  • Hmm.... The definition of block party seems to have changed a bit. Today, you're lucky to make it out of one without being riddled with bullets. lol

  • Must be Missoula, MT. A lot of hippies there. Bozeman has theirs, but Missoula takes it. Much better than most of the horrible shows on now.

  • penner got down on that guitar! he didnt even need to use the bitch clips like most people on tv use.. and he is playin a dope ass song! i could watch this now with no complaints!

  • SO GLAD HE IS ON WORLD VISION!

  • OMG this was the first show I watched as a 7-8 years old back in 1989 and I am seeing it after 22 years, it brings really nice memories, the theme of the show always sticks with you even after 23 years! Thanks for the upload!

  • I didn't have a care for cable because I could get it on UHF and VHF! I really miss this great show and it seriously should be on DVD so it can be watched back-to-back!

  • A show about a guy that has secret meetings in the woods with children.....

  • I loved this show!

  • i hope when I have kids, they have something at least half as good as this to watch on tv.

  • I'm 33 years old and Canadian. That's fucking awesome!!!

  • I grew up in Western Massachusetts, and I vaguely remembered this show. The only part that was vivid was when he crawled through the hollow log. I live in Southern California now, and whenever I asked if anyone remembered what show it was from they looked at me like I was crazy, haha. Thanks to Google and Youtube, I finally found it again!

  • @MetacomCreative

Yeah this show was broadcast in Atlantic Canada and Bangor area of Maine. I use to watch American Cartoons on those Bangor based networks.

  • He looks like James Cameron

  • always loved the juice-harp "boing" in the song

  • the 2 people who disliked this video were child molesters... they had to "dislike" by law. Fred Penner is a LEGEND!!!

  • I lived in Detroit and we'd also could pick up the CBC channel 9 from Ontario. I loved watching Mr Dressup, Under The Umbrella Tree, and Fred Penner's Place. Greatest kids shows ever. Thumbs up if you're an early 80's baby. lol

  • Omg.. @1:07 - 1:20 if you turn up the volume real loud and listen, you can hear whispering 'Fred Penner's place' being said behind the guy twanging on the juice harp

  • Comment removed

  • I used to wonder if he changed clothes in the log since he has a different outfit on when he comes out than he does when he goes in lol

  • Hodge Podge Lodge! GOODNESS ... that takes me back LOL

  • some1 give this guy a record Label ;P

  • This guy came over and hung out with us at Evolve Festival last weekend it was AWESOME! What a chill fella. A bit of an ironic twist we were all grown up and high on drugs hanging out with a childhood hero tho...

  • i wonder if his show is on dvd ?

  • @Bradjd56 I got so excited when I saw this show in the 5 dollar bin at Walmart, sadly though the dvd case was open and empty...I almost bought the case anyway.

  • I used to love this & the Elephant Show! Kids today don't have any idea what they're missing!

  • Incidentally... does anyone have some episodes of this show to upload ('cause I'm dying to see and them... even as a result of which I possibly haven't even seen the following episodes of the "Fred Penner's Place" Show yet)?

  • For the longest time, I've been trying to remember the name of this show. Glad I finally found it.

  • LOL, if this kind of stuff doesn't take you back man...

  • My brain just melted from all the subconscious memories as a young child in the mid to late 80's.

Can't believe it's 2011. Not exactly as I pictured it.

  • The only hippy I ever liked...

  • im looking for dvds of Fred Penner's Place. does any body know where i can find them

  • @CANADAWOLF26 i dont but if ever find out where pls let me know i would love to get my hands them as well

  • Fred's beard: Many know of it, few know of its power.

  • Fred Penner came to Kamloops BC today! YAY! GO FREDDY GO!!!

  • i like fred penner... he didnt act stupid.. and made u feel like u were actually there

  • OMGosh!! I finally found it! This has plagued me for years as I could never remember the name of the show. Of course, I was only 4 or so at the time, but I could still remember the beard, the guitar, and the endless walking in the intro...LOL! Love it!! This is priceless. =D

  • Fred Penner..The original Epic Beard Man~! What a nice man! He really contributed to Canadian society! I don't know anyone close to my age who doesn't remember him fondly. God Bless !

