon!

  • Could you film the whole Mass and upload it in several parts?

  • Comment removed

  • Is it possible to have the recording? I would like very much to have it!

    Thank you for your time.

  • froggy's question about seeing the Ceebrants' feet in the video titled "Sandals and Fiddlebacks" calls attention to the fact that most friars today don't seem to wear sandals very often as was common even up to the 60's. They seem to hae become either sandals shy or sandal shirkers. I'm not sure if the sandals symbolized poverty or humility or both but the tradition has been conveniently lost or forgotten. it seems that unlike the laity, the clergy may abandon traditon they dislike with impunity

  • This video is beautiful. Music too.

Can anyone explain it to me why so many people(who prefer extraordinary form) think that the ordinary form is invalid? What creates their misconceptions in most?

  • That was simply stunning. Than you so much for sharing.

  • Dear Brothers, Pace e Bene, Is it possible to obtain a recording of this lovely music ?

  • What a wonderful liturgy and music!

    I´m really impressed.

    God bless all Franciscans!

  • I'm interested that the priest wears sandals when celebrating the extraordinary form of the Mass. This is definitely not a Franciscan tradition. Traditionally, the one time when it was obligatory for friars to wear shoes was while celebrating Mass (presumably because in the western tradition being barefoot at Mass was considered disrespectful). Indeed traditionally special slipper shoes would be kept in the sacristy for this purpose. Why not follow true tradition?

  • Froggy, perhaps this obscure piece of tradition was forgotten after 40 some years. Definitely mention it, but lets just be thankful for this beautiful Mass!

  • @Froggy64 Do we ever see the Celebrant's feet in this video?

  • @Froggy64, I think I disagree. Catholic encyclopedia: "the Friars Minor and the Capuchins wear the amice, instead of the biretta, over the head, and are accustomed to say Mass with their feet uncovered, save only by sandals."

  • @ivbj There are four possibilities. 1) By the time the Catholic Encyclopedia was written in 1909 or so the Capuchins had forgotten the tradition of the Order, 2) The Capuchins had ignored the tradition of the Order from the time of their inception in 1528, or 3) The Catholic encyclopedia got it wrong or 4) I am wrong.

I'll go and check the sources when next it is possible.

The beauty of the music is undeniable, the solemnity of the liturgy also; it is the claim to tradition that is debatable.

  • Beautiful, thank you for posting..

  • that music was beutiful

    so peaceful and relaxing

  • Beautiful camera work.

  • My favorite sort of music aside from classic.

  • Why don't you Franciscans have tonsures?

  • good job boys ;)

  • A magnificent video! Smells and Bells FTW!

  • Beautiful, both in ceremony and song. Thank you very much for sharing this.

  • Nice music! That's about all you can say for this obscurantist estheticism. This was only one stage in the evolution of the Western Rite -- and by no means a very historically aware one.

  • Bless you for this!! Pray for me as i enter seminary the end of this year. It will be at teh Fraternity of Saint Peter i pray. I am doing the aplication, as well as my friend Michael.

Pray for us and God Bless you

  • are you joining the Franciscans of the immaculate? I am thinking Capuchins Franciscans of the Renewal myslef and am traveing to New York (hopefully) this summer for a vocation visit.

  • Please pray for one of my friends who left for Semianary in Washington DC for your Brothers, the Fransiscan Friars of the Holy Land. His name is Kram (backwords).

  • Godspeed! We pray for our brother.

  • Wonderful. The Mass is beautiful in all its forms but Tradition is a wonderful thing. Pax et Bonum

  • Beautiful video. I love the music. Thank you.

  • Absolutely beautiful, and so uplifting. What liturgy should do.

  • Brothers and Sisters .... bravo!!! This is a magnificent video and the music is breathtaking. I am sharing this with all of my social network friends, and with my Franciscan parish family. Peace and all good!!

  • My lord and my god! you friars do gods work! Thank you for what you have done here and making me tear up at my desk this morning from the power and awe of the divine sacrafice.

  • Ave Maria,

Are the priests ordained under the FSSP?

  • Ave Maria!

    Dear Ecuminator,

The priests in our order are not under the FSSP. We are a religious order of Pontifical Rite which means our Ordinary is our minister general, Fr. Stefano Manelli who is also our founder.

  • @franciscanfriars Is he the priest who narrated your vocation video you posted?

  • @franciscanfriars I heard his parents are up for beatification.

  • It's refreshing to see that there are still real, catholic monks out there.

  • Well, Franciscans are not monks but friars.

  • They are friars, not monks.

And your rejection of the ordinary form of the Roman Rite is by no means "really Catholic".

  • Ave Maria!

I just want to set the record straight, that we do not reject the ordinary form. In fact, we say both forms and at the majority of our friaries we say the ordinary form (OF) more often than the extraordinary form (EF). We subscribe to the idea that the "Old Rite" and "New Rite" are to forms of the same right as the terms OF and EF would suggest. We stress the continuity between the two forms and celebrate both with equal reverence.

  • Pardon me, it was not my intention to imply that you were against the OF. I admire your ministry a lot. My comment was directed to Eskadron22 who as other "Traditional Catholics" have been speaking very badly about Vatican II and the OF.

  • Ave Maria!

Thanks, BlackCappa! I thought that might be the case. We just need to make our position clear once in a while. Thanks for your words of encouragement.

    God Bless!

  • I thank you for your edifying ministry.

    Per Mariam ad Iesum

    God bless

  • @franciscanfriars Totally unrelated, but could you explain why you wear your hoods when you are praying? I think it is really cool, and I have a feeling that there is more to the style than just that :).

  • pardon my ignorance, but what exactly would you say is the modern difference between friar and monk? nevermind that friar is an appropriate title for a brother of any order(and priests for that matter now that i think about it), well atleast in the Middle Ages

  • The difference between friars and monks lies in that the work of the firsts takes place in communites "outside" , while the monks carry a mostly cloistered life.

  • the song is beautiful

  • A great presentation of the Tridentine liturgy. Deo Gratias!

  • nice video lads. is this tridentine liturgy ?

  • Ave Maria!

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, it is tridentine.

  • This is a beautiful chapel. Where is it located at?

  • 199 Colonel Brown Rd

    Griswold, CT. 06351

  • Are there no Franciscans of your order in Germany?

  • The now "traditional" fiddle back or Roman chasuble has a most non-traditional origin. In the late Middle Ages, Gothic chasubles worn by high ranking clergy became so heavy with ornamentation that priest had difficulty moving in them The solution? Instead of simplifying, the sides were cut away, which also allowed that which had been hidden beneath to be more highly ornamented as well. Beautiful? Yes. Traditional? yes, but not always so.

St. Ignatius Loyola - ora pro nobis!

  • RESTORATION...That is the key word for our Holy Church, for it to recover the standing it had in the world... AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM!!

  • @xipe02 AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM.... LUX IN DOMINO.

  • Is that what Jesus instructed us to do? Create a church with standing in the world? --Brbuzz

  • @kdbuzzworm I encourage you to look into the theology of the Mass and the beauty of the Tridintine Mass (Extrodinary Form of the Latin Mass). It is rather interesting and lots of fun. If you need any help, send me a message. God bless!

  • Ave Maria,

Please pray for these wonderful and very poor Friars, they live a life of consecration and sacrifice. Bless You!

    Ave Maria!

  • Beautiful!

  • Can you post this whole Mass.

Sorry, we didn't film the whole Mass. Maybe we can film an entire Mass in the future and post it - not on YouTube as there is a 10min limit!

  • Thank you anyway!

  • Ave Maria!

You can post the whole Mass in parts...

  • You could post the entire mass in sections, I'd take my time to watch it.

  • Wonderful video, thanks for posting it!

  • Very beautiful. Can anyone tell me what piece of music this is?

  • +AMDG+

Sorry to burden you with so many questions. I assume that I can write to the address you gave. Can you tell me how much the CDs cost and if there is an e-mail address through which one can place an order? Thank you very much.