  • Besides Mr. Dressup, I loved Fed Penner as a child. I will never forget the joy he brought me from his songs. The only sad part is, I can remember when I was three or four and I had a dream the Fred Penner was on a barge in stream, and he was using a fishing rod to catch a naked guy by his penis. Yeah, fucked up. But can who can blame me? I basically just learned what a penis was at the time, and my young mind must of went off the deep end.

  • BLOCK PARTY!!! lol

  • Was that the Under The Umbrella Tree intro at the beginning?

  • Loved this show as a kid... never noticed they're actually saying "fred penner's place" in the intro.

  • @tzlive7 me neither!

  • This is the intro I was looking for! There's another version on youtube but this one is the one I remember. that sound

  • Growing up a little south of Buffalo we could get Canadian stations with the big 'ol roof antenna. I loved watching this show. When I got older I seriously thought I'd made it up since none of my friends knew what I was talking about!! So glad to find this so I can show them all I wasn't crazy!! I love Fred Penner!!!

  • @MrBeansMommy Yeah, growing up in northern Minnesota we got CBC too. I loved this show and Mr. Dressup. Trying to explain Mr. Dressup to people who haven't seen it is fun. They can't seem to get past his tickle trunk.

  • @MrBeansMommy: i went to college at a suny school, and my friends there had never heard of fred penner's place, polka dot door, under the umbrella tree, mr dressup, or the littlest hobo....such great shows to watch growing up in the late 80s....

  • Wow this takes me back, I loved this as a kid of the 80's and I still remember Hodge Podge Lodge to with the interchanging shapes and all. Nostalgia at its best.

  • I ahh.....I cant believe I liked this show when I was really young....wow.

  • this is one of the shows that inspired me to live my dreams in nature...what the hell happened, now i'm stuck in corporate...

  • What a hippy. I used to watch this all the time. i grew up in Detroit and we would get cananadian tv.

  • @444Wotan Me too! I loved this intro...But Mr. Dressup was the best...However I give Penner a close second...

  • Truly the best things in life are Canadian!

  • @colemananthonyandrew And Americans are arrogant?

  • One of my favorite shows as a kid. The order was this show, the elephant show, Mya My other Bee, The little bits, David The Gnome. This one was my most favorite of the block. I'll never forget the first time I heard the Cat came Back

  • Wow! This is awesome! I missed out on this because we didn't have cable when I was little

  • Looks like Pete Townsend on crack's place!

  • Fred Penner in a secret hollow in the forest singing David Bowie? Can we go back to this kind of TV?

  • Fred Penner's Place was so awesome! When I was a kid, I actually believed his secret tunnel led to this magical place in the Canadian woods somewhere! :-D

  • Fred penner was the shit back then.

  • Fred Penner & Mr.Dressup were the best

  • @JRussoBuffaloNY AGREED

  • Im 32 now, and still to this day wish I had a log to crawl thru and end up in a spot to kick it like Fred's.

  • fred penner is so asowme please dont make fun of him

  • Man, kids shows today really suck compared to some of the ones from the 80's! Love the didgeridoo in the intro.. doesn't exist in the older version.

  • I saw this guy at his live shows where he tours around--- he is truly talented and his show is still fun for adults!

  • he beats the crap outta rafi

    we group on freddie

our parents grew up on heehaw.

  • he beats the crap outta rafi

  • kinda reminds me of les stroud

  • damn straight

  • In reality if home adult male had some secret place in the woods, with a log access it would not be for singing sings and learning. It would be the special place where you stash the booze and pornos.

  • @GTBurns48215 LOL so true. I used to watch this, but only now can I see how creepy it would be to follow some guy through a log into his "special place".

  • Bad ass.

  • What a Badass! Fred Penner is a stud! I am now a guitar player thanks to that guy!!!!

  • I love how he incorporated hit songs for older folks like "Dancing in the Street" & got the kids into new kinds of music besides sugary pre-school songs.