  • The information I gave you is all the information I have. You might be able to google the address and see if you can get an email address. Sorry. If you call, there is a chance that someone there might speak English.

  • Just lovely!

  • first i want to learnt latin...second i hope most masses where conducted in latin...but english is good to let ppl understand...it just sounds nicer in latin...

  • A number of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal priests are studying the TLM as well...soon...fiddlebacks and sandals will be everywhere...

  • Ave Maria!!! One day I hope to become a priest! This video is very inspiring for vocations! Expecially the music! This chant rocks! PAX and Dominu vobiscum (Spelt dominu wrong im sure)

  • Ave Maria!

Friar Didacus filmed (with two cameras at once), and edited it.

    Ave Maria!

  • Ave Maria! This was wonderfully done. A fantastic way to Glorify our Lord. Thank you for this. -Emanuel

  • O_o absolutely impressive. Those Franciscans know perfectly that humility is for one's life, but when it comes to Praise the Lord, all that we might do is not for our own vain glory, but to the adoration of Jesus, Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam, as St. Ignatius pointed out :)

  • Can anybody tell me what's the music's title whe here in background?

  • excellent...will be great for my Blog..

    PAX.

do you all have a general Vocations promo video?

  • Funny thing you should ask that! Our Vocations Video is the next project the brothers are working on. Stay tuned.

  • How can anyone say the church is empty when there is no view of the nave?

  • Beautiful Mass!

  • How can anyone say the church is empty when there is no proper view of the nave?

  • Hey SpectralAnimal,

When was the last time you were in a Catholic Church? Don't you know all Catholics sit in the back?

  • The most amazing thing in it, was the empty church - there was no one there except for the priests. This clearly shows what this kind of mass is - a hobby of people that like the past.

  • It's their community's church. It's probably "overbuilt" in terms of its capacity to hold people, just so they can have the occasional larger-capacity Mass. It's more than a "hobby." It's the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!!

  • On Long Island, there are two main groups of Latin Mass goers: the elderly who remember it and large young families many of whom are new to the Extraordinary Form, but are swiftly learning traditional hymns and how to serve at the intricate High Mass.

The Four Masses in my diocese are at capacity and will soon be expanding.

    AVE MARIA!

  • Like mlbalan74 said, it is the community's church. Secondly, like Dunsapie said, you have no proper view of the nave, so how do you even know that the church is empty? Thirdly, I have a deep fondness for the Extraordinary form, and this does not mean I like the past. The EF of the Mass is changing, just like the OF. More and more young people are becoming attracted to tradition and beauty. The 60s are over. Sorry. Pax Christi.

  • @SpectralAnimal The video only showed the celebrant how can you possibly tell that the church is empty??? more and more people are attending the EF of the Mass you're sadly mistaking

  • That was beautiful and amazing! I don't think the Church had between concerned enough about a worthy Mass being offered since the spirit of Vatican 2 was left unchecked, but this Pope has brought us the total freedom to do it again! I understand y the last pope held back. The 60s was a test God allowed, which the SSPX and others failed, but so did the good clergy. Now,Popes/bishops should also apologize for liturgical abuse & naughty Catholic U.s, which scandalized more than the sex kind.

  • AMazing thank you very sacred and moving

  • Incredible. The way Mass is supposed to be =] Thanks for posting.

  • What is the name of the chant? It is very beautiful. Awesome video and praise Benedict XVI! May he live for many years to come!!

  • Thank you Pope Benedict!

  • Fantastic!

  • Beautiful. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • Holy God, we praise thy Sacred Name!

God bless these poor little friars.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Meraviglioso: Dio benedica l'umanità intera.

  • You can't get any "Catholic-er" than that...

  • What Chant is this? It's wonderful! Beautiful!

BTW, are the FFI's encourageing the traditional Mass now? How often do their friars do it? Is it a regular thing?

  • beautiful

i didnt know about the fiddleback chasuble - "fiddleback" is (and I'm a post vat2 Catholic) 'fiddleback' is a edible fern (plant/vegetable)-

i do love the traditional latin mass and i am becoming more and more familiar with it

    THANK YOU