    Great memories & show.

  • did he seriously just advocate dancing in the street to a bunch of kids... no wonder I turned out the way I did this was one of my favorite shows lol!

  • seeing him tomorrow!

  • Many, how do I remember that song and not the velour and purple outfits??

  • Fred Penner's Place f'n rules. Loved that log!

  • i've been looking for this forever. glad i founded it. brings back my childhood

  • Is that 1980's Pete Townshend? hahaha! I loved Fred Penner's place as a kid. Made me want to be a musician.

  • I used to think this guy was my dad on TV.. LOL! Ah, I love this guy; I would totally buy his DVDs! :D

  • @sirenamber I know what you mean. I always thought Cat Stevens was my dad's friend.

  • HOLY SHIT. THIS AIRED WHEN I WAS ONE AND A HALF, AND I REMEMBER IT. NEW EARLIEST MEMORY.

  • yes that one :D...1 elephant came out one day upon, a spiders web he played, he had such enormous fun, that another come to play. lol i remember some of the lyrics.

  • does any1 remember the show with the 2 guys and 2 ladies that use to sing skimery kah ding kah ding...skimery kah doo...i love you...i love you in the morning and in the afternoon... ??????

  • @fatlady57 The elephant show....right?

  • @fatlady57 Sharon Lois and Bram, later called the Elephant Show. And it was the Skin-a-ma-rink

  • @fatlady57 the elephant show

  • Fred Penner definately just did a concert with 3 other people at my bible camp 3 days ago! IT WAS AWESOME!

  • I sadly forgot who this guy was and assumed he was Raffi, but thankfully I've been set straight. This guy is sweet. Thanks Fred Penner, for enriching my three year old life!

  • I'm not sure if I'm asking too much here, but could you upload the Word Bird portion of the episode, if not other clips?

  • When he's going to the hideout, does he not look like he's on an acid trip?

  • I wish this was on DVD

  • LOVED this show as a kid

  • @malachais

    So did I...

They just don't give us things like the old stuff....

Mr Dressup... Mr Rogers... Fred Penner...

Old fashions is the best way to go

  • thanks so much for including some of the show on this!!

  • i watched an episode once, where this doll came from outer space and when it cried they saved his tears in a tic tac box, it was bizarre, but amazing!

  • i used to like this as a kid. good times, good times

  • Hodge Podge Lodge. I had completely forgotten about that until now. There's some wonderful about Fred singing Motown, I tell you.

  • Word Bird! lmao...Oh to be a kid again and watching CBC for not only just hockey. I bet kids contributed largely to CBC's tv ratings back when this, Mr. Dressup and Polka Dot Door was on

  • boing boing boing

  • Who's providing the funky bass line? A monkey hiding in the trees? Who's playing the organ? Squirrels?

  • I loved this show!! I knew every inch of that little clearing and I remember trying to find that log to get there. So frustrating!! :)

  • Man, I love that maroon velour track suit.

  • i remember seeing him crawl out that log every day in my childhood , lol i miss old TV

  • []+[] CANADIANS RULE []+[]

  • This was my absolute favorite show ever when I was little. I actually saw Fred Penner live when I was four (I think, maybe five). It was FANTASTIC!

  • That wooden framed backpack is so bad ass. He's like the Canadian Raffi.

  • ummm.... Raffi is Canadian, and in fact he Discovered Fred back in the 70s.

  • Man, this brings back memories. I used to watch this every day when I was little. :)

I think this guy's into the good patch. lol

  • I just saw Fred Penner live tonight! He's touring universities across Canada.

  • @NOBLESTABBINGS he's at my school as we speak, but i couldn't go :( *cries*

  • This is wonderful. I love Fred.

  • holy bag of fuck.........how do i remember this?

i was born in 1986 and im not Canadian>?!!?

    this just wrinkled my brain

  • because it was shown on Nickelodeon through the early 90s I believe

  • or you could've been by the border and watched it on CBC?

  • i was born in '86 too and i'm american. but this show was my favorite when i was little! I remember when I went to school and I was so sad because i would miss by buddy fred! haha!

  • If anyone could define Transcendentalism, it's Fred Penner. He lives in a hollow log, he has no luxuries other than his clothes and guitar, and he never has to worry about cleaning anything or maintaining. Sure, it's filmed in a studio, but the fact that he interacts so much with the outside makes him rival even Walden. This guy actually made me want to go outside and do new things when I was young.

  • @YokosukaPatrick Same here. I watched Fred Penner so much when I was a kid.

  • I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of this show... I LOVED it when I was little.... yes deff. beats the Wiggles hands down!

  • Fuck The Wiggles... Penner needs to make a comeback and put those wiggly bastards back in their place.

  • 1... 2... 3... WAKE UP JEFF!

Yeah, I have to agree with you there. My niece used to watch them. They drove me nuts, especially the Wiggle Bay movie they had. Fred Penner had it right. I learned a lot from this guy growing up. I wonder how many songs he's made so far...

  • @mohawkmeat

    damn straight

  • @mohawkmeat Fred Penner, the friendly giant, Mr. Dressup.

I feel bad for the kids of this generation, they don't know what they were missing.

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry, I meant...

Could someone please upload some episodes of "Fred Penner's Place"?

  • You can never forget that theme song!

  • that tunnel he crawls through, and the place he hangs out in, they've haunted my dreams for years, and it was always an awesome, secret hideout/clubhouse. The tunnel usually turnes into a slide in the dreams though. Awesome!

  • Fred came to my school today and gave a talk on the music industry and his show, played some songs too. He's awesome, hearing him doing his music brought me back to being a little kid watching this show again.

  • Did this happen to be a creativity course at the University of Manitoba?

  • Nope, it was at Fanshawe College in London ON, a presentation that he did for the Music Industry Arts program. Played "the Cat Came Back". Made my week.

  • Hodge Podge Lodge so I didn't make that up it was on TV before the shows on CBC when I was younger.

  • I like Fred Penner!and mr Dressup

  • I FINALLY found this show!!! OMG!!!

No wonder I can't remember it well, I was like 2 or 3 when I watched it! Wow!

  • Holy cow its been forever and a day since i watched this!!! i was like 4!

  • THIS song and open is the one I remember! This must have been the version they used here in America! :D

  • Yep, just found this. I cant believe I completely forgotten about this show. I used to love this.

  • My farm had a creek with walking logs but none to use as warp tunnels. The hay loft was crawl into-able although we had bird poop instead of guitars. Thanks for the adventures Fred!

  • The log crawl was as cool as or cooler than intergalactic, trans-dimensional space travel as far as I was concerned. Fred Penner had the raddest hangout spot I could possibly imagine when I was a kid.

  • Oh yeah, it was totally about crawling into that log, he could have eaten bananas the rest of the show and I would have watched it as a kid. It was a bonus that he happened to have a guitar on the other side of that log...

  • I totally remember the whole crawling through the log...

  • cont (relatively "new" things) out there because you can listen to and see things from all different time periods (all the way up to the vids being uploaded this mourning.) At 23, I've had opportunity to listen/to see things on here from my grandparents (WWII) generation and actually liked it. How sweet is that? Take and enjoy what you find from the present and the past that's good for you and leave the rest to rot. Pretty good motto I say.

Rock on with the jew harp too. This intro beats all.

  • Two huge paragraphs on Fred? Easy there, tiger.

  • to be fair it was three fours of one post. ha! ha!

  • Fred Penner always opened kids eyes to the fact that their was a whole world outside their own background and backyard, both big (refrencing Canadian and American cities) and small (holding caterpillars.) Kids today need more of this kind of thing for sure. I'm glad I grew up when I did and can revisit those years through youtube. We're losing too many kids to Wii's and Ipod's. I realize it's kind of hypocritical typing this on Youtube (haha), but Youtube is one of the only really "cool" thing

  • fred penner is the man, hes a pimp, i bet he got mad pussy up in that log
